Kellen was a fighter, but he wasn't doing well. The only thing really keeping him going was the fact that he had to see his son again, he just had to. Kieran needed him. He had no mother, and while he had the pack, Kellen knew his son well enough to know that Kieran needed him. He was all ready worried sick about his son, having felt the panic and despair from his son easily. They were connected more than an average son and father were, and Kellen knew that Kieran was special like Wendell had suggested. He just wanted to get back to his son more than anything else in the world. In between shifts, which were restless and he couldn't move, he just tried to sleep. He would ask about Kieran every day, though, obviously more worried about his son than himself.

At the moment he'd dozed off. He was grimey, dirty and disgusting, and he wanted a shower. He felt like he was sick with something because he wasn't getting enough food, and his body was literally stealing nutrients from itself. He looked haggerd, and broken as he laid on the little bed, curled up and completely silent. He was strong, and strong minded. He wouldn't speak to anyone but Quillan because Quillan was the one person he felt like he could convince to help him.

When Quillan picked him up, Kellen was a little surprised, but the other man was warm and he just leaned into him and held on. Kellen usually always ran hot, but the lack of food had left him feeling colder than usual. He pressed his face down against Quillan's shoulder and swallowed hard, keeping quiet until they were out and into the car. He leaned back and opened his eyes before he turned his head to look over at the other man.

"Rex will probably look for us in Coldwater, won't he? Seattle's big, it's probably best for now."

Quillan agreed. Rex would assume that Kellen would run for his pack. Kellen was right and Quillan set his sights on Seattle. Perhaps with the cash in his pockets, they coud get lost in the urban landscape. His adrenaline was kicking in and as he pulled out of the garage, he took one last look at his old life and then headed toward the unknown.

The drive wasn't so long, and Quillan found a small outoftheway hotel. He helped Kellen inside and set him on one of the beds before locking the door. It wasn't like a lock would keep Rex out, but it made Quillan feel better. He leaned against the door and tried to take some deep breaths.

Kellen had passed out during the ride, and he only came to when he felt himself being put down on the bed. He sat up, quiet noises of discomfort escaping him from the wounds Oliver and Harris had inflicted on him, and from the way his bones ached from malnutrition. He let out a few labored breaths as he settled against the headboard, and he gazed over at Quillan.

"I need... A bath, please? Can you help me?" he asked softly.

It was a perfectly logical request, but it made Quillan uncomfortable. He'd seen the man naked before doing various tasks, or observing Rex. But now they weren't hunter and captor anymore. They were on the run together.

"Of course," he said with a little hesitation as he stood up. "I'll--um--I'll go draw the bath." He stood up and disappeared into the little bathroom. The sound of water running filled the small hotel room. Not long after, Quillan came back out so that he could stand next to Kellen. "Do you want me to help you undress? Um--here would probably be best, then I can help you to the tub." He tried to be official about it.

Kellen could tell that Quillan felt a little uncomfortable, but really? He didn't care. He was filthy, and he desperately wanted to get himself cleaned up so that he could feel sane again.

"I'm sure I can manage," Kellen said as he scooted to the edge of the bed.

He had no shoes or socks on, so he didn't have to worry about that. The pants would probably be all right, but the shirt? That was going to be a problem. His limbs ached, especially his arms.

"I might need help with the shirt," he said quietly as he looked up at Quillan. "I'm sorry."

Quillan sighed. "Don't apologize. It's my fault you're like this." If he'd seen the truth sooner, then he could have set Kellen free before he'd gotten so bad. "I saw a Burger King on the way into the hotel. I can be there and back in a few minutes. After your bath, I'll go get some food." He was sure that would help Kellen recover more quickly.

His fingers worked on the buttons, and he only slipped up a couple of times, fumbling with the fabric before it fell away from Kellen's body. Dipping down to put his shoulder under Kellen's arm, he aided him to his feet and toward the bathroom. The water was nice and warm and Quillan had even prepared a washcloth with soap, lathered and waiting.

Kellen slipped out of his pants carefully, and he had on nothing underneath. Rex really hadn't bothered with anything like that, and why would he? Frankly, Kellen was surprised the man had even given him anything at all to wear.

It was difficult to stay sitting up while Quillan worked the shirt off of him, and once the man was helping him to the bathroom, Kellen was all ready exhausted. He wasn't use to feeling so... lethargic. He leaned against Quillan the whole way and he let the man help him ease into the tub. The hot water felt so good that Kellen's eyes welled up and he had to shove down the urge to cry.

