Monitor duty (open)
Monitor duty was never really very much fun, but someone had to do it. And today, that someone was Annie. And as someone who'd just returned to the JLA from a little leave of absence, she naturally had a few monitor duty shifts to make up for. Unfortunately, unless there was a chance of impending doom, monitor duty was one of the most boring things in pretty much the entire world.

Annie twirled around in her chair, blowing a lose strand of hair out of her face. She really should've brought her Kindle Fire with her.

"Of course it was. I got in all my practice solving the Case of the Dust Bunnies at home."

"A host of critical cases, no doubt."

"Oh, of course. Those dust bunnies are tricky little things. I'm still convinced they were in cahoots with the lint balls."

He nods seriously. Or semi-seriously. Or something.

"I would never doubt a Dibny's nose."

"This nose is never wrong. Especially when it comes to mysteries." She grinned.

"That's one of those JLA-legendary truths you can just count on, up there with 'this is a job for Superman' and 'Batman isn't happy.'"

"'Batman isn't happy' isn't so much a legendary truth as it's an actual fact of life."

"There is that. As I recall, your dad used to do a great Batman impression. I don't think anyone else even wanted to try it."

"Dad's Batman impression is so great that even Batman does it."

That gets a wider grin. "He's gotten very good at it."

He nods in all mock-seriousness. "That's where he picked up all the detective skills, so it makes sense."

"It's really obvious. Batman gets all of his good tricks from my dad. Dad's just too nice to say anything about it." She nodded, holding back a fit of giggles.

"We can't have that - I wouldn't recognize you without a smile on your face. As for that... magic words, Miss Dibny, magic words. Unless you'd like a burger and milkshake first, then ice cream? My treat for an old friend."

"If I had a scowl on my face, someone might accidentally mistake me as Batman." She shuddered. "That's a scary thing to think of."
