[closed - in progress] Where are you taking me?
Who: Hinata and Naruto to start, Tenten and Kiba to join the chorus
What: Naru drags Hina out to be social, and the unexpected happens.
Where: The Cafe
When: some random afternoon
Warnings: blushing, fidgeting and just all around Hina cuteness coupled with standard male reactions to said cuteness

When Naruto had shown up and insisted he was taking her out Hinata had been excited.  Other then campus and a few store runs she hadn't really gone anywhere since her arrival. A trip out somewhere was just what she needed. And she liked Naruto. It has been weird when she first met him at the airport but he was so laid back, so easy going  it was hard for her not to.

But now after spending an entire busride mashed up against him from lack of standing room, clinging desperately to his sleeve in fear that they would get seperated and she'd never find her way home in the throng of people, the poor girl couldn't help but wonder what the hell she'd been thinking when she agreed to go with him.

"N-not to sound cliche or anything but..." she looked up at him with big, slightly terrified eyes. "Are we there yet?"

A bus might not have been a good idea for a first-timer to the city. Then again not much Naruto did was a good idea and he wasn't about to change his ways no matter how sacred or innocent Hinata may be. Maybe the way she was practically latched onto him since the moment they got on the bus could have swayed him had it not been so cute. He let her stay close and stared down any businessman that even looked like they might get friendly. With a car there was no way he could play the big macho man role. On the bus he was at peace. [♥]

He looked down as the bus jerked, those big eyes locking him in place... Did all Hyuuga's have eyes like that? Maybe if Neji's were a little bigger... Shaking his head and looking back out the window to see the cafe nearby, he muttered, "Yeah, sure thing. You can survive a couple more seconds, right?"

Her hand squeezed his arm a little tighter as the bus shimmied and squealed to a halt. Did all buses sound like they were about to fall apart, or did they just get lucky and happen to catch the only one?

"Of course. As long as you don't loose me." She laughed at that, looking a little sheepish as she relaxed her grip on his arm a little. "I think I'm starting to understand why Neji-ni doesn't like the buses. Though to his credit I don't think I could stand trying to drive in this traffic either. I'd probably panic and get hit just trying to pull out of the parking spot."

Following his eyes as he looked out the window she spotted what looked like a little coffee house. "Is... that where we're going?" A little of that excitement started to bubble up again at the prospect of getting off this thing and into a nice seat with a cup of tea.

Cute. He laughed and tugged her along as the crowd started it's way off the bus, "Y'think I'm gonna leave you behind? I like too much to do that, Hina-chan!" Nevertheless he did like her despite her relation to one of the most annoying bastards on the face of the planet and her impeccable way of shining those evil Hyuuga eyes in a way that made Naruto melt. They'd only met once before and yet they got along so well. There was nothing he could possibly hate about the girl and he thought his other close friends would as well.

They owed him big. Not that it took much pressuring. Kiba and Tenten would jump up in an instant to help him out. His only hope was that they found charm in the girl the same way he did. Damn. This felt too much like taking the new girlfriend to meet the parents.

"Neji, huh? Like he could be in a place like this. Bus fare is too cheap. Unless it was coated in diamonds and cost an arm and a leg he wouldn't come anywhere near it." Finally it was his turn to step off the bus and he did so, getting himself onto the sidewalk before offering a hand for Hinata to take, a smile on his face despite his anger fueled and rather bitter words. "Don't tell me you hate tea. I figured everyone did around here."

When he reached back to help her off the bush she couldn't help but blush slightly. When she'd first set eyes on him she never would have guessed him to have any manners. Yet here he was, bordering on chivalrous even. Taking the offered hand she hopped down giving a sigh of relief to have her feet firmly on the ground again.

"Hate tea? How could I hate tea?" It seemed such a silly comment, one that left her a little confused. She could pick up the resentment in his eyes despite the smile, and it made her feel bad. Hinata had assumed the boys were friends. Was it the money that did this? Or was there something else.

"To be fair there are reasons my cousin is the way he is." Just as there were reasons she was the shy, skittish thing that she was. Reasons that were definitely better left unsaid. Even among family. "I don't mean to make excuses for him but, he's not all bad. He did take me in on such short notice."

Horribly short notice. Barely a weeks worth. And he'd been nothing if not gracious to her since. Surely that counted for something.

