So Always Have Faith in Me (Bendytimed)
When it was all over, some of the others had been a bit... dismissive. In the best possible sense. Like none of it mattered, since there was a bizarre magical anomaly. But Ruth couldn't think that. She couldn't pretend it hadn't been her. She'd been in there. Her words hadn't been made up of whole cloth by ... whatever that effect was. She couldn't disassociate from it.

All she could say was, "I'm so sorry."

He's quite happy to be close. And he has to admit, its oddly kind of nice to be teaching Ruth, and helping her with something he knows better than she does for once. The last thing its doing is going to his head, but putting what happened behind them is, oddly, that much easier relating to her like this instead of trying to mesh the Ruth he fought with with the girl he usually puts on a pedestal.

He's patient with all of this. There's a lot to learn, and he's had a whole season to pick it up - and so far, he's just glad she actually seems to be not minding relating over this. He really wasn't sure... and now kind of wishes he'd asked her sooner.

Well, this Ruth has at least one thing in common with standard pedastel-having Ruth; she's doing her best. Still, it's certainly a change of pace, and does kind of help in readjusting after everything.

Eventually, after a pause. "...the education major's a good choice, you know."

He's a bit surprised by the shift in topic, but looks at her sincerely. "You think so? I was... kind of thinking maybe I'd like coaching."

Ruth doesn't see it as a shift in subject. "Yeah," she says, smiling. "You will. You'll be good at it, too."

"You think so?" he replies, still having a little trouble believing it - but not doubting her either. "Because... well, there's a couple classes offered through the P.E. department. And if I stick with the program and keep grades, I could probably get references."

"Yes. This conversation is coaching in terms of the broad general principle, isn't it? And you're doing wonderfully. And that... soundsl ike a plan."

"Well, sure... but you know me. And you're really easy to teach. You always figure things out so fast. But... if you really think so. Maybe I can ask the QBs coach when we go in for our post-season meetings when school starts back up."

A pause. "Speaking of which, while I have my off-season workout schedule to work in still, plus a weekly meeting with the coach, and weight room time... we should still have some more time now that the season is over."

"I really do think so. And see, at some point, we'll get far enough in all this that I might actually understand how an exclusively quarterbacking coach can function." She smiled.

"And good. More time for, among other things, homework devoid of Os."

"Homework, and maybe burgers and milkshakes. Because I think its definitely been too long since we went on our favorite date. But homework too. Yes."

"Yeah," she says softly. "Way too long." And more kisses now.