"Is there a place you can stop and get clean clothes?" he asked, glancing up at Quillan tiredly. "I'm sorry if I'm asking for too much, I just..." He didn't know what else to say so he just lowered his gaze and swallowed hard. "You should get rid of your cell phone, he might be able to track with it. Break the sim card. Check the car for any sort of tracking device."

It just seemed the way Rex might roll. He was a very smart man.

Quillan had considered the tracking device in the car, but he had assured himself that he'd know if one was in there. But Kellen had a good point. He should check because obviously Rex didn't tell him everything. He offered a nod at Kellen's suggestions and resolved to follow them.

Kneeling down next to the tub, he saw that the man was struggling with something and Quillan swallowed hard. "I'm so sorry I did this to you. I should have seen these things without you having to point them out to me." He dipped the washcloth in the water and pressed it to Kellen's back, cleaning away some of the grime.

"It's not easy to understand what my kind is, and I can see why some would be afraid," Kellen said quietly as he closed his eyes and hugged his knees to his chest so that Quillan could clean him up. The water burned his wounds some, but they'd heal now that he'd be fed properly. "At least you see now. I'm very thankful for that, and I'm very grateful to you."

Quillan didn't feel right about accepting Kellen's gratitude, so he was quiet about it. At the moment, he was just doing his best to make up for what he'd done not only to Kellen, but to wolf-kind and mostly, his brother.

Tilting the man's head back, he scooped water over his hair and started to wash it gently. He'd bever given anyone a bath before, but it wasn't so difficult. Rinsing all of the soap away, he leaned back so Kellen could linger in the warm water for a bit. The man looked so much better without blood and grime on him.

The water was absolutely filthy, but it still felt good. He'd never been the type to grow a full beard, but the past weeks had brought a nice scruffy shadow on to his face. He was quiet as Quillan cleaned him up, and he could all ready tell that after he ate he was going to sleep for a while, but he would need to shift at some point. He wasn't going to bring that up just yet, though. He didn't want to do anything to push Quillan into an uncomfortable level just yet.

"You're not the first hunter who's changed their mind, you know," he said softly after a moment. "There was a hunter who was going to kill one of my pack mates, Emmett. But he ended up falling for Emmett instead, after spending time with him."

"Falling for him? Like--he fell in love with him?" That made Quillan raise his eyebrows. If Kellen had presented that story to him a week or two ago, Quillan would have shook his head and not believed him. But sitting there in the bathroom with him, Quillan could see how that other hunter had developed feelings for this Emmett person. If he was anything like Kellen, anyway.

After a few moments, he reached forward and pulled the plug from the tub so that all of the filth washed down the drain. It felt good to watch it sink away, as if some of Kellen's injury could go with it. Handing him a towel, Quillan waited to see if he needed help out of the tub. "Are you feeling any better?"

At Quillan's question about Jocelin and Emmett, he nodded his head a little bit and closed his eyes. Some of the pack was on the fence about Jocelin in a lot of ways, but not Kellen. He trusted Jocelin and felt that forgiveness was very important.

When the water started to drain, Kellen used the edges of the tub to get to his feet. He was slow, but he managed, and he took the offered towel to dry off with before he wrapped it around his waist. He started to step out of the tub, but his footing was a little shaky and he had to use Quillan's arm for support.

"I do feel better, thank you," he said softly. "I'm just really tired and sore and hungry."

Quillan's arm was sturdy and offered plenty of support as he started Kellen back toward the bed. He glanced at the clock and wondered if Rex had gotten back to the house yet and if he believed what was going on. He tried not to think about it too much though, for fear that somehow his thoughts would draw the man to them.

"I'll go get some clothes and food. You can borrow my sweats in the mean time, to stay warm." They would be rather large on him, but they would be better than nothing.

Quillan made sure Kellen was settled and then he left to dispose of the phone, check the car, and pick up the items the wolf needed. He wasn't gone very long, accomplishing all of his tasks with hurried efficiency. When he came back into the room, he had a bag from Burger King and a souvenir shop where he'd purchased a few University of Washington sweatshirts and pants.

Kellen tugged the sweats on and he curled up beneath the blankets and just passed out. He was so exhausted that he didn't even hear Quillan come in, something that was very rare for his kind unless they felt safe. Or maybe he really did feel save with Quillan. He slept for a few more hours before he rolled over, a quiet whimper escaping him and he opened his eyes to look over at the now ex hunter.

