Settling In
The displaced Avengers had been taken back to the JLA headquarters and had been shown to quarters. Svalin may have stared at Jon a bit on the way back, but she looked away every time he looked at her or Vernique looked at both of them. There may have been some red on her cheeks when someone caught her looking at Jon.

Jon was familiar in a way, but Svalin couldn't place from where. It tickled at the back of her mind and would drive her crazy until she figured it out. For now she focused on what needed to be done.

Svalin dropped her belongings on the bed and pulled out her whet stone. She sat on the bed and started sharpening the edge of her sword. There was some time before they were to meet and discuss what was going to come next.

"Don't have Metropolis? Weird. What about Gotham, or New York? Los Angeles? Star City? Anyway, come to the teleporters, we can set down within a block of the place."

"Nay. No Metropolis, Gotham or Star City. We doth have New York and Los Angeles. The Avengers art in New York and mine former team the Defenders art in Los Angeles," Svalin said as she started to follow him. "Though I hath only been on Migard for a year and wast still learning its geography. Vernique wouldst know better than I."

"Yeah, I'm a New Yorker. I think Gotham might've been a made up placename in stories at home. And these work in reverse?" Vernique says of the teleporters when they get there. "So let me give it a try. You've got Washington, D.C.? London? Paris? Atlantis? What's the capital of Latveria?"

He nods, programming the teleporters to set them down in Metropolis, downtown, but on a rooftop so they won't immediately draw attention.

"Yeah, we can get most places that aren't teleporter screened. Uhm, yes, D.C. is the capital, London, England, Paris, France. The king of Atlantis was a member of my father's era of the Justice League. I've never heard of Latveria."

"I wouldst imagine not everything ist going to be the same. We know people who hop from dimension to dimension fixing things and they doth say there art many differences and many similarities." Svalin paused. She had to ask. "Ist there an Asgard?"

"Little place in the Balkans. Only makes the news because the monarch's a supervillain. Renamed the capital after himself, etc. Not important. Yeah, there's similarities and differences, all right."

"Yeah, Latveria sounds bad... as for Asgard, uhm... sort of. It was sealed off, because its experiencing Ragnarok over and over, eternally as far as anyone can tell. Some of our parents were trapped there for a while. I wouldn't go advertising the 'Thor and Sif', thing though. I know, from my dad's experiences, that its not the same in every dimension, but here, the gods aren't supposed to take too much of a direct hand in mortal affairs. Some of them try and skirt the rules - but most of the existing pantheons have a strict agreement."

Svalin frowned. Eternal Ragnarok. It was a most unpleasant thought. Ragnarok alone was a most unpleasant thought, but to experience it continuously was unthinkable.

"I wilt not hide who I am," she said firmly. "Would Svalin Sifdottir be acceptable?"

Eternal Ragnarok was indeed creepy, but Vernique was going to try not to think about it right now.

"Heh. A whole new group of superheroes can show up without any complaints or bigots, but goddesses have to be discreet. Interesting place you've got here." Vernique looks around. "So we're not far?"

"Bigots? Against super heroes? Why?"

He has trouble processing that. "I mean, in the 50's, there was the whole Un-American activities thing, but since the end of that era, people are usually just curious about new heroes. As ffor the gods... well, they made that agreement among themselves. Svalin Sifsdottir should be fine though. And no, we're not far... just up this street. The owner is another Smallville transplant, makes the best hot chocolate in the city, starts with dark godivas, not a mix."

"The Council of Godheads in our world hath only made an agreement not to seek worshipers among mortals, but the gods art allowed to move and act in Migard. Most doth not, but there art exceptions. Mine father, Ares, Heracles, his son Argo, Valkyrie, Pluto and a few others including me and mind siblings. We wert sent to learn about humanity, what it means to be a hero and some humility."

"Oh goodness. If the superhuman community had been bigger in our world during McCarthyism, things would have gotten bad. As it is, nowadays, well, in our particular traveling group, we're actually all either humans or immortals -- my parents were involved in experiments. Things got passed on. But at home, until a crowd knows for sure that you're not part of the evolutionary offshoot of humanity that's the scapegoat du jour, you're automatically suspect. Plus, some people are just against vigilantism, or don't like filling out insurance paperwork, or some other reason even the most fashionable heroes have to watch the crowd control a bit. But yeah, the gods do okay. And Mmmm, that sounds delicious."

"Hmm, yeah, we have significant groups of heroes dating back quite a ways. A few of the people active in the 1940's are still active, or semi-active. Mostly with the Justice Society. I can give you some history files if you want to be able to look up some of the details - might be easier than all these random divergences coming up in conversation. For the most part, though, most of the groups are in contact, and have at least some kind of official sanction."

"Files wouldst be nice to view," Svalin said. She was interested in the history, but also the abilities of these people. She would need to know as much as she could if she was going to fight alongside these people.

"Godiva ist an excellent chocolate," she said. Svalin had become quite the connoisseur of chocolate during her short stay on Migard.

"Of our heroes from the '40s, I can only think offhand of two who are semi-active now: Charlie's dad, and the ruler of our Atlantis. And yeah, reading might be nice. And oh goodness, sounds good."

Jon heads into the shop, apparently a regular, since the girl at the counter obviously recognizes him.

"Hey Kim, three of my usual."
"Extra marshmallows? Coacoa shavings?"
"Absolutely. Thanks."

Svalin smiled when she smelled the cooking food. Her stomach rumbled a bit, but she ignored it. This was about chocolate. Food could come later.

She slouched a little to make herself appear to be shorter than she was. Six foot five on a female drew attention no matter where they were outside of Asgard.

"The clothes art similar," she said to Vernique as she looked at the other people in the place. There were a few looks, but Svalin paid them no mind.

Vernique smiled. "Yeah. Speaking of clothes, that's a great jacket, by the bye, Jon. Don't you think so, Svalin."
Vernique has many reasons to encourage their keeping their eyes all over each other. Letting her sashay her way around the corner of the counter setup, idly looking around, is just one.

Admittedly, the others are pretty obvious.

That chocolate really does smell delicious. Too bad the plan works better if she starts before it comes.

Nothing changes in her expression, but inside, Vernique steels herself as she adjusts the position of her foot just a little and applies her extremely mild preternatural strength.

Snap! A Gabriella Rocha heel breaks against the floor.

Super hearing can work wonders. He's subtle with the super speed here, but still makes sure to catch her on hearing the snap.

"You ok?"

Svalin heard the snap as well. Asgardian hearing wasn't quite to Kryptonian levels, but it was better than mortal levels.

"What hath happened?" Svalin asked as she moved to Vernique's side.

"I'm fine, thanks." She appreciates the catching, don't get her wrong, but she has to resist the opportunity to hang on him. This one's not about her. "Just busted a heel."

"Firestorm's power is molecular conversion, he can fix it the way it was, if you bring the heel." he explains, then calls up to the satellite for her. "Won't cost anything. We can bring your hot chocolate up later."
