It's not even Feburary yet
The show had gone down without a hitch and she had been left to her own devices. So she was taking in the sights and sounds of the city. The air was chilly due to it being December but not as cold as she was used to so she was happy with that.

She did though pick up on something that had her wandering down to an out of the way market district. She bought a coffee from a vender and took a seat. Then blinked as she noticed the same things playing out again and again. It was weird because some people were able to leave the area others though just couldn't. They would find themselves drawn back and repeat everything over and over again.

This is just weird she wonders what's causing it. Slowly she gets up and starts to navigate around looking for some kind of clue as to what is causing this weird loop.

Max moves the device around trying to get a signal. Whatever they were in, it was definitely making the readings screwy. Suddenly there's a very brief spike in the readings. Max moves the device back over. Again, a brief spike in the energy signature.

"There's something over that way."

She focuses and nods.

"You're right. I'm not sure what we're looking for exactly but it should be obvious," she mutters as she starts to move then realizes she's still holding onto his arm. She blinks then lets go.

"Sorry. I guess this whole-- Thing has me pretty distracted. Forgot I had a hold of your arm still."

He nods at her observation.

He doesn't realize it himself until she brings it up. "No problem..considering the situation." Max decides he's not going to think about that..really.

She slows down and wrinkles her nose because she can sort of feel what's causing the problem.

"I think.... I think I get what the issue is." She bites her lower lip. "Some kind of corrupted preservation spell? That's what's causing the time loop. It's like when data on your computer gets corrupted. Just one little change and.... well it changes the whole nature of what it should be doing."

She runs her finger along the edge of the runes carved into the ground. It was on the outside of a very small garden that looked pretty badly run down. "I just need to figure out how to pull this part safely so it doesn't keep bleeding over into everything else. By the looks of it, it may have duplicated itself in different spots over the whole strip. We'll need to pull them out one at a time or it'll keep replicating."

"Okay, I can understand that much."

He frowns. "Wait, it duplicated itself? How is that possible. I thought Rune magic required an actual person to make them?" Okay, so maybe he read the basic mechanics of some magic.

"They used the runes here to ground the spell in place." She points to the rune carefully. "See. It's like.... shoddy work. They forgot to double check their work before they laid the spell it. The runes were supposed to tie the spell in place. It didn't happen how they thought it would. They turned this into the main point for where the spell jumped off from though. What we need to do is mostly clean up work."

"Okay, I think I get what you're saying." He eyes the runes. "So we simply just remove these and things should go back to normal? We don't have to worry about..I don't know, mystic feedback while touching them?"

"Well... You don't have to worry as much I think." She's trying to be honest.

"I've never actually had something go wrong while pulling apart a spell." She gives him a curious glance. "Do you by any chance have some wire cutters on you or maybe a Swiss army knife?"

The symbolic cutting apart of what she needs to pull away to break the spell will help her out a great deal.

"You think?" Gee, perhaps I should have written a will before leaving the tower this morning.

He pulls out a pair of wire cutters. "Will this work?"

She huffs slightly. "If it's dangerous I'm probably the one facing the brunt of it. I don't want you to worry. We'll be fine."

That's what Zach would say right? "Just let me know if it hurts less once I start clipping."

She smiles at him. "And these are perfect thanks."

She reaches and tugs there's a distortion in the air as she pulls a thick looking golden wire out and stares before snipping away and letting it drop. It looks like she has to cute more wires away from something that can't quite be seen but she's being very careful. She just has to cut away enough for it to fall apart. And in a few minutes it does just fall apart and some of the head pounding pressure goes down.

"I didn't mean just for my sake..I mean I'm not that self-centered." He sighs. "Gotcha."

He smiles back a little, though he wasn't sure he entirely felt as at ease at he may have looked.

A certain level of pressure is removed. "You're definitely doing something right. Some pressure just lifted. Do you need to take a break?"

"I understand, really. Wouldn't want this to go wrong."

She rubs her head again and rocks back on her heels slightly. "We could go find the next one. I think I can do that one before I'll need a break."

She wasn't going to admit that her head was swimming despite the first area getting cleaned up. But he was offering to help so Mina thought it would be wise to accept.

"All right. I'll tell you were to cut. It's not obvious since we can't directly see the focal point. I'm just making the wires visible, pretty much."

Calling the parts of the spell wires works since that's how they've translated into the material world.

"Wires, okay. I can handle wires." He kneels down with the wire cutters. He sees one of "wires", focusing on the task at hand, he focuses on doing as Mina did earlier.

"Very good," she comments. "You're following the pattern pretty well. It's just a matter of cutting it until it falls apart. It's not the most tangled spell I've had to pull part."

"It's how I work with magic, I break spells down into their base components and yank them apart." She grins faintly.

"I've been told I'm a 'logic' mage because of how I do things." She's a little hesitant to admit she's just a student still. She knows they can do this though. They have no choice either way.

"But really something like this isn't how I spend most afternoons." She points so another spot where there are three cross-sectioning wires winding together.

"Really?" he asked, intrigued. He didn't take his eyes off his work, but he was interested. My grandfather spent years trying to apply logic to magic without ever really coming to a breakthrough. I toyed with the concept a little myself, but I don't have Grandpa's dogged stubbornness."

"The problem is magic is more than just..... energy. It moves. It's almost but not quite aware of some level." She licks her lower lip.

"I don't think I'll ever stop learning about it. Can't turn my back on it either.... in some ways you're lucky. If you wanted to you could ignore it. Someone like me? We can't. It finds us."

She sounds bitter about that. "You're doing really good. Almost finished here."

"An interesting point." He lifts up the wire of magic. He pauses a moment after disconnecting it. "I'm sorry your introduction to it wasn't your choice. I..I actually understand having something you didn't ask for placed upon you."

She hasn't really gotten to see the fun parts of magic just yet. But being a stage hand for a magician has been tons of fun.

"It's..." She trails off then picks at a wire to test the 'coding then tugs another. "Clip here. It'll pull the test of it apart."

Subject changes are good. She doesn't like thinking back to that horrid basement.

"I was thinking of directing Ms Craft towards them." She can't help the slight giggle as she feels more of the pressure going down.

"She once made a demon burst into tears and applogize, if what I heard is right. She's.... very nice, actually."