There were enough women in his life that had a mean right hook handy in case Naruto ever slipped off the charming road of chivalry. Despite common thought he did know how to treat the opposite species with as much respect as they deserved. Not that he abused his skills on the likes of some, say, like Yamanaka. Someone who could very well take care of herself. Maybe it was just her tiny figure or the way Hinata's voice barely reached his ears. Either way he was almost too afraid she would break and kept a sturdy eye on her since the moment he picked her up from Neji's apartment.

Of course it wasn't because of the tension between them or the fact that Naruto knew if something happened to Neji's cousin then double would happen to him. Absolutely not.

"Everyone likes tea around here. What's up with that?" He questioned her without really looking at her, as if it had been something that was bugging him for a great while. The look of mental constipation wiped clean from his face. "Guess I don't like the stuff enough to get why it's so wonderful. It's just crusty leaves and water to me."

He answered with a shrug, guiding the woman as she continued speaking. Again he shrugged, as if he were doing his best to bounce her words right off of him instead of acknowledging he didn't give a damn. "No need for the background information, Hinata. I know the guy has issues. Who doesn't?" This was true for the most part. He'd known Neji for a good portion of his life and through time he'd gotten close to him. To the point where they could finish each other's sentences... predict thoughts. There was just something so infuriating about someone who knew you so well, but when it really mattered you couldn't read them at all.

Naruto didn't like the insecure feeling he had when he couldn't pick up the phone and call the man or expect him at the door at random hours of the day with free food and winning wit. Yet he will never admit it and he doubted Neji gave a damn either way. There-in lay the issue. "He's an asshole, but..." He smiled as he reached forward and held the door open for her to walk in, the smell of muffins strong. "I knew what I got myself into. Why do you think I stuck around?"

First everyone hated tea around here. Now everyone likes tea around here? It was obvious he was rambling at this point and she decided this was perhaps the best chance to get him off the topic of her cousin. It was just making things awkward.

"Well it's tea, it's... traditional. Not to mention it doesn't mess with you quite as much as coffee and it's supposed to be good for you. Green tea at least."

As she stepped inside she noticed the warm smell of muffins as well and couldn't help but smile. Hinata wouldn't admit it but she did have a bit of a weakness for baked goods. The trauma and indignity of the bus ride over was quickly forgotten once through the doors. "Naruto this place is lovely."

"Welcome to the Far and Wide Cafe." It was routine. It was the every day. Like a play currently in production. The same act day in and day out, occasionally doing better than the night before. Often times just breaking about even. After all, all the world's a stage, as had Shakespeare stated. And it was starting to drive her slowly insane. Most days habitual actions and a script to play off of were not a problem for Tenten. But today, when she woke up that morning, something in her just wanted something different to happen to break the ordinary. If only for a moment so that she could keep a mental track of the days instead of lumping them all together in a familiar blur.

Enter stage left, Naruto... and a girl Tenten had never seen before.

Good bye routine.

She was traversing across the floor from one table to the next, making sure that the customers were content with their orders and enjoying their stay when the soft ding of the bell signaled the door opening again. There was a moment where Tenten gave a mental sigh at the sound and began to wonder just when the flow of customers would die down when the shock of blond hair amid a sea of brunette caught her attention. "Hey handsome! I didn't know you were gonna drop by today."

Health talk went right over his head, the lovely fumes invading his nostrils far more entertaining. He stepped in behind the young woman and let the door close, instantly perked as Tenten's voice reached his ears. Withholding all urges to make his way towards her and greet her with a hug so warm that only he could provide he wrapped his arms around Hinata instead, his chin resting there on her shoulder. "Ah, in't it? And we got such a good view from here, too." He noted with a glance towards Tenten and that adorable waitress apron, his body pressing Hinata to look her way as well. Screw personal space and formalities. His arms were comfortably tight around Hinata's waist and there he would stay until told otherwise.

"I found a pretty thing, Tenny! All alone and cold. You'll help me get her nice and fed, right?" A pout, cheek nuzzling against Hinata's neck. He was a pitiful mess that appeared to only have the best intentions despite how he was enjoying the woman's warmth and smell. She really was a lovely catch. And momentarily entirely his. Hopefully the cute girl wouldn't complain. "She might line tea. Or a muffin? You know- Those big ones? Y-you did save them for me didn't you?"

Complain? No.

What she did do was squeak rather abruptly. Her eyes widened almost comically as he pulled her back and started rubbing against her, cheeks glowing at the 'pretty thing' comment. It really shouldn't have been such a surprise to her that he would do that. When they'd first met at the airport he'd teased her there wouldn't be enough room in Neji's car for all of her stuff plus three people, so she would have to ride home in his lap. Even still she hadn't quite expected this sort of introduction.

