I Just Work Here (Meeting Meme, For Jon)
GK was up far too early. His apartment had been too quiet. It wasn't time to call Zoe about their trip plans this weekend, or go to his actual job. So he decided to put in some time alone at the other job. Sliver was in the Triangle, catching sight of a young lady in a dark corner whose brightest want at the moment was for what seemed about to happen to Not Happen.

And if GK thought about it too much, he'd get sick. Right over his sleek grey work clothes. So instead, he draws on a family story that had often managed to seem lighthearted against all odds.
"Gentlemen!" he calls to the two muggers -- Vipers, it looked like. Weird to see them preying at first light with just two of them -- as he hurries forward, the sword sliding out. "It would seem the lady desires to retain both her purse and her honor. You'll excuse me if I intrude?" Hey. He had the swordstick, the name, he should be able to pull off the line Mom told him about.

Trip.
Whack.
Parry

Unfortunately, the backup a couple of guys like this might be expected to be travelling with arrived while he was taking them down. The girl screamed as the guns were raised. He barely got her down as the shots started to ring out.

Zoe was at home, several blocks away. The police took forever to get to the Triangle even when they came.

He may have misjudged this one.

The bullets never get a chance to ricochet about the alley or hit passers by, instead, pinging off the chest of a newcomer who heard the calls.

He hovers over the scene, rather nonplussed about the muggers, glancing at the other hero.

"I'm sure you had this well in hand, but hope you don't mind an assist?"

Well, that was definitely handy. Also, as he looks up, handsome, but he wasn't going to think about that. And he probably shouldn't stare long. GK was getting used to meeting people, in this kind of work, who were going to have big, bright letters.

"Not at all, Superman," GK says pleasantly as he raises up with his weapons in each hand again. "I appreciate the professional courtesy. Now. Gentlemen. If your weapons, at least, could join your colleagues on the pavement before you do?"

The gangs of the Triangle, with its fairly low-key hero presence, were less happy to deal with Superman, particularly with a direct demonstration of the whole bulletproof thing, than deal an object lesson to one of the overreaching local vigilante duo. The guns hit the ground.

"Don't suppose I could persuade you to file a police report, Miss?" he whispered to their intended victim. But he wasn't too surprised by the 'Uh-uh.' Years he'd been working here, and they never wanted to.

When the typical approach fails, time to try the Super-family charm.

"Ma'am, while I understand the hesitation, if no one stands up to people like these, they have no reason to stop. The next victim could be your sister, or a friend, or anyone. If you could file a report, though, I'll talk to some people about arranging protection for coming forward... I might know some folks in politics and law enforcement."

And after a moment, to GK's surprise, the girl nods, and there are quick trips to the police station over on Union that aren't just Sliver lugging another bag of weapons to leave for them, and the bad guys might end up more than just 'foiled' and 'bruised' (without quite leaning all the way to 'shot cold' like the last time he and Zoe were helped by a surprise guest star, but that's another story he's not going to think about).
And he's looking at the guy a lot, still surprised at the save, and more at the convincing. Well, there's the S, and the Cape, and the extremely reassuring voice, and the fact that he is pretty darn handsome on top of-- GK stared too long, and flinched, eyes shutting.
He tries to hide it and get on with the job, but seriously... GK realizes that those are of course good things to want. He wants them, too. But normally they're wrapped up in complicated ways among so many desires... He's never been knocked in the face by a five-alarm dose of Justice and Peace before.

"Well," he says afterwards. "Um...Thanks. Glad you were on our side of... the continent" He knows what Zoe would probably say about it, but that's her business, not his. If this was a one-off bit of assistance, it's one more than they had. He extends a hand. "Sliver."

Jon smiles, extending a hand. There's a reason that Metropolis actually stays so bright and shiny compared to a lot of places, and it starts with a good example.

"Superman. And I'm just glad I was there to help." he replies, now that he's done what he can to make sure the girl has some protection - and this gang will be looked into further. Normally, he has too many things going to run standard patrols, especially outside his city, but he's always glad for the chance to help where he can.

"I'm sure you would have handled it fine though."

He smiles, although carefully not looking at him directly so much. "Appreciate the dignity save as well. I'd say I probably shouldn't have gone working without my partner, but then they might have kept it quiet too long, so I'm certainly not going to regret it."

"Maybe, maybe not... but there's a young woman giving a statement right now that's certainly grateful you were there."

"Thanks." A touch of prissy countertenor laughter. "You are way too good at this saying the right thing stuff. I try it, I just come across as naive. Which is, y'know, relatively true, but so it goes."

"I'm only good at it because I believe it. The people who say those kinds of things are naive tend to be the ones who don't entirely buy it."

"Yeah. You do. Cool," GK says, eyes still on their boots. "We don't meet a lot of you A-list types. Think the only JLA we've had out here was Kaotik, and that was an accident, however pleasant."

"Yeah. Unfortunately, there's a lot of world, and only so many of us to go around. I'm glad you guys are here. And Kaotik... yeah, that happens." he agrees, with a knowing smile.

"Oh, Definitely. A lot of stuff out there needing handling." He said it sincerely, though he felt a little disloyal. But hey, it wasn't like he was talking to Green Arrow. "And yeah, I'm sure it does. Please tell her I said hi; she's still got some of the best style I've ever seen."