"How long was I asleep?" he asked, his voice a little gruff as he tried to sit up. He winced and laid back down with a heavy sigh as he rubbed at his face a little bit.

Quillan had been watching him, trying to imagine him as a terrible monster and just not being able to do so. When the man stirred though, he looked away, down at a newspaper he'd picked up downstairs in the lobby. When Kellen spoke, he looked up at him as if he'd been reading the paper the whole time.

"Um--a few hours since I got back. I didn't want to wake you up. We can nuke the hamburgers if you want them hot." There was a chinzy little microwave in the room which people probably used to heat up leftovers from the restaurants they ate at on vacation. But this was far from a vacation for either of them.

"All right," Kellen said as he pushed himself up to sit against the headboards. He swallowed hard and kept his eyes closed for a moment before he opened them and reached for the phone near the nightstand. "I need to call my pack, they need to know that I'm all right and what's going on," he added as he dialed the number to the mainhouse.

There was no telling who picked up, but it really didn't matter at this point. Kellen was sure he'd start to cry as soon as he heard a safe and familiar voice.

Jack was on his way out when the phone rang. No one knew the number but pack members, and hardly anyone ever called unless it was something important. The phone ringing in the main house was almost never anything good and Jack's heart skipped a beat as he reached for it to answer. "Hello?" His young voice was full of expectation, trepidation at what was going to come from the other end.

When Kellen heard Jack's voice he swallowed hard and closed his eyes. He lifted a hand to cover his face and held back the urge to burst into tears, because it wouldn't help. Still, his eyes welled up and he wet his lips before he cleared his throat.

"Jack, it's me, Kellen," he said after a moment. "I'm all right. A hunter captured me and took me to the men who had Robin, but someone helped me get away. You need to tell Hunter that there's a hunter who's focused on our pack, he's been watching you all I think. Is Kieran all right? Do Emmy and Ever have him?"

Quillan found it hard to listen in on the conversation and so he went to the bathroom to take a quick shower. He needed to wash the day off of him.

"Oh my god, Kellen!" Jack breathed with shock and awe in his voice. "Yes, Kieran is fine. As fine as can be expected. He's safe. Oh god, Kellen." He tried to steady his voice, but it wasn't going so well. He had the phone pressed to his ear as he went upstairs to find Hunter.

Knowing for certain that Kieran was safe took such a weight off of Kellen, and he choked back a quiet sob of relief. He brought his hand up to cover his eyes as he swallowed hard, and then he wet his lips.

"I can't stay on the phone for long, this is a long distance call. I'm at a hotel in Seattle. I'll probably come to the mainhouse tomorrow, I can't make it tonight. I need to rest," he explained quickly. "Just tell Hunter what I said, all right? And tell Kieran that I'm okay and I'll see him soon, and that I love him, okay?"

"He'll want to come after you tonight. Who are you with?" Jack knew Hunter well enough to know that the man would be anxious to get the other wolf back in his care immediately. Though he didn't realize the nuances of this situation. A hunter after them? That was preposterous. No hunter would be so stupid as to go after the Coldwater pack. "I'll tell him," he finally said, agreeing with Kellen's wishes. "And I'll tell Kieran."

"I'm fine, I'm with someone who helped me escape, and I'll be there tomorrow night I promise," Kellen said softly before he cleared his throat. "Kieran can't see me like this, I need a day to just... Recover a little bit," he added as he closed his eyes. "Thank you, Jack."

He hung-up before Jack asked any more questions and he curled up a little bit on the bed as he wiped at his eyes. At least he hadn't broken down crying. If Jack had put Kieran on the phone, it would have been the end of him.

Quillan felt a little better after the shower. He came back out in his boxers and went straight to the bag he'd packed. Once he'd found another pair of sweats, he put them on and went to sit on his own bed. Noticing that Kellen wasn't on the phone anymore, he looked over at him.

"Is your boy all right?" That was his main concern. He couldn't stand the thought that Kieran was in pain because of mistakes that he'd made.

Kellen rolled onto his back slowly and stretched his legs out, a little wince escaping him before he sat up a little more. He nodded his head and cleared his throat as he swept a hand through his hair.

"Jack says he's as fine as he can be, he's probably upset and hasn't been eating or sleeping enough but I'll fix that when I see him tomorrow," he said quietly. "I'm hungry, where's the food? I can warm it up, just... give me a minute."
