An Interesting Customer Today
Scott was sitting at his work bench, incredibly BORED. No work today, nothing cool since last night.  The half-finished Beetle Baton sat there, taunting him, but he'd rather not mess with it til Dinah came over again.

"Arg! A supervillain, a mugging, a television to repair! My kingdom for a broken Swiss timepiece!" Scott yelled to the ceiling and moaned. He couldn't do Facebook, since Scooter was already addicted to FarmVille, and there was nothing good on TV at 2 in the afternoon. So he sat and waited and tinkered with a small silver box like device with a lightning bolt design of copper wires on it.

Scott managed to take Hourgirl to the Brownstone. Well... She rode Scooter like a boogie board the whole time, and Scott had to think of a new option. He decided next time he saw her, he'd try to find the old Prototype flight suit in case she wasn't flight capable at the time.

The next morning, Scott was sitting at his bench, waiting for the girl with the watch to come back in. Scooter's audio recognition program had noticed something between the sounds from the comm system in Scott's ear and the voice of Hourgirl.

Scott had Hourgirl's watch in his hand. And he enjoyed knowing that. Now she just had to fill out the forms for the repair, and he would know. And knowing is half the battle.

In this case, the other half is a mix of team-ups and smoothies, apparently. Just saying.

Wendi opened the door and walked in.

"Hey," she said. "Glad to see this place is still here after yesterday."

Yes, keep it light. Don't let on that you know more than you do.

"Yep, that girl from the JSA and that Gold Sentinel fellow showed up and took care of the crazy green broad. I went over last night and helped Mr. Schmeindrick board up the window. Now, just a few orders of business." Scott slides back in his rolly chair and grabs a paper and pen off of the (not futuristic) workbench, and wheels back to the front desk.
"One, I need you to fill out this form of repair, verifying that I have your watch and it is fixed. Legal matter, Mrs. Leibowitz next door and Mrs. Nguyen down the street both have lawyers for sons, and after I fixed Mike Leibowitz's grandfather clock, he made me up these forms for folks to fill out. Name, phone number, e-mail, ways to reach you. In case things go south, you agree it wasn't my fault, and if you have future problems, I can always call you up with statuses on repairs."

Scott then grabbed a plain business card and placed it on the desk. "And that is so you can call me with any problems, or if you got friends who need repairs done. Now let's see here..."

Scott pulls out Wendi's watch and shows it to her. "Fixed and polished. Also, I threw in a thing Mrs. Bolarsky three doors down keeps giving me. Good for a free frozen yogurt at her shop."

"Oh, sure," Wendi said, as she got to filling out the paperwork. "No prob. But you get to see any of the fight?"

She picked up the card and then the watch. "You do good work," she said.

"Thank you. I'm afraid I only saw a bit at the end after I had my taser in hand. Saw the girl hero punch that green lady in the face, and Gold Sentinel got out of those vines. Too bad about him getting kicked in the face though."

Scott thanked himself he had some extra face putty to cover up the mark down his cheek from the kick from Captain Creeper. That still stung when he talked. The Elixer Mixer was great, but man did it make you sore as it healed you.

"Nah, you got to safety, and that's what's important. Now then, I put a new back on your watch. The old one was a flimsy plastic, no good. This new one is a new, tougher plastic. So if you get bumped into a wall, it shouldn't jiggle the stuff inside so badly. Keep it from busting up too badly."

Scott walks to the end of the desk and grabs a pocketwatch. "Too bad Mr. Schmeindrick's watch got busted after all that. Gotta fix it up for him." Scott pops his joints a bit and looks to Wendi. "Say, have you eaten lunch yet?"

"Thanks," Wendi said again, finishing up the paperwork.

Huh. That took her by surprise. But then again, sure. Why not?

"Haven't," she said.

Scott smiles and takes the paperwork. Wendi Tyler. Interesting. The subtle reveals are best, yes.

Scott hands her her watch and the repair slip. "Would you care to join me for lunch? Mr. Schmeindrick closed shop for the day, but there are plenty of other good places around here. Chinese, tapas, pizza, etc."

"Pizza, definitely." Scott looks around, opens the door for Wendi and locks the door behind them. A click of the mini-remote in his pocket tells Scooter he's heading out.

A few shops down is a little pizzaria, owned by one Mr. Barone. Scott waves and Mr. Barone nods at him. "What kind of pizza would you like, Miss Tyler?"

"Gotta go with classic pepperoni," Wendi told him. "Or sausage. Sausage is good to. As long as something died to make the topping."

Scott put on a big grin. "The taste of death it is. Mr. Barone! Can we get a medium Meat Lovers please!" The man in the kitchen nods and begins making the pizza. "I've got your DVD player fixed at my shop already. How about we take the pizza costs out of the repairs?" The man laughs and nods.

