Watch Repairs (open)
The cars drive by outside, the birds chirp, and inside twenty-four separate clocks tick in perfect unison. A small get away lair for Professor IQ back in the day, taken over by Clock King afterwards, and now in the possession of one "Scott Bartholomew West" or, as his real name was, Scott Bartholomew Rayner-West or Knight-Rayner-West, depending on the side of the family, and forever known as Highball to his grandmother.

Calling him Scott would be much easier. And in this era, money is everything. So Scott is ready not only for alerts from Scooter (downstairs in the lab, watching The Shawshank Redemption), but also for customers with broken time pieces.

Just another day at Western Time Watch Repairs.

Henry grins. "Yeah, there's a huge difference between ringed-flight and mechanical flight. But..." He pauses as the other thing Scott said registers. "Wait, what? What happened to the Corps?"

"No one really remembers. Too many Crisises in the future, one after another. The 23rd century was a big one, before the Starknghts formed. I think the Crisis in the Stars took out one of them, but no one remembers which one. The Greens are the only ones left by the 2600s, and there are only a dozen or two left in the universe. My mom and my sister are two of them, and that Yat guy runs the show. They said "Without the Blood of Maltus, the Lights shall fade for a million moons." That's how Mom always put it. Some big prophecy mumbo jumbo. The Starknights have been trying to work with others in space, setting up... not a Corps, but something to fill the void. My aunts and uncles are normally off doing that.” Scott looks at Henry.

“Sorry. I guess that's all a bit much to take in.”

Henry frowns. "I'll need everything you can get me on that period. Maybe we can change things -- help some of the other Corps survive. At least the blue, maybe the indigo and violet..."

He's not too happy with the idea of destiny. Frankly, Henry would rather write the future himself.

Scott nods. "For that... I'll need some Yttrium 113 to repair my Chronoporter. It'll take me a while, but once I can get back to the 26th century and get my gagdets, I can get more than a full report. Until then, we'll have to go off of the minor reports Scooter has."

Scooter flies over and hands a disk to Henry. "Dot pdf format of all of my Lantern history files. Sadly, I was a Flash Museum drone, so I won't be of too much help. And there will be minor temporal anomalies based on our inclusion in the past time stream." Scooter nods and hovers back over. Scott frowns.

"Sorry man. I didn't think about it... I mean... It's gotta be much harder for you to learn that than it was for me. For me it was the past. For you... it's a highly probable future..."

Henry purses his lips in thought. "It's only the highly probably future if I let it be," he replies. "But with what I can learn from you... that's just a heads-up warning of stuff coming our way."

He ponders. "Where can we find Yttrium 113?"

"Um... outside of a Large Hadron Collider, circa 2234 or later... nowhere in the natural world. Unless... I have some Yttrium 77 in the back... could your ring cause enough of a reaction to create the 113 isotope?"

"Probably," Henry replies. "I'd just need to know what to do to it."

"Scooter! Protocol NTAR-Y 113!" Scooter nods and flies off. He comes back with a Erlenmeyer flask filled with a wiry, silvery white metal.

"This is Yttrium 77. We need to bombard this with beta particles until we can make enough of this Yttrium 113. Roughly 7 grams. I can use this for a new Chronoporter circuit, then take myself back to the future and get you a history report. Assuming I don't miss but more than a day or two...

"Oh, and just a warning: once we hit 98, this baby's going to go crazy radioactive."

Henry uses the ring to refresh his memory on what exactly beta particles are, and aims his ring at the stuff.

"No problem. I can keep the radioactivity contained. You got something else to keep it in once it's made?"

"Scooter! Protocol RMP-Y 113!"

Scooter sighs. "I know sir. Already done. QTC Unit ready." Scooter carries over a small blue cube.

"Fantastic. I got a glider beam ready for the containment. And thank you Henry. I have a few other artificial isotopes I'd like if you wanna help me out afterwards." Scott puts on his beam gauntlets and aim them at the flask.

"Maybe," he admits. "Depends on how long this takes." Okay, so science generally bored the crap out of him in school, but this is heroing science. And he focuses his will into generating a tight beam of beta particles.

Focusing his effort, he does take the Green costume off Scott, returning his appearance to the clothes he had just been wearing.

Five minutes later, and the yttrium is transformed. Scott uses his Glider Beam to insert it into the blue cube, and Scooter flips the lid shut.

"Haha! Go Team!" Scott picks up the cube and his eyes start to glisten. "We can get back to the future with this... it'll take me a few weeks, but I'll gladly hand over the report to you. I don't want anything happening to that Avalon either. Seemed like a nice enough fellow."

Henry nods. "Not to him, or to his Corps," Henry nods. "Some of the other corps are crap, of course. The red, the orange, the yellow... or the black, the nastiest of them all... but there are some other good Corps out there, and keeping them around is important."

Scott nods. "Yeah. If we can keep the Corps going... Then maybe the Crises in the future will be easier to deal with. I mean, last time Mom came around to your time period, there was only one GL, and now there is a full Corps again. Maybe we can make sure the same can happen to the other Corps too. Or stop them from dissolving, of course, that'd be best..."

"Exactly," Henry notes. "Some sort of way for them to survive."

He considers. "So you came back to help out, and got stranded, huh?"

"That's about the size of it. And I left a lot of useful gadgets in the future. The Elixer Mixer, the Green Bean, the Baby Box, the Metal Manacles, my Dosquitos... Not to mention the MG Gun. I miss all o those."

"Very funny Mr. Jordan... But Lifeforce can't be everywhere at once. The Elixer Mixer was made for the express purpose of making the EMT's jobs easier. The Green Bean controls plant life in the immediate vicinity, the Metal Manacles are adjustable handcuffs for any sized wrist that use nanometallurgy to reconstitute their intermolecular bonds to stay in one piece through most struggling, not to mention the Dosquitos and their ability to drain data... and you're still thinking of adult situations, aren't you?" Scott just raises an eyebrow at Henry and sighs.

Scott looks down at his feet. "Elixer Mixer had another model. The Snake Oiler. Not quite as useful for healing, but... it did manage to get me a few bouts of fooling around in secondary school... I go back, I'll look about picking up that too. Makes deodorant a thing of the past."

Henry can't help it. After the topic of conversation, and now talking about "fooling around" with the "Snake Oiler"...

He doubles over laughing.

Scott joins in, giggling immensely. Scooter chuckles a bit too, and takes the Yttrium down to the storage bins in the lab.
