A Night a Finnegan’s(Open)

So far it had been a slow night the bar of the authentic Irish pub that Casey worked at. If any of his family and friends saw this place they would laugh their arses off but they were paying him extra to work here just because he had a real Irish accent.

He was hoping that the action would pick up here so he could get more tips and there was not much more cleaning and restocking he could do. Still the night was young and business could definitely still pick up.

Jack looked away from the beams overhead to focus on the bartender. "Hi. Guinness will do it."

“Right, one Guinness coming right up,” says Casey as he goes to grab a bottle from under the bar.

Bringing over the bottle and a glass Casey asks “Admiring the architecture are ya?”

"It's what I do," Jack said with a chuckle. "Places like this should be admired, as much for builders as the stout." He put his pencil down and reached into his pocket for his wallet to show his ID.

Casey puts the bottle and the glass down to check the ID and as he does so says, “The stouts grand but this place is a fake as Joan Rivers.”

"You have to look at Joan's bone structure to really appreciate her. Structure is where the true beauty is." He opened flipped through a few pages to show sketches from one of his favorite subjects, the brownstones in the Village. "They last because they're well built. It's up to us to do justice to the bones."

Casey gave a small smirk saying looking at the very well drawn buildings, “That’s very wise statement, but what I was says was you’d never find a pub in Ireland that looks like this, but rather it’s an American vision of what an Irish pub should look like. Put silk on a goat and it is still a goat.”

"As my mother is fond of saying, you have to 'repackage' things for the Americans to make them think it's authentic." He closed the sketchpad and reached for the bottle and glass. "Then you're not someone the owner is paying to affect an accent?"

“No just getting paid a bit extra because I already have it. But I think that any culture gets repackaged when you send it out of its native land,” says Casey reflecting and what was just said. “I take then your ma’s not form the states then.”

"Greece, but ouzo isn't as good as stout." He raised the glass in salute before taking a drink. "How do you like New York?"

He picked up his pencil again and began sketching on the paper napkin sitting in front of him.

“It’s different, New York kinda reminds me of a much bigger Dublin and the people here aren’t anywhere near at friendly as the people at home,” says Casey contemplatingly, “and personally I like the whiskey better than the stout.”

Jack only smiled at that. He couldn't drink whiskey, not when he could taste every single flavor that was supposed to blend and didn't on his taste buds. He couldn't drink American beer either.

"I know what you mean about the people. I've met some nice ones, but the city isn't anywhere near as friendly as San Francisco."

“I’ve met some nice people to but I haven’t spent much time here out of the city so I can’t say too much about how nice people are around the country. But I suppose my view are colored by the village I’m from,” says Casey. He was almost daydreaming about home again.

"Well yes, a village." Jack grinned. "Cities are a bad place to find a village, no matter what the government says. But add me to the list. I'm Jack Murdock." He held out a hand to shake. Knowing a bartender could come in handy later.

“Well in case you can’t read the name tag, my name’s Casey Flynn,” says Casey who shakes his hand, “It’s nice to meet ya Jack. Feel free to come on by anytime I work around this time most days.”

"I will. I'm in the area working on a project for school and this is a great place to warm up before heading home."

“Well that’s good to hear, it’s always good to see a familiar face at work. I’m also going to school nearby here too.”
