One Year Ago
Nick Fury knew where all of his troublemakers were almost all of the time. This way he knew when a headache was coming. There was one individual, not necessarily one of the troublemakers, he always kept tabs on was one Steve Rogers, aka Captain America.

Rogers was currently enjoying a cup of coffee and scrambled eggs at Rosie's Diner. Nick walked into the diner carrying a manila envelope. He slid into the booth and smiled at the waitress that appeared at the table. "Cup o' yer best, honey," he said favoring her with one of his best smiles.

"Coming right up," she said and went to get the coffee.

He looked at Steve and slid the envelope across the table.. "Got somethin' ya might be interested in."

	Steve had been by to visit James a lot whenever he could even when James didn’t want him too. He was so glad to see all the progress that he had made over the year. He knew that James could and would get better. Walking in Steve says rather confused, “I’m not interrupting anything am I?” (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

Bucky is about to reply to Tasha when he sees Steve come in. He'd have to explain to his friend about him and Natalia soon.

"Hey, Steve. Glad you came. Natalia thinks Fury should let me out of here at some point, but...I need to be sure I'm not a danger to anyone else.

What do you think? Or do you think I should stay in here?" Bucky asks.

There's a part of him that hopes Steve doesn't /want/ to let him out of here.

"You two are both great. I don't know if I'd have gotten through all of this without both of you." James says.

"Either of you talk to Fury yet?" he asks.

	"Fury says that you're ready in SHIELD's eyes. So whenever you feel you are ready, you can leave." She supposed that Steve would want to talk to her at some point about how she knew James. That would be a lot of explaining. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

"I keep forgetting I'm not that much younger than you, Steve. You keep reminding me." James jokes. He'd forgotten how easy it was to just /talk/ to Steve.

He stretches as well, but takes a little more time, since he's a bit rusty. He pops his neck a few times, wishing he had a knife handy at the moment. Still, that's not going to stop him.

"All right. Let's do this." he says, squaring up against Steve.

	Steve got into his fighting stance. He wasn't using his shield so that should make this a little fairer. He was so glad that James had gotten to the point were they could do this type of thing again and be able to really talk. "I'm ready whenever you are," He says. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

James remembers all the times they used to do this, back on base between missions or out in the field when they had the luxury. He'd spent the last part of his childhood being Steve's partner.

He'd loved every single second of it.

He aims a jab at Steve to test his defenses, which he knows are going to be top-notch.

Then he tries a one-two combo designed to get him moving.

	Even when he expect the attack, Buck is still surprised at how fast Steve is. He'd forgotten that, somehow. Even during their last fight, when he was firing on all cylinders, he'd been amazed at how strong Steve was. The punch clips his jaw, slightly, forcing him back, but James uses the momentum to drop low and try to sweep Steve's legs out from under him. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	Steve doesn't try to avoid the sweep. As he falls he turns it into an acrobatic recovery away from James to put some space between them. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	"Augh!" is the most eloquent response James can manage as Steve's hands come down on his back. It stuns him enough momentarily to let Steve make his next move. Stupid.
