Admission of Guilt (Open to Avia, Barda and Scott)
An hour after Hope's abduction, Rex asks Avia to call her parents and tell them he needs to speak to them immediately at the Brownstone.

Rather than hunt them down, he'll let the people with Boom Tubes come to him for ease of travel...and because most people would rather die someplace familiar than elsewhere.

"In truth, my son, your wife has the right of it. This is against my normal way of handling criminals and those who speak against me. However, I have decided to make a change this day." Darkseid's voice booms from the speakers inside the cell block.

Several Boom Tubes open then, hundreds of hardened criminals pouring into the cell block to surround the Free Family and Rex.

"A full day's food and water for the one who brings me the Thanagarian's wings. He is expendable. Bring me a member of the Free Family and you /shall/ be free." Darkseid says.

"And to add some sport to things..."

A piercing wail erupts from Avia's Mother Box as the frequency is jammed.

Scott Free is, at his core, a remarkably peaceful man. The cool yin to raging Orion's yang. But he is also a father. And his daughter has been taken from him by one of the few people in the universe he truly hates, hates with every fiber of his being.

Scott goes to work fighting his own way through. Perhaps not as showy as Barda's, but effective all the same. Rage guided his actions, making him rash where he would be careful, forceful, where he would otherwise seek to redirect.

A Mother Box in pain is a terrible thing. Avia quickly bid hers to shut down its calculations and protect itself, knowing she would have to devote her own energies and good thoughts to healing it later.

Avia is not nearly the powerhouse her mother and sister are. Whereas they could easily lift a tank, Avia could, on her best day, lift a very heavy man. Her fighting style relies primarily on evasive tactics, quick blows intended to easily disable without undue harm, or to use an opponent's strength against them.

For a moment, she seemed to vanish beneath a pile of prisoners. But then she was outside the pile, driving home blows to put each out as quickly as she could.

Rex's own actions are guiding by rage, fear and love. Rage for being unable to stop Darkseid's abduction of Hope, fear that they are already too late to save her and love for the girl who's always been there for him without fail.

Even when he accidentally insulted her cooking.

Rex slashes a man down with his axe, then kicks another in the head. He doesn't care if they don't get up again; throwing in with Darkseid absolves him of pity for them.

"We've gotta get out of here! If he's that concerned about keepin' us in here, that means there's somewhere else he /doesn't/ want us to be! And that's probably where Hope is!" Rex yells over the commotion as he bashes down yet another inmate.

Rex waits for Barda to clear that path, and then he lets Avia and Scott go ahead of him, bringing up the rear.

Outside, the group fights their way into the city square, just outside Darkseid's palace. Once they reach the square,the inmates back away, but keep the group encircled so that they cannot escape.

Rex sees Darkseid and tries to fly toward him, only to be met with a blast from the Omega Beams, which sends him crashing to Earth, into the throng of inmates. Many of them get in several punches and kicks before tossing him back into the center of the formation with Scott, Barda and Avia.

"You are the Thanagarian she favors. Rex?" Darkseid says, smiling at him.

"Oh, how she screamed your name. One would think you were a God yourself, how she begged you to come and save her." Darkseid grins.

"Scott, my son. You have returned to me and brought the family. I would rather not taint our reunion with bloodshed, but it appears that we each have something the other wants." Darkseid surmises.

Soon, another body is tossed in their midst: that of Himon, Scott and Barda's nephew, as well as Hope and Avia's cousin.

He grunts in pain as he pulls himself upright and glares at Darkseid.

	Avia's eyes went wide behind her mask and her knees grew week. Darkseid was the bogeyman in the closet, the dark thing that threatened to snatch children and happiness away. A dark fairy tale come to life. She clenched her fist and bit her lip. She would not show fear. She was the daughter of Scott and Barda Free. She would not show fear. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

Himon gets to his feet first, feeling the pain fade, though he is not 100%. He snarls at Darkseid and the inmates around them.

"Do you fear to face me in combat, Old One? Mabye you're afraid I can do to you what my father was prophesied to do! Why don't you come down here and face me!" Himon yells.

The crowd seems to agree with this sentiment and several people begin shoving each other as the bloodlust begins to build.

Rex also feels the rage boiling in his chest and he uses his weapon to push himself to his feet. He /will not/ let Darkseid beat him and he /will not/ leave without Hope.

"He's scared, man. Can't you tell? He'd rather stay up there with his heat vision and snipe." Rex says to Himon, before looking back up to Darkseid.

"Last chance, Stoneface! Give me my girlfriend, or I'm gonna stick my axe up your rocky ass and carve out your black heart." Rex growls.

Darkseid looks on the Thanagarian with renewed amusement. No one has dared to speak to him so in one thousand years.

"You have courage, boy. I grant you that. However, will your courage hold when you meet the leader of my Female Furies in combat?" he asks.

"Scott, there is one way to avoid death for all of you. Give me the Anti-Life Equation, in its entirety, and Hope goes free, along with you and your family." he says.

	Avia felt her face color red with shame behind her mask, even under her mother's reassuring touch. She wasn't a warrior--she had always said she detested fighting, preferring to seek only peace--but maybe the reason she wasn't wasn't because of some lofty philosophy...
