Andrew still wasn't quite adjusted to staying at the haven, but he was managing. He went back to Seattle for a weekend on his own and the house had just felt empty without Joshua. He was back in Cold Water by Friday night to stay at the haven with his boyfriend. It was so strange how Joshua had changed from something he'd bought, to someone he loved. Andrew was still struggling with not bossing the kid around. Now that Joshua was part of a pack, he had a much stronger back bone, and that was new as well.

It was nearing the evening when Andrew's car pulled up, an expensive 1967 navy blue Mustang. It was new, something he'd bought that morning when he was bored and alone. It was actually for Joshua, if the boy wanted it. At least for them to share, or something. Andrew knew that Joshua wouldn't straight out accept it if he tried to give it to him, but if Andrew said it was theirs, then Joshua would.

He headed up the steps and into the house, having learned that he was allowed to just walk in a long time ago, and was immediately hit with the smell of a home cooked meal. That was one thing he really did love about the haven. There was always so much good food. He headed for the kitchen first, to see if maybe Joshua was there.

I think I actually logged some of that scene. I'll look for it and post

It was attractive to Joshua that Andrew could afford to get bored and buy a new car. Not that he was a gold digger by any means. He frequently refused large gifts, but money was power and Joshua respected power. "For us?" he stood on his tiptoes to see over Andrew's shoulder to admire the car. "You mean I can drive it?" Just as soon as he learned how to drive. That would be one hell of a car to learn to drive.

"Yeah, our car, for us," Andrew said as he took a hold of Joshua's hand to lead him out onto the porch and down the steps so that they could go sit inside of the pretty blue mustang. "And yeah, of course you can drive it. I'll show you how to later, do you wanna sit in it?"

"Hell yeah, I do!" And Joshua took the driver's seat too, not waiting for Andrew to offer it to him. As Andrew had predicted, he was much more receptive when he thought the car was mostly Andrew's and he was just borrowing it. He slipped his hands along the steering wheel and grinned. He was going to be either a very good driver, or a very bad one. There was rarely any middle ground for Joshua.

When Andrew got in the car, he turned his head to look at him. The fact that he was back had put him in the best of moods, his eyes sparkling with pleasure. "I almost killed a magical fox thing and I met a dragon." To be honest, he still didn't care that much about his grandfather's companion, though he would have felt bad if the creature had actually died.

Andrew had expected Joshua to take the driver's seat, so he wasn't at all surprised. He slid into the passenger seat and settled comfortably, and he was about to explain to Joshua that he had to go away for a while to meet up with his father when the boy started talking about a magical fox and a dragon.

"Really?" he asked as he arched a brow in surprise. "Care to elaborate?" he added with a soft laugh.

It kind of sounded like he was on crack. Joshua fiddled with the radio buttons and everything else in the car as he started to think about how to explain. "Well, our grandfather showed up and he's a werewolf too. The boys don't know that he's our grandad and I don't want to tell them." That was the first part, and probably the most alarming part to Joshua.

"So I went to talk to him, Jason. He's got this friend that came with him and I was in their hotel room and Jason was out and all of a sudden this kid, Izzy, was just--he smelled so good that I couldn't stand it and I shifted and attacked him. I bit him and then Jason burst in and chased me off."

Andrew frowned a little bit. Hearing about some kid who apparently smelled so good that Joshua had been brought to a shift and lost control was not at all very comforting to Andrew, especially when he knew he had to leave to go see his father.

"Oh," he said quietly as he let his gaze shift towards he window. "How'd your Grandfather show up? I mean, was he looking for you or something?"

Joshua picked up on that sullen oh. "It turns out this guy is a kitsune. Hunter's friend Howell, some kind of fae dragon thing, accuses my grandfather of holding him captive. I asked Wendell about kitsunes later and the smell was a--just like this thing he uses to feed off of people. They eat sex. Isn't that fucked up?" It was purely chemical and he wanted Andrew to know that, especially since he still felt like crap over Logan.

