Crashed

I knew I shouldn’t have made that blind jump at Almerac.

Alerron Yat curses his fool luck and asks X’Hal to watch over him. The Black Sun mercenaries are still on his tail, all four ships worth of them, and he isn’t sure how long he’s been he’s been running from them. After the first twenty-four hours, time no longer held meaning. He knew he was tired of running, tired of being attacked. He prefers an honest fight to all of this space combat.

When the freighter he’s barely holding together emerges in a system called Sol, Alerron’s body feels odd to him. The pains and aches of the last two weeks immediately fade from memory, but he’s certain that it is the Trenelvi Pain-Mediation technique that has taken hold in him. His ribs stop aching, his ankle is no longer twitching so badly, and his head clears enough that he can concentrate on the images on the screen ahead of him.

He sees a red planet not far from him, and further away, a luminous jewel of cobalt, white and other colors. This system is strange for its colorful planets, but mostly for its sun, which is a golden yellow the likes of which he’s never seen in his life. The sun on Okara is orange, and there are stories of why that is, but no one tells them for fear of angering the Agents.

"Computer, what are the names of the planets before me?”

"Mars, the red planet, was once home to a race of powerful shape-shifters that are now extinct."

“And this other?” he asks.

"This planet is called Earth, known for its diverse humanoid population and its appeal to beings from all galaxies."

“That…is Earth?” Alerron breathes, scarcely daring to believe that the planet from Mother’s stories was before him. Surely X’Hal has brought him here to seek help in his quest to aid her. Father said that many of his allies among the Green Lantern Corps are from this planet. Mother’s greatest friends, family more even that her sister Kommand’r, come from this world.

“Computer, lay in a course for—“

Alerron is cut off as the ship lurches and his world spins, throwing him from the pilot’s chair, to the floor. He recovers quickly enough, failing to note that he doesn’t register any pain from the impact, nor the indentation he leaves in the hull of the ship. He scrambles back into the chair and tries to regain control of the ship, barely managing to do so before the next blast rock the ship and the red alarm lights flare to life.

“COMPUTER! GET ME TO EARTH WITH ALL DUE SPEED, NOW!” Alerron yells, activating the thrusters.

Minutes later, a ship breaks Earth’s atmosphere over Coast City, with the four black ships in hot pursuit. Two more blasts rock the ship and Alerron finds himself unable to control the descent or velocity of the ship as it speeds toward the ground on the outskirts of the city.

Alerron says a prayer to X’Hal as he counts the final moment of his life, and asks for forgiveness for failing his mother. He also asks X’Hal to watch over someone else, and prays that she has found happiness in her life.

Residents and visitors of Coast City will easily see this spectacle play out before the lead ship, a copper and bronze patchwork affair, slams into the ground outside the city at full speed, then explodes. The sound can be heard and felt for miles in every direction.

The three black ships close in to confirm the kill of the Tamarenean Prince.

The soldier behind Captain Fett is not so lucky, and goes through the bulkhead, and back into the daylight of the crash site.

Katima hits the ground hard, vision blurring and eyes rolling back in her head before blackness takes over. The pain is extreme but she does not cry out. She saw him. She saw Alerron again. The memories are a warmth that washes away the pain. If this is death, she can die at peace.

But there is another warmth. Josh.

"Lesa nok be formorrow sek."

Her eyes open and she gasps for breath. It only takes a moment; Josh is that good, skilled, and he rouses her quickly.

"Thank you, my beloved friend."

On her feet in an instant, she wraps him in the same Indigo glow that encases her. If need, it will grant him flight. Alerron is a blur in her eyes as he attacks Fett but Katima hasn't time to marvel at him. She launches herself at another soldier, taking him on with feet and fists.

Lifeforce smiles and lets out a breath of relief as Katima gets back up. "I have no idea what you and the cute orange guy are saying," he murmurs.