"Naruto-kun!" half squeaked, half giggled as she flushed deeply, arms wrapping reflexively over his. Hinata was horribly ticklish and his cheek was cold where he was nuzzling her. It was embarrassing to be sure, but in a way she kind of liked it. He was sweet and charming, albeit a bit silly. And perhaps it was just because she was scared and lonely but the girl was starting to develop a slight crush on the only young man she knew here that wasn't her cousin.

Not that she would admit that.

"T-tea would be lovely." she managed to sputter between giggles as he manhandled her in public, wondering if there would be a real introduction or if this was pretty much it.

Hand pressed lightly against her hip, Tenten did her best to stifle the laugh that threatened to spill out past her lips. Particularly at the obvious blush painted across the girl's cheeks. And how that simply seemed to just fuel Naruto's efforts. It was rather cute, actually. "And I suppose next you'll be asking me if you can keep her."

Typical Naruto behavior. See pretty girl. Proceed to flirt with said pretty girl. By now, it was almost routine for him to show up at the cafe with a new piece of eye candy on his arm. It was, for the most part, the Uzumaki equivalent to meeting the parents. Or at least that was how she had always viewed it. Because, as experience showed, no one got past the first stage without the ok from her and Kiba. Still, it had been some time since he had brought anyone by, and Tenten was starting to worry that perhaps, something was wrong. Change in behavior and habits did often times mark a dramatic shift in something. But perhaps it was nothing more than a social slump.

"I've no problems with that, but you'll have to run it by Itoshii for the final verdict," Tenten added with a playful wink, "You know how she hates sharing you with others."

Before the banter could go further, she gestured with a nod of her head at a few open tables in the cafe. "Meanwhile, go ahead and take a seat somewhere, I'll be right with you."

With further diagnoses Naruto decided that Hinata couldn't possibly be from Neji's family. The bastard would never giggle or be so openly happy. Not like this. Naruto almost took some personal pride in being the one currently wrapped around the girl, making her emit those noises and sound so wonderfully happy. Sure he could make Neji smirk... Sometimes even chuckle. But never blush. Never warm up to him like Hinata did so quickly.

Quickly wiping that thought away and the impending frown, Naruto laughed instead, giving the girl another squeeze before letting up. He stood proud, quite happy that Tenten approved of his new play thing. Though, he knew better than to get in too deep with the cousin of a close friend. Even so... Hinata was a kind, pure thing that he'd like to keep close. Despite her connections with otherwise negative influences. "Na, I'm not asking this time! I'm gonna keep her all to myself. I'll take real good care of her. Won't I, Hina-chan?"

He wasn't going to wait for an answer, already leading her towards a nearby table and continuing to babble on. "Don't worry 'bout Itoshii, either! Tenny's just tryin' to scare you. She only bites if you're tasty."

A grin. "'cept I don't know myself. Maybe y'are and you're just not letting on about it."

If you had thought the girl couldn't blush any redder you were sadly mistaken. Not only did the color on her cheeks deepen more but it started to spread out over her ears and neck.

He would keep her? She knew it was playful teasing but still that phrase made her heart leap. Maybe he really did like her for her and not just because she was Neji's cousin. Maybe he wasn't just being nice to her. It was nice to think that she'd managed to make a friend here on her own.

"You're horrible." she managed to say, still smiling and trying to recover from her giggling fit. Maybe once she sat down she would be able to calm a bit. At least everyone in the shop wouldn't be looking at her then.

"Just don't forget to feed and bathe her," Tenten called over her shoulder, "Remember the last one you took home?"

A joke, obviously. But the implications were clear. Take care of her or there would be trouble.

It was another few minutes of filling out orders and ensuring that all customers were served according to time of arrival before Tenten was finally able to return her attention to Naruto and his companion. And much to her surprise, the girl was even redder than when she had left them. How that was possible, the barista was not sure. But at the very least, Tenten thought to herself, it was a lovely shade of blush. Ultimately making the scene all the more sweeter and adorable. If Naruto was not going to keep this one, Tenten was liable to befriend her just to see if the girl would finally break out of her shell.

"Sorry about that, you guys came at a busy time," the young woman said with a chipper edge to her voice, "Welcome to the Far and Wide Cafe, my name is Tenten. What can I get you this afternoon?"
