Family Reunion (open to Atlanteans)
Arthur walked through the ruins of Poseidonis. The jewel of Atlantis lay mostly in ruins and was now floating on the surface of the ocean. Her sister city of Tritonis was in ruins on the ocean floor. Arthur's kingdom was in ruins, but the people were alive. They would rebuild and Atlantis would flourish again. Arthur would spend the rest of his life making sure of that.

He looked around at the ruins of the city and the people moving about. Arthur already had the council on his back for a meeting, but he told them it could wait. He had to make sure his people were provided for first. A good majority of the newly resurrected citizens had been evacuated to Cerdia, but even Cerdia couldn't hold all of the citizens of Poseidonis. Personnel essential to rebuilding were here now and ready to get started.

Arthur looked over at Mera and smiled. No matter what happened they'd get through it together. His gaze wandered and fell on Ash. Arthur had heard she had assumed the throne and with Garth's help led the surviving people of Atlantis to safety in a remote area away from the two ruined cities. When word that the dead had been restored to life, Garth and Ash led the people back to Poseidonis and they had just arrived.

Mera. Garth. Dolphin. Cerdian. Ash. Just one person was missing from his family. Cait. Thoughts of his daughter added some weight to his shoulders. He had to find her and see if she had been brought back. He couldn't imagine having to go through the rest of his life without her in it.

Arthur was quiet while he and Garth surveyed the damage done to Poseidonis. There was a lot of damage, but it could all be rebuilt and it would be rebuilt. There were also other issues weighing on the King's mind.

"The council is already on my back about things," Arthur said to Garth as they walked. "One of those things is the succession."

Garth sighs.

"Can't they just let everyone be /happy/ for a few minutes before we go back to business as usual?" he complains.

Then he composes himself.

"I apologize. That was childish." Garth says.

"Well, it seems the rift between you and Caitria is healing, Arthur. Asherah acquitted herself well in your absence.

What do you plan to do?" he asks.

Arthur smiled a little. His thoughts were the same as Garth's. "There is no need to apologize, my friend. I had the same thoughts."

"We shall see how things go between my daughter and me now that she has returned. Yes, Ash did acquit herself well. I am proud of her."

Arthur rubbed his nose. "They want a clear succession and quite frankly I don't blame them. Caitria is my heir. There is no question about that, but there must be a definite heir after her. She is old enough to marry and produce an heir."

"You realize how /that/ is going to sound to her, don't you? She's not going to take it well." Garth says, rubbing the bridge of his own nose. The council gave him headaches.

"Things were so much easier when we could just punch a problem in the face until it stopped being a problem." Garth says, chuckling a bit.

"Although I'm sure there's no shortage of young men in Atlantis that would love to marry Cait and raise their standing...she's not likely to accept any of them. I'm surprised the council isn't pushing you to quietly dismiss Cait and make Asherah your heir.

Most of them consider her much easier to...get along with, so to speak." Garth says.

Read: Manipulate.

"I would love to punch all of them," Arthur admitted. "Politics my friend. Harder to deal with than bad guys. I hate picking my battles, but I need the council to work with me. I have plans for Atlantis and I need them to go along with them."

Arthur had wanted to bring Atlantis in more contact with the surface and now was the best time to do it. They had to rebuild and the technology to interface more with the surface could be incorporated while they rebuilt the two cities.

Arthur sighed. "Cait won't take this well at all." That was like saying that water was wet. He knew his daughter's temper well. "The council knows better than to even suggest that I set Cait aside in favor of Ash."

Arthur looked over at his daughter and that boy. "What about Cerdian? We spoke about this a long time ago when Cait was born."

Garth stiffens a little. He goes for the same defense that he used back then.

"My family is not royal blood, Arthur. The council would never allow it. Not to mention...Caitria is in love with someone else. As is my son." Garth says.

He doesn't know the details of what happened on the surface, but Garth knows that Cerdian has been more quiet and sullen since he returned to Atlantis, much as he was right after he finished his trials. Part of him wanted to lay everything at the feet of his recent turmoil, but Garth knew there was more to it.

More that had to do with a woman.

"I will do what you ask, Arthur, but...Caitria and Cerdian will never be a love match. They look upon each other as siblings." Garth says.

"Though...I suppose that would solve several of your current issues."

"The council will never accept a surface dweller for the husband of the princess," Arthur told him. "Garth, had Ash not been here, Atlantis would have followed you without hesitation. There will be no objections to Cerdian marrying Caitria."

"I know they think of each other as siblings, but they both have duties to their people and I believe they would carry out those duties."

Garth did /not/ like where this was going. Caitria would be angry and Cerdian would not be happy with him for bargaining away his future.

Dolphin would be overjoyed.

Everyone had to make sacrifices for the kingdom, especially those of the nobility. This was the way of things; Garth's personal views on the matter were of no concern.

"How and when do you wish to tell them?" he asks, simply looking out at the ruins of the city.

"I suggest you do so where items are either too heavy to lift or bolted down and not in the presence of Caitria's lover." Garth advises.

"In the middle of a desert?" Arthur half joked. His face visibly darkened at the mention of Caitria's lover. Arthur did not want to think his daughter was sleeping with That Boy. Or any boy for that matter.

"Soon," he said. "We should tell them soon."

Garth notes the look on Arthur's face and goes silent. He shouldn't have said that.

"The sooner the better. The longer you wait, the worse it will be.

Though...I suggest we allow them to have today." Garth says.

Arthur nodded. "Yes, they can have today. Tomorrow we will tell them."

Arthur looked at Cait. He would enjoy today and enjoy having his daughter not mad him. Tomorrow that would change.

Garth simply hoped his son would understand.

He would ask Dolphin to talk to him, too. They have always been close.
