Alex had mentioned Doug as there. Sure, he'd said Doug as in no position to talk to people, but like that mattered. He had to ask his crazy brother-in-law about Rahne. The idea that she could still in such horrific condition bothered him much more than the fact that he was dead here.
He was so eager to see Doug and here about it that he wouldn't even be cross if Doug called him Jamie.

He left Sarah dealing with the Summers brothers and the others getting fed and cleaned as necessary.

"I'm settling in, though I'd really like to know why everyone around here keeps staring at me when they think I'm not looking." Dane says.

And then Rae speaks up and Dane looks at the little girl.

"See, it's comments like that that make me wonder why my counter-part isn't around for me to speak with. Did he upset someone? I'd like to know so that I don't make any missteps while I'm here." Dane says.

Gwenny just stares from person to person. "He's Our Mr. Whitman, Rae, not yours."

"Ohh, right... Well, um, you see, Mr. Whitman doesn't come here. I've only ever met him when I was playing with Luna and her Mom wanted her to stay in the city that day 'stead of visiting over here. But it's one of those things Everybody Knows: Don't talk about Mr. Whitman around Mr. Bennet. It's not Mr. Whitman's fault. Mr. Bennet just knew some of his family a long time ago. Mr. Bennet lives here, mostly. Mom says he has 'Complex Posttrau-matic Stress Dis-order.' And it gets worse when he's upset. The last time somebody upset him, it took forever to rebuild that part of the grounds and put the hills right-side up again and all that."

Dorrek sketches a seated bow in Rae's direction. "My lips are sealed," he says with mock-solemnity. "Although if you're going to be continuing that habit, I'd advise you to find a teacher. People start paying more attention as you get older, and it gets harder to 'overhear' things."

He sighs and raises his glass of water in Dane and Gwenny's direction. "Here's to hoping that we don't run into anyone we care about who thinks of us as enemies."