"And yeah, Jason wants to take us with him when he leaves. He came here to get us. Says he heard that we'd been sold on the black market and he got here as soon as he could." Josh wrinkled his nose, clearly not intent on going. "I said no."

The word kistune sounded familiar, and when Joshua started to explain it Andrew felt a memory of his father explaining such a thing to him once. His brain was full of things like that, things he forgot that he'd learned about when he was young. Still, he didn't like the idea of one around Joshua, and he especially didn't like the idea of the boy's grandfather wanting to take him and the little ones away.

"How come he didn't come for you when you guys were being hurt by your mother and her boyfriends?" he asked as he turned his head to look over at Joshua. "Where was he then?"

Joshua nodded. "Exactly," he said with earnest. "I don't think he's a good man. Hunter said I can stay. The boys have a choice too, but I don't think there's any danger of them choosing some stranger. I hope he just leaves soon. He smells like my mother. The boys can't smell it, but I can and it--" he shook his head again. He was going to say that it scared him, but he didn't like admitting that, not even to Andrew.

Andrew could sense that bit of fear. He was so connected to Joshua that it was easy for him now, especially with his magical abilities. He reached out to gently touch the side of Joshua's face, and he frowned in worry.

"Why do you think he's not a good man?" he asked softly. "Hunter won't let him hurt you, or the boys. I won't either. And you won't."

Even if Joshua wouldn't admit it, he liked that Andrew could read him so well. He always loved the little prickle of magic that radiated from his lover.

"Because he bought that kitsune! He's a slave and just a thing to him! That's why he's bad..." It suddenly occurred to him that Andrew had purchased him and he stopped talking abruptly, mouth half open. But he was sure Jason didn't love Izzy. Well, maybe. The man had been pretty distressed when he thought Izzy was going to die. He licked his lips and let the silence well up between them before he talked. "I didn't mean it like that. You're not like him."

Hearing Joshua say that hurt, and he let his hand drop away to rest in his lap as hr went silent. Of course Joshua wasn't a thing to him anymore. But it hadn't always been that way, and Andrew still held a tremendous amount of guilt over it.

"You don't have to say that," he said quietly as he turned his head to stare out the window. "I know you hated me at first. It's okay. I was... Not a very good person to you at first."

"You're not like him," he repeated firmly. He refused to accept that Andrew could be like his grandfather in any way whatsoever. The man had all but admitted to knowing the depths of their mother's torment and had done nothing about it. Obviously he'd had the money to got and get them. He shook his head and squeezed the steering wheel.

It felt both good and awful to have Joshua defend him like that, and he swallowed hard as he held his breath. After a moment he turned his head to look in Joshua's direction, and he reached over to wrap an arm around the smaller boy's waist so that he could tug him over the console and onto his lap. He pushed his own seat back to make more room for the two of them, and he pressed a kiss to Joshua's mouth.

"What made him want to come and find you now?" he mumbled after a moment as one of his hands settled against the back of Joshua's head.

Noah as a human. Or Evan Lysacek or Johnny Weir...lol]

Joshua slipped easily over to Andrew's side of the car and curled up against the man. "I don't know. He just says he wants to give us a good life. But we have a good life here, so I guess he's shit out of luck."

He tried to wriggle closer to Andrew, so glad that he was here again. The amazing car sure didn't hurt either.

There was something off about the conversation. Not with Joshua, or with Andrew, but the topic of Jason was unnerving. For some reason, Andrew really didn't trust the man. Why now? After all of this time? Why didn't he try to give them a better life when they needed it?

"Do you think he'll try to take Julian and Jeremiah without your consent?" Or Hunter's, but he left that bit out, knowing Joshua was very protective of them and didn't like to admit that he had to share his brother's affection now. It was downright cute, how much he loved them.

