Crashed

I knew I shouldn’t have made that blind jump at Almerac.

Alerron Yat curses his fool luck and asks X’Hal to watch over him. The Black Sun mercenaries are still on his tail, all four ships worth of them, and he isn’t sure how long he’s been he’s been running from them. After the first twenty-four hours, time no longer held meaning. He knew he was tired of running, tired of being attacked. He prefers an honest fight to all of this space combat.

When the freighter he’s barely holding together emerges in a system called Sol, Alerron’s body feels odd to him. The pains and aches of the last two weeks immediately fade from memory, but he’s certain that it is the Trenelvi Pain-Mediation technique that has taken hold in him. His ribs stop aching, his ankle is no longer twitching so badly, and his head clears enough that he can concentrate on the images on the screen ahead of him.

He sees a red planet not far from him, and further away, a luminous jewel of cobalt, white and other colors. This system is strange for its colorful planets, but mostly for its sun, which is a golden yellow the likes of which he’s never seen in his life. The sun on Okara is orange, and there are stories of why that is, but no one tells them for fear of angering the Agents.

"Computer, what are the names of the planets before me?”

"Mars, the red planet, was once home to a race of powerful shape-shifters that are now extinct."

“And this other?” he asks.

"This planet is called Earth, known for its diverse humanoid population and its appeal to beings from all galaxies."

“That…is Earth?” Alerron breathes, scarcely daring to believe that the planet from Mother’s stories was before him. Surely X’Hal has brought him here to seek help in his quest to aid her. Father said that many of his allies among the Green Lantern Corps are from this planet. Mother’s greatest friends, family more even that her sister Kommand’r, come from this world.

“Computer, lay in a course for—“

Alerron is cut off as the ship lurches and his world spins, throwing him from the pilot’s chair, to the floor. He recovers quickly enough, failing to note that he doesn’t register any pain from the impact, nor the indentation he leaves in the hull of the ship. He scrambles back into the chair and tries to regain control of the ship, barely managing to do so before the next blast rock the ship and the red alarm lights flare to life.

“COMPUTER! GET ME TO EARTH WITH ALL DUE SPEED, NOW!” Alerron yells, activating the thrusters.

Minutes later, a ship breaks Earth’s atmosphere over Coast City, with the four black ships in hot pursuit. Two more blasts rock the ship and Alerron finds himself unable to control the descent or velocity of the ship as it speeds toward the ground on the outskirts of the city.

Alerron says a prayer to X’Hal as he counts the final moment of his life, and asks for forgiveness for failing his mother. He also asks X’Hal to watch over someone else, and prays that she has found happiness in her life.

Residents and visitors of Coast City will easily see this spectacle play out before the lead ship, a copper and bronze patchwork affair, slams into the ground outside the city at full speed, then explodes. The sound can be heard and felt for miles in every direction.

The three black ships close in to confirm the kill of the Tamarenean Prince.

Avalon is not so oblivious in his efforts that he doesn't quickly get an idea what is going on. The first stun shot should have felled him - but thanks to the healing properties of his ring, it simply makes him loose altitude and cease strengthening the dome he's put around the first ship.

"That was completely unnecessary!" he says to the captain as he turns on her, and shoots a blast of blue Hope straight at her - hopefully he can cure her of her Avarice and Rage with the soothing blue light. If he's lucky.

Syn dodges the first blast, and comes up again, looking for a better shot. She thinks the first blast should have taken him down, but it just goes to show that the Lanterns, no matter what color, are full of surprises.

She tries firing at him again, shooting and moving so as to take his attention away from the dome and keep it on her.

Avalon just grins as he goes to pursue the captain, confident that his dome will hold - after all the strength of Hope only breaks when Hope is lost.. and Avalon will not loose his Hope this day.

He dodges another shot, spiraling out of it like some sort of fighter pilot, before he then takes a sharp turn, arcing down to the ground, diving for her. If he can't shoot her, he'll just try to catch her.

Yes, come get me, Blue One. Let's see if your power goes beyond your ring.

She continues trying to stay ahead of Avalon, hoping to lure him close enough that she can physically attack him. Captain Syn is certain that she can bring him down if she can get her hands upon him.

Then again, Avalon isn't your normal Blue Lantern.

With the force of his Hope, he creates another dome, this time trapping the Captain and himself inside of it. It's big enough though that she has some space to maneuver and hide from him, he's not just trapping her like a rat. The fool.

"Captain, I suggest that you surrender before I'm forced to take you back to Oa in chains.." he says in a warning tone, his voice low and half growled. The Naltorian is quite angry, he's taken a stinging zap or two and his patience is wearing thin.

Captain Syn is a fan of the Dome Fight. Rigel-9 has them often, and she is the sole survivor of over fifty matches.

She does not speak, taking shots here and there as he speaks, hoping to use his naivete against him. He is a Lantern, and he must die.

She drops the gun and pulls free her shock-staff, readying herself for the moment he comes close enough. When he does, she'll swing at him, sending a few thousand volts of electricity at whatever shield he can manage. She will attack until he falls, or moves away from her.

He will tire, and when he does, she will take his ring, and his life.

Avalon lands with a flutter of feathers, not really afraid of her and her shock stick. After all, he's faced down worse - they all want to kill you inthe end, so if it wasn't one crazy space-pirate captain, it would be another insane something or other out for his blood.

He was rather used to it at this point.

Her shock-staff does hurt, but in the end it just causes him to become more resolute. He continues to attack, to try and get in close, though he does form a blue light construct to use for blocking. He he could only strike her once well with it... he might be able to cure her.

He certainly is no where near stopping, his hand to hand fighting proving to be perhaps more than what she expected. This was no wimpy Blue Lantern, but a warrior Blue.

Syn quickly realizes that she's over-matched! How could they be so powerful?!

Syn backs off, then drops her weapon and raises her hands.

"I surrender, Blue Lantern. You can no longer attack me once I have ended hostilities, correct?" she asks, kicking her weapon away.

"That's someone else." Avalon says with a rather smirking smile as he swings his staff.. and the blue light collides with her and then phases through her body.

The staff was never a weapon that could hurt Syn. The blue light of Hope though does help remove such things as Avarice.. the greed that comes with a bounty and her part in it. It also calms rage and fear.. and may even show her a bit of wisdom to help grow her Hope for a better day.

Ava's weapon burns away her rage, her hate, and her greed, but without such feelings driving her, Captain Aurra Syn is bereft of purpose. She falls to the floor, staring away into space, her eyes gone blue.

It's anyone's guess what she sees.
