Death and Life, or, Henry's Healing Harem
Of course Black Hand would attack Coast City with his latest scheme for world-devastation when Dad and Carol were both out of the galaxy. Thankfully, he did have some backup -- his new Blue Lantern partner was pretty much the only thing keeping Henry alive right now.

Henry hopes that the Guardians can do something to help his arm. Black Hand managed to touch him, and his left arm feels like it's shriveling away, held in check only by his green charge. But it's not time to worry about saving his arm right now. He needs to take Black Hand down, and fast, before he kills any more people.

"Hey, Hand?" Henry snarls. Ava's been keeping him on the ropes for a bit while Henry catches his breath. Black Hand looks up at the Green Lantern. Henry's mind races to think up a pithy line he can deliver.

"Fuck off."

Oh, well. He'll be more pithy next time. He unleashes the full power of his green ring at Black Hand, knocking the zombie flat on his back. "Wrap him up, Ava," he tells his partner. "We need to get him to the Sciencells."

Henry wavers a moment... then collapses, the ring fighting to keep the infection from spreading up his arm. But something must be done, and quickly...

	"Seriously. She had some serious nerve coming up here and saying that." replies Avalon, who probably would have been fluffy by now if he had his wings out. "I was planning on it," he smiles, slapping his newfound friend on the back.

He won't admit it to Jai, but this evening has helped him do exactly what Jai wanted done. And he'll even follow up by making sure Josh told him the truth. He believes what Josh has told him... but it's not just his own safety he's assuring. But there should still be records of what he's told Henry tonight. Including whether or not he's visited his father.

"So... it's only fair, I've asked you about what happened with you. Anything you want to know about me? Anything at all?"

	Josh laughs when slapped and smiles. He laughs again at Avalon's question and shakes his head. "Well...how long have you been wearing the ring?" he asks. There's a pause before Josh speaks up again. "I don't suppose you know the Flash too? If you do...can I meet him sometime. I'd like to apologize for what my father did..." he trails off. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

"Let's see," Henry considers. "First of all, I got the ring late October. Kinda my Dad's birthday gift. Went through basic training in early November. But I kinda earned it a couple months before... I got my dad's ring when he was captured by Mongul, and I worked with some of my dad's friends kids to help get him back."

He thinks a moment. "And the Flash is one of my dad's best friends. I'm good friends with his two kids. They're both awesome." Even if I want to punch Jai in the face at the moment... "But I think a good hero will recognize that you didn't inherit his sins."

Then he turns to Avalon. "And I get that sense of awesome from being that kickass," he chuckles. He shakes his head. "Seriously... I just know my limits, and I don't let anyone try to tell me otherwise."

Josh listens closely and winces when Henry mentions his dad getting taken. "Glad you got him back," he says. "Must've been a great adventure even if it was sucky your dad got kidnapped," he says with a shrug.

The healer then lets out a deep breath. "Still, I'd like to apologize sometime. It's just one of those things I kinda feel like I have to do, ya know?" he asks.

He laughs again at Henry and Avalon interacting and smiles a bit wider. "You two make a really cool team."

"It... wasn't a great adventure," Henry admits. "I mean... I was adopted. My dad adopted me because he's a superhero. Saved me from a black market baby ring. He's my family. And I thought I'd lost him." He shrugs. "The ring was cool and all, but it wasn't worth risking my dad."

He glances to Avalon. "And I guess I lucked out. Avalon's awesome. He's great at picking up cues. I mean, we just met a couple weeks ago."

"Oh..." Josh trails off. He kicks himself a couple times for saying what he did but keeps quiet.

The healer takes a few moments to study Henry, both with his eyes and his metahuman sense. When he realizes he's doing it, Josh flushes and quickly looks away. Josh, you need to stop. No getting a crush on the guy you just met! You don't even know if he's into guys too! he thinks.

"Avalon is an awesome guy," he agrees. "Seriously? A couple weeks? Man you guys really are a great team to be working so well together already."

"Don't worry, man," Henry tells him, sensing Josh's mental floggings. "You didn't know. And like I said," he adds, clapping Avalon on the shoulder, "Avalon's awesome." He leads the guys into the store, looking at the various shirts, and starting to gather shirts that he thinks might look good on Josh and may be the right size. "Speaking of which... I've made up my mind. Ava's my partner, so I'm already sponsoring him into the Young JLA... but if everything you've told me is true, and I can confirm it, I'm going to sponsor you into the Young JLA."

And Jai can suck it.

It takes Josh's mind a few moments to register exactly what Henry tells him. When it does, he looks rather shocked.

"Me? In the...oh man...seriously?" he asks. "But what about the others? Won't the have a problem with the whole...ya know," he gestures vaguely. "I'm gonna have to get a costume," he says, shocked. "Oh man..." there's a pause.

"You can confirm it?" he asks, wondering if Henry's about to pull another ring trick.

"I mean, if you want to be. And it's not entirely up to me. But... look, we work with a son of Amazo, who duplicates the powers of the whole Secret Society of Supervillains. So really, it's not your heritage that matters, man." He taps Josh in the center of his chest. "That's what matters." He grins and flashes the ring. "Same reason I got this. Because I earned it, not because my dad earned it for me."

	"Y-yeah," Josh answers quickly. "I'd definitely like to give it my best shot. Being on a team like that...I could help so many people and learn how to do it even better," he says. "Be yourself, man," Henry shrugs. "That's all. I'll confirm what you told me about who raised you and all that, which is actually pretty standard, and... I mean, it won't all be easy. There might be some people who won't trust you, and you'll need to earn it -- like you've earned mine. And it probably wouldn't be a bad thing to learn some formal combat training. But I think you'd do well."

He hands Josh a pile of clothes and leads him to the changing area. "See what fits."

Josh nods. "I'm used to not easy. Used to not being trusted either. I mean...I don't exactly look like a doctor so when I go 'I'll heal ya' I don't expect immediate belief," he says reasonably. He can't help but smile when he learns he's earned Henry's trust but says nothing about it. He also doesn't bring up his martial arts training as he thinks it can be better.

The clothing handed to him causes Josh to blink several times. He didn't even notice Henry gather it all. "Sure thing," he says, heading into the changing area and blushing once again.

	Henry waits outside while Josh changes. "It doesn't actually pay anything," he sighs, "but it does cover room and board if you need it. And you'll be expected to finish high school, at least. Josh actually laughs a bit. "Dude. I don't care about money," he says as he changes. "Well unless you wanted me to stay somewhere else, room and board does sound good," he goes on. He doesn't think mooching off Henry and his dad extended periods of time would be a good idea. Especially not with Ava already there.

"Gotta go bad to school? Well I guess if I have to," he says as he steps out of the changing room. Jeans and a tight striped shirt. "Where though? I mean I really don't wanna go back to my home town school if I don't have to..." he trails off. "How do these look?" he asks, holding his arms out to the side.

"You can stay with me as long as you need to. We've got the room," Henry points out. I'll take it up with Dad later, when he gets back from wherever he is. He looks Josh over. He really is cute. "Lookin' good, man! You'll be fending them off, going around looking like that." He gives Josh a quick wink. "And school... wherever you end up. Coast City, or wherever. Heck, with access to the JLA transporters, you could go anywhere you wanted."

Josh's jaw drops a moment and he stares. "I...I do?" he asks, glancing to the mirror. He's about as red as he's going to get without suddenly bursting into flames.

"I dunno...it's been such a long time since anyone..." he trails off. His attention slowly turns to Henry and he just stares at the other teen. He wants to ask if Henry is one of those that wouldn't but finding his voice is a small problem.
