So about that quiet retirement....
Natasha was in the kitchen and opening the boxes that had been delivered earlier in the day. She had been too tired earlier to do it and she wanted to get this stuff unpacked before she forgot about it. A pregnancy meant shopping and she had been doing just that. Babies need a lot of things and Natasha did love shopping.

The Internet was a wonderful thing and made that shopping all that much easier. She had been extremely tired lately and the idea of going out and dealing with people wasn't that appealing. The urge to shoot someone would be too great to resist. It was easier to buy online and have it delivered.

She looked at the clock. It was almost eight pm. Tony should be home soon. She hoped. Since getting the company back, he had spent more time at the office than he had at home. Natasha didn't mind. She was tired and cranky and he was a workaholic. It worked out.

She continued to unpack the boxes.

Natasha was mildly surprised her husband hadn't picked up on any of the clues about her condition. Normally her husband was a step ahead of everyone else, but with all that was going on with the company, she wasn't surprised he was a bit distracted. Tonight. She'd tell him tonight. Then came the hard part. Telling the kids.

She waited for it.

"Misha..."

"Anya. James. Liza..."

"Misha. Anya. James. Liza..."

He takes a long quaff off his coffee and gets some more.

The smell of the coffee was tormenting Natasha. She just wanted a cup of the dark, delicious, java in the worst way.

"The one on the way," she finished for him.

The clatter of the coffee cup can be heard throughout Manhattan.

"Needless to say I was just as surprised," she said as she went for the paper towels to clean up the coffee on the floor.

He's already pulling up information on his phone. When he finds the information, he theatrically throws up his hands. "The nanites -" He explains. "Fixed the vasectomy." Then he realizes who he's talking to. "Of course you knew that."

He breathes out a long slow sigh. "You like being a mother, right?"

"I figured that was the case," she admitted, "but wasn't entirely sure. When you do something, you do it too well."

She squatted down to start mopping up the spilled coffee with the paper towels. It gave her something to focus on. There were times when it was easier to answer a question when you didn't have to look at someone. "Yes, I do, but if you're asking if I'm going to stick around, the answer is yes."

"Yeah, apparently." His tone is somewhat dry, but Tasha can tell the difference between deadpan and gobsmacked.

"You..." He ducks down to help clean up his mess. "I don't know exactly what I'm asking," he admits. "I think it's 'Are you okay?'"

"I'm good," she answered. "The doc says I'm in perfect health and I'll be fine as long as I keep taking my meds. Mentally...I'm okay with this."

She looked over at him.

"What about you? I know I had some time to process it all and you just had it dropped on you, but I need to know how you feel."

"Surprisingly? Spectacular."

"Yeah..." There's a goofy grin on his face. "Don't ask me why. I might lose it."

She smiled. "Good. Because I'm too old to go through this alone."

She tossed the soaking wet paper towels in the sink for the moment and then started picking up the pieces of the coffee mug.

"How do you want to tell the kids?"

Despite the reality of it, she did laugh a little.

"Divide and conquer? I'll tell my son and you tell our daughter? James and Eliza won't be a problem. Or they shouldn't be."

She sighed and felt like a large weight had been lifted off her shoulders. "Are we completely insane for doing this again?"

"Oh no. I'm not leaving you to face him alone. I want to see the look on his face." Devious? Yes. It's a parental right. "My suggestion? Tell the other kids. Swear them to secrecy. Tell him last and watch him complain to an echo chamber for a change. I love the kid. I do. He just acts ten at family meetings and I want this to be good news."

"Then let me tell him first. And if I do it alone, there won't be any bullets flying." Misha wouldn't have the urge to hurt her. That was saved for when he was brainwashed. "I think our daughter may have the stronger reaction. After all, she was the one who left the box of condom and a note saying not to be complete idiots."
