Cait and the God of the Sea
Cait was out in the Pacific saving a dolphin from a fisherman's net. The dolphin was one of Hope's pod and Hope's mother had come to Cait for help. Cait had made it out to the boat as fast as she could and had made it in time to rescue the dolphin.

The dolphin swam free of the net and Cait smiled.

"He and your mom seem to make things work..." Ruth mentions as they walk along back towards the tower.

"It depends," she said as they walked. "They've done a lot of the on and off again through out the years. I think they were divorced at some point. They don't like to talk about their personal lives. At least to me."

"Oh," Ruth says simply.

"Yeah," she said. "Though their issues go way back. One is that they had a son, Arthur Jr., and he died when he was an infant. They've really haven't forgiven each other."

"I'm so sorry to hear it."

"Thanks," Cait said. "It explains a lot about Arthur and why he's like he is. I guess."

Cait could feel the pull and call of the ocean. She pushed it back. There would plenty of time later.

"What are your parents like?"

"They're great. Happily married for twenty years. Mom's...probably what most people expect when they think of kindergarten teachers, in some ways. She's got a cheerful voice and she pays attention to lots of little practical everyday details all the time, you know? Dad's a little more serious, and gets into the more abstract standards a lot. But they both have a great sense of humor."

Cait smiled. "That sounds wonderful," she said wistfully. "Sounds like a great environment to grow up in."

"It's really worked out well for the four of us."

"Four? Do you have a sibling?" she asked.

"I have three sisters: Gail, Jane, and Clara. So as a family, actually, we're the six of us, seven if you count Jay."

"Pretty well. There's all the usual little squabbles, sure, but whoever took the book without asking or ate someone else's muffin usually owns up and apologizes pretty quickly."

"It sounds like a great way to grow up," Cait said. "It sounds like it sure beats growing up in the royal court in Atlantis. I envy you."

Ruth, not being stupid, is not going to point out that most people think growing up royalty is enviable. While technically true, it's very unhelpful to Cait.

"We're lucky. But you've done a lot to make something of yourself on your own. It's really impressive."

"Thanks," she said. "I'm just too stubborn to give up." Cait shrugged. "I didn't do it alone though. Ty has helped a lot."

"He's a great guy." A pause. "Have he and you been handling things okay since the ... stuff... in Atlantis, if you don't mind my asking?"

"He is," Cait said with a small smile. "We're good. We talked." Cait left it at that. She didn't want to go into how Ty asked her to see a shrink and get some help.

"I'm glad." And Ruth will leave it at that. "So, whom do we call first as we get stuff coordinated again?"

"My guess would be Jon Kent. He seems to be Mr. Organized," Cait said. "He led the last one and seemed to be good at it."
