Well, You See, There's This Guy...
Dinadan's baking when it happens. Muffins this time, in bulk, since they're nice to have around for easy breakfasts, and they've only got a few left from the last batch in the the freezer. He's (naturally) had a few mishaps, but he's not expecting anyone to come by today, so it doesn't matter that he has flour in his hair.

He looks up from the half-filled muffin tin when he hears someone at the door, brows furrowing in confusion. See: not expecting guests today. But he heads for the door, in case it's a package delivery, or someone his dad forgot to mention was coming by, or someone in need of help or a cup of sugar or homework clarification, or to tell him that there'd been a horrible accident at the school and his dad was dead, or--

Dinadan peeks through the peephole to see who's on his stoop today.

Dinadan only hesitates briefly in the coffee preparation. There's a glorious moment where the frantically spinning wheels in his head finally gain some traction. It's a nice feeling, he wishes he could find out exactly what triggers it so he could do it more often instead of running around frantically like a chicken with its head cut off.

"Yes sir, I am," he answers. "And yes, I suppose I do. Everyone needs a hobby."

"Yeah.. I get that... My old man had baseball cards, my father-in-law had a collection of bear and walrus skulls from his hunts..." He finishes the muffin. "Good muffin."

He puts the plate down on the table and leans back in his chair, steepling his fingers. "So... I understand you're taking my princess to the jungle with you."

"Thank you." Dinadan presents him with a mug of coffee, made to spec, taking a sip from a mug of his own. "And yes sir, that's the plan. First though, we're going to make sure that we're not going to have any nasty surprises with the Atom belt, and get her comfortable with the technology in a controlled environment."

"Hmm." He takes the coffee, taking a long sip.

Then he drops the elephant in the room.

"And are you having sex with my little girl?"

There's a moment where Dinadan thinks his brain is going to skitter out of control again, but his mouth has formed the response almost before the worry can coalesce.

"Yes sir. Naturally, it's something that we discussed at length beforehand, and we are both very diligent about protection."

Guy grunts and finishes his coffee, slowly. Then he stands up and moves to stand toe to toe with Dinadan, looming over him. He uncrosses his arms, and puts one finger out, pushing it not gently but not roughly into his chest.

"You be good to my girl, Danny Palmer. You understand me?"

He takes a step back and sits down at the table again. "When you get back from your jungle trip, you and me are going fishing." He pauses again. "Can I get another muffin?"

Dinadan obligingly rocks back a little on his heels when Mr. Gardner pokes him, but doesn't otherwise blink or flinch.

"Yes sir, I understand," he answers. When Mr. Gardner sits back down again, he smiles an fetches another muffin.

"Fishing, got it. I'll let you know my schedule once it's solidified a bit more."

It might even be fun. He'd never gone fishing in a place where he wasn't mostly worrying about piranha.
