Return of Bruce Wayne
Bruce Wayne was back and feeling better than he ever had been.  His heart condition had gone completely and he looked younger.  There was a buzz going around the tabloids about his return from a vacation and his youthful appearance, but all of that was swept aside.  He had business to attend to with his company.  Tamara had done an excellent job with keeping the company in tact and on track, and she was given her well-earned gratitude from Bruce.

His home life was another story, and one that didn't need to be explained too in depth.  All that anybody needed to know was that he was back, and things were going to get much more intense for the Bat Family.

The Cave had been a mess and that didn't include the fire damage from the jet engine blast. Hiring people hadn't exactly been an option. Fortunately, Tamara had known exactly who could be called and the mess had been turned around pretty quickly, but it was small relief to Marissa. Her parents were still dead, her dog was dead, and the house was still painfully empty.

Everything was painfully empty. She had thrown herself into patrols, ignoring phone calls, emails, and the press. It was beat up criminals, empty a bottle from the liquor cabinet, then curl up for a few hours of oblivion. That she slept in Bruce's bed was the only concession she made to just how lonely she was.

She half-stumbled into the room like any other night, crawling into bed and attempting to hide in the blankets.

She might have noticed, however, that there was the sound of a door opening and closing down the hall. There was a familiar sound of dog paws tapping the flooring, but an unfamiliar walk accompanied it. Marissa had only know Bruce when he was walking with a cane, after all.

He stood in the open doorway and looked at the lump in the bed. Bruce was silent for a moment, almost mournful in his expression. He remembered some of what had happened. It must have been hard on everyone, to fight the people they loved and cared for like that.

"Marissa," he stated flatly, to get her attention.

The sound of Bruce's voice as enough to snap Marissa out of any semi-drunk haze she was in and the girl sat bolt upright in the bed, reaching for the baseball bat she'd started keeping with her.

"You aren't my dad. You don't get to kill me."

"Leave the bat alone, Marissa."

Ace jumped onto the end of the bed, visibly not dead and quite happy to see Marissa.

Marissa was about to swing when Ace licked her on the face, jumping up on her and snuffling the way he tended to do.

"...Ace?"

The bat was dropped immediately.

"Dad?"

"Yes, Marissa. I am your father."

"You're not dead."

Pause.

"Do you still hate me?"

"No," he replied. It was a multi-purpose answer. Truth was, he never hated Marissa. He was just hard on her. Bruce was just too old and stubborn to outright say it all the time.

"I didn't hate you, Marissa."

Marissa rubbed at her eyes a moment. She wasn't sure what to make about anything at the moment.

"Is...Mom back, too?"