Scott walks to a nearby table. "Mr. Barone is a man of few words, but he makes a mean pizza."

"Only a month or two, but everyone on this street has been super friendly. I guess it's that this was a street where everyone showed up to raise their kids, but now for a lot of them their kids are grown up. Off to be lawyers and doctors and such. Mr. Barone here has a daughter in school to be a surgeon. It's just so amazing the dedication these folks, all of these families have." Scott smiles upon thinking about it.

"Well, when I moved in, I helped fix up the old watch shop, and they've just been super nice. Everyone has stories, skills, dreams, and it's just been really fun living here. Nothing at all like Central City. There everyone is moving too fast to keep track of. It's nice to be the fastest guy for a change, instead of always late." Scott is telling the truth. Sure, he is leaving out his brother being the Flash of the future, and that there are many more hover cars in his version of Central City, but still. It is a nice change of pace.

"My mom and dad were never really around to begin with. They had very demanding jobs. My dad is a forensic scientist, so every time there was a crime he'd run off, and my mom was a cop, so the same deal with her. It's how they met. And my older brothers were almost done with high school by the time I started Kindergarten. My big sister was off to... college by the time I was 12. I was used to being alone that when I hit 17, I just sort of left. I had finished secondary school early, so I was done by the time I was 15. I had already been doing college. I left, and I've talked to my dad since, but... I know exactly what Mom would say. 'Scott Bartholomew West, you come back home this INSTANT!' And my dad would argue I'm only half a year off of being an adult anyway, and I already finished most of my schooling. And Frank and Damon would point out I'm already taller than Dad and Sora would side with Mom because that's what she does, and say my school didn't count. Sure, it was technically a trade school, but I challenge you to find a better man at repairs."

Idiot. Rambling. Again. Shut up!

"So what about you? What's your family like?"

Nice save. Idiot.
Don't be so hard on yourself, sir.
Great. As if the real Scooter wasn't bad enough, I've internalized him! He's become part of my internal monologue! Must never let Goldstar know. Unless he's internalized Skeets...

Wendi's jaw dropped from both information overload and just everything involved in the story.

"Pretty impressive," she said.

"Me? My parents are pretty normal, I guess. My grandpa's the owner/founder of Tyler Pharma-Chemicals, and Dad works for the company too. My other Grandpa started Quickstart industries and Mom runs that. And in-between all of that they've managed to have me and my numerous brothers and sisters. They... kinda go at it like rabbits, really."

Scott doubles over laughing at that last bit. "Oh god... that's funny. Still, that is very impressive. I have been following Tyler Pharma-Chemicals in the news. Very impressive the things that they've managed to make." Scott takes a long swig of a soda that somehow appeared on the table. He then looks at the soda in shock.

Scott looks around. "Jimmy Barone, son of Mr. Manfred Barone. The soda ninja. Not only does he know what to bring, but you never see him do it to you. In the last two months, he has managed to bring me the right drink without me ordering or noticing thirteen times. Once, not even at this restaurant. He's that good."

Scott looks nervously and then in amazement. "You don't even carry this flavor of Mountain Dew in this restaurant! How do you do it, Soda Ninja? How?" Scott then hears Mr. Barone call for him at the counter, and Scott comes back with a pizza piled high with pepperoni, ham, bacon, sausage, ground beef, Canadian bacon, chicken, salami, garlic cloves, and Italian sausage. He places it on the table, next to the shakers of Parmesan and red pepper flakes, and takes a seat again. He pulls the paper plates out from under the tray and hands one to Wendi.

"This meaty enough for you?"

My thoughts exactly. Scott thought, taking a gooey, meaty, cheesy, garlicky slice of the pizza and placing it on his plate.

"Prepare thyself, Wendi. This has to be the most radical pizza you will ever eat. Though I will admit, the White Chicken Pizza here isn't too bad either."

Scott sits and watches. "You first. I have to see your reaction."

"Mmmmmm!"

She wiped some sauce off the corner of her mouth with her napkin. "This is... the best pizza... ever!"

Scott grins and grabs the garlic sauce bottle for his.

The garlic sauce that wasn't there a second ago.

"The Soda Ninja has advanced to condiments! I swear, the guy must be related to the Flash or something."

Then again, I know that can easily mean nothing...

Scott places a bit of garlic sauce on his plate and dips the tip of his pizza into it and eats it. "What the... How did he make it BETTER since last time? Man I love this place!"

"I'd like that." Scott says. Another bite of his pizza and he wipes his mouth from the explosion of sauce. "Well. That didn't go as smoothly as I planned... Tasty though."
