New Year's
The beginning of a New Year, a time for new hopes, new experiences to come. A time to reflect on times past, remembering fond memories happily and trying to put less pleasant thoughts and experiences in the past.

It is a time of renewal, a time of rebirth. And for much of the world, it is a time of celebration. This is no less true for the super hero set as anyone else. If anything, they just have that much bigger of things to look forward to.

Five hours before the Test

Damien Wilson sits in his study, drinking his seventh glass of Absinthe. The greenish liquid would kill an ordinary man in the quantity that he consumes it, and Damien would like little more right now than to be dead.

Living hurts too much.

He cannot show weakness in front of his subordinates, but the pain of losing his wife cuts him to the bone. Lian turned away from him for another man, a man who died on his orders. He would give anything to hear Lian's voice right now, to kiss her hips and read to her.

But that cannot happen, because she is a world away from him.

He continues to drink, preparing himself for the test tonight. Perhaps he will know for certain if he can be with his wife again. The future is currently uncertain, but soon, he will know what it is.

He cannot lose Lian forever or his life is no longer worth living.

While her brother tried his best to hide his feelings from the rest of the League, as Morgaine was his sister, she knew him better than anyone else. She knew that the act of being calm, cool, and collected was just something that Damien used to mask how he was truly feeling. Which was an absolute mess.

While Morgaine never really cared for his wife, she debated several times going to Star City herself, knocking Lian out, tying and gagging her, and just depositing her on Damien's bed.

She stood there in the corner, silently. She would never admit to it, but seeing him in so much pain was killing him.

"The machine is almost ready, Damien," she said. "The boy is nearly prepared."

At the sound of her voice, Damien puts down his drink and the demeanor of the Demon's Head slides into place over his fracture heart.

"Thank you, Morgaine." he says, his voice hoarse from non-use.

"The test will go well and things will be as they are meant to. I would appreciate it if you were there with me. I require another observer to give me their take on matters.

Translation: I need my sister to stand next to me and keep me from falling apart.

"Will you be there?" he asks.

	"Thank you, Morgaine. I will be along shortly." Damien says, dismissing her. Before she can leave, however, Damien speaks again. "Morgaine. I resolved for the coming year to tell you how I feel about you." he says. "I love you very much, little sister. Never, ever forget that." Damien smiles. (Reply to this)(Parent)