The thought was horrifying, but Joshua had certainly considered it. Pressing his face against Andrew's chest, he didn't answer right away; he just listened to the man's heartbeat. Finally, he nodded. Yes, he thought that Jason would try to take the boys. "Not me because he couldn't get away with it and I'd be too much trouble, but Julie and Miah could be stolen away."

Even if Joshua was confident in Hunter's abilities to find and rescue them, he had the feeling that Jason had extensive resources, connections that would make him a formiddable opponent. "I want to know more about him. Do you think that maybe someone you know has heard of him?"

"I can tag them with a tracking spell, just in case something like that happens. It'd be easy to find them," Andrew offered quietly.

He closed his eyes and let out a soft sigh against the top of Joshua's head as his fingers drifted back and forth through his boyfriend's hair. It was strange to think of Joshua that way, but that was exactly what he'd become. It was a scary thought because Andrew knew Josh could end things now that everything between them was fair. And different.

"I can ask," he added, "I'm sure my Dad can find out some information on him."

Joshua had always had a difficult time feeling as if Andrew owned him. When he'd first been purchased, it was easy to hate him but it hadn't lasted very long. Part of his feelings had been encouraged by Andrew's magic, the times when he found himself wanting to be near the man, so much so that he was stirred from sleep and had to pad into his bedroom.

But Joshua was positive that every bit of the emotion he felt for Andrew was real, and he'd settled easily into thinking of him as his boyfriend rather than his master, even though nothing official had been said about ownership or lack thereof.

"Would you really? Yes, please put a tracking spell on them. It won't hurt them, will it? It won't mess with their wolves?"

Andrew very much wanted to bring the topic up, but he wasn't at all sure how to. He knew that before he left to see his father, though, that he needed to let Joshua know that he really wasn't a posession. It and Joshua was important to Andrew, more than anything else ever had been.

"No, they won't even know it's there," he said softly into Joshua's hair. "So, your grandfather... Since he's a wolf, is that why the boys were able to shift so early on?"

"Yes, I suppose so." He frowned thinking about it and felt the need to add. "And I guess I didn't go through anything so traumatic as falling into an ice cold river--so that's why I couldn't do it when I was little." It was clear how much Joshua hated the fact that he hadn't shifted until now. He loved his brothers dearly, obviously, but that would never quash his competitive spirit. At least he'd shifted first. If he hadn't, he didn't know what he would have done.

"Unless maybe my mother isn't my mother. Before Julian was born, I used to dream about that." That Jessica wasn't really a part of who he was.

"What made you dream about that?" Andrew asked quietly as he furrowed his brow a little bit and tipped his head back. "You three look so alike, I can't imagine you not being full blood related," he added while he rubbed his hand up and down along Joshua's back.

It was sad, to Andrew, for him to think of Joshua feeling that disconnected from his own mother. It was downright heartbreaking.

"Well, before Julian was born, I just hoped that there had been some mistake and my real mother would come and rescue me. Or that she'd come for both my father and me. But my dad loved her too much to leave her, I knew that even when I was small." After his brothers had been born though, he wished for no such thing for himself. He knew he had to stay and protect them and having them made it better.

"I wonder what it's like to have siblings like that," Andrew mumbled as he closed his eyes and let his fingers card through Joshua's hair. He hoped Joshua never cut his hair, he loved running his fingers through it. "I mean, I guess it was different for you because you knew from the beginning that you had to protect them. Other people, it takes them a long time to realize how much they love their siblings. At least that's what I've seen and heard, you know?"

"How come your parents didn't have more kids?" He paused and quirked a smile, looking up at Andrew with an impish expression on his face. "Were you too much of a handful? Did you turn them off to ever procreating again?" He could imagine that Andrew was a troublesome little boy and he liked that image very much.

Instead of staying at Andrew's side, he slipped his leg over to the other side of Andrew's waist and straddled him. "Can little sorcerers do magic? You were probably burning houses down by the time you were five."