He starts to ask a question when he gets the glow around him. The healer blinks and then winces at all the violence goes on. He stands there, watching Alerron closely. "Something is making him stronger..." he trails off. Before the healer can ponder what he sees and senses more, there's stun-blasts flying by him.

Lifeforce frowns and turns to the soldiers. "I would rather not hurt you guys but if you're gonna shoot at me..." he trails off, running and unleashing some of his martial arts training.

Captain Fett fires on Alerron, but the laser bolts bounce off him with no visible damage. He might as well be throwing pebbles at a ship.

Josh and Katima drop two more soliders, and two more rush into aid them. They will be easily dispatched by the pair, leaving Fett to the three of them.

Alerron grabs Fett's rifle and snatches it from him as though he were child. He snaps the weapon in half with brute strength (X'Hal is with him today), and glares at Fett with (literally) blazing eyes.

"Go back to Kommand'r, and tell her that the next set of mercenaries will be sent back one piece at a time, dog." the young man says, in Tamaranean.

With the help of Josh, the other soldier's are dispatched and Katima turns her attention to Fett and Alerron. She still recalls enough Tamaranean (so many long nights just talking with Alerron...) to know what he is saying. Fiercely determined (she'd probably be green if Henry were closer) she points her ring at Fett.

"Do as he says," she commands. "Or we will rend you limb from limb."

Lifeforce just sighs as he heals the injuries inflicted on the mercs. He leaves them unconscious but not injured. "Really..." he mutters. Walking over to join Katima and Alerron, the healer frowns.

"I may not understand the words but I get the tone. And I do hope you don't intend on following through..." he trails off. not taking his eyes off Fett.

Fett glares daggers at Alerron through the helmet, but nods.

"Fade, by one. Ship One." Fett says.

He vanishes, reappearing in Ship One.

Alerron turns to Katima, finally daring to look at her. Is she a dream? Is he dying and imagining all of this happened?

"Is this a Human?" he asks Katima, pointing at Josh.

With Fett vanished, Katima lowers her ring. Her attention turns to Alerron, blue eyes looking up and into his green ones wide and barely believing.

"I never thought I'd see you again my beloved..." A smile pulls at the corner of her lips, but it quickly turns into a bit of a chuckle as he points at Josh. "Yes. This is a Human."

She speaks to Alerron in Indigo, but looks kindly at Josh, translating to English for him.

"The Human is attractive, for a male." Alerron offers. He can appreciate beauty in all things, and offers Josh a smile and warm greeting that the other man probably can't understand.

"I missed you, too, Katima. I never believed in my wildest fever dreams that I'd see you here, of all places. We need to make sure that Fett gets out of here. Is the rest of your tribe here?" he asks.

Josh blinks and stares. "Uhh..." he trails off once he gets the translation. "I'm definitely missing something," he says, shaking his head. A gloved hand is offered to Alerron. "I'm Lifeforce," he introduces himself. "I need to heal some people..." he trails off, looking around with a sad expression.

"He is," she agrees. "And kind as well."

Compelled by his presence and the fact that he is alive, the Indigo embraces him.

"No, I am here alone. I am companion to a Blue Lantern and a Green Lantern. It...is a long story but I was tricked in coming here and it is my duty to stay as strange things keep happening. My friends, we will help you in any way we can. I personally am at your disposal and will attend to your needs. How...how are you here?"

her eyes turn to Lifeforce.

"Heal all you can, Josh. I will try to disperse the agony so your work goes better."

Josh smiles. "Thanks," he says. "And tell your friend to sit and rest. There is something happening to him and I'm not sure what but it's a big change and he shouldn't overexert himself until we know what is is," the healer advises.

Taking a deep breath, the healer begins to emit a bright white glow, starting to heal pirate and bystander alike as he nears them.

Alerron would tell them that he feels fine, better than, if he could understand them. As he can't, he simply waits for White Glow to finish his healing work.

"We must get them out of this ship. That would be best."
