Valentines Day, a History?
Once again, Akilah was easily found with her nose in some information.  This time, however, she was sitting at a computer with various tabs open about Valentines Day.  She'd heard about the occassion from the rest of the Avengers she'd been listening to.  It was something she'd never been familiar with, but it interested her greatly.

Daniel had just gotten back from an afternoon of picking up supplies at his favorite occult shops. He smells like something spicy and like rosemary laying just under that. He has so,me jars in the bags he has and a few different things he will be trying out.

He stops on his way and quirks a brow. He sees the red and pink on the screen. And the more historical websites too so he watches her silently.

She is pretty. He knew that his interest was more in her mind.

"Doing some light research?" He has to stop himself from calling her 'my lady'. Something burns in the back of his mind about the faerie courts and things he wishes he didn't know but does anyways.

She turned quickly, a little starled. But at the sight of Daniel, Akilah got more relaxed. She had to admitt, his company was relaxing. "Hello, Daniel," she replied, unknowing of her smile, "Yes. I have heard much talk about this... Valentines Day. I wished to know more about it. I find it very... interesting."

He nods lightly.

"People put a lot of importance in it. Early Christians used to marry in secrecy and they say somewhere that Saint Valentine would perform the ceremony for them," he says with a shrug. "I wouldn't know for sure though. My family isn't exactly Catholic. Magic and .... that sort of faith don't share the same path."

For him it's a way of life. Almost a faith in itself.

"I can see where the division might occur," Akilah said, "From what I have researched, Catholics and Christians shun magic because of their devotion to their God. From what I read, they believe magic not only evil, but a theft of God's almighty power. It is a ridiculous notion, however.

"But, I find these stories about Valentines Day quite... Hmm. I cannot find the right words to describe it."

"Right. I was taught that the power is to be respected and .... it's not stealing." The idea of being called a thief had always bothered him. It was why he was very form in how he did things. He asked he didn't just take.

Now both eye brows go up and he looks mildly amused. "Lofty? Overly romantic?"

"No, no. I suppose you could say that I admire the passion and devotion, despite the fact that such things should not be focused into one day of the year. Even so, it is one day out of the year that is planned for, and so the plans and worries of the days before and after are set aside."

She paused.

"Maybe one word cannot describe it."

"Passion, maybe? People put so much of themselves into showing the person they care for that they matter. It's all about how they set the table. Bring in the flowers. Try to get that last box of chocolate in the store on time," he says with a curious tilt to his head. He was going to have to set the bags he had down if he was going to keep talking.

He has the sudden urge to ask her out. His Dad still wasn't home so he could do something different. The idea forms in the back of his head.

Yeah he could do that. The garden on the roof of the house would be awesome. He just needed to do it in style.

"Passion could be it," she replied, "It does seem to 'fit the bill', so to speak." Then an idea became fixed in her head. Akilah wondered what Daniel was passionate about, other than magic. She was a little more than curious to find out.

"So Daniel... What is your experience with Valentines Day?"

"I don't date that much," he admits. "And so I can honest;y say my experiences when it comes to that are limited."

He peers over at her trying to figure out how to use ask her. It shouldn't be that hard. She's a girl.

Well if Daniel was finding it hard to ask Akilah, she was easily more than happy to ask him. In fact, she was just the sort of girl to do that.

"Would you like to spend Valentines Day with me, Daniel?"

His glasses slip down onto the tip of his nose and he blinks. She was asking him?

But right away he was agreeing. "I'd like that very much."

He checks out his pockets then writes down an address. "Come here early in the day. It's the family home but... My father isn't around. I think you'd like the roof top garden and I'd... like to cook for you."

He pauses then quickly jumps in. "Is there anything you won't eat?"

Akilah smiles and accepts the paper with the address on it. She looks down at it, holding the paper with both hands.

"I'd like that too, Daniel," she managed, "I am willing to try any kind of food, and have not encountered anything that I do not like."

He flushes and dips his head. The way she was acting he wasn't quite sure that he knew what to expect. It was fine that she had taken the first steps the way she was holding onto that peice of paper though had him feeling pretty shy.

"Good. Some people are picky. It gives me a lot of options for cooking though," he says with a grin. He has a few ideas on just what to make. Most guys would go straight for some kind of stake but he wanted to do something that would take longer.

He smirks just a little. "That does help. I learned to cook with that kind of food first. Do 'ya like spicy food?"

He tends to like a little bit of everything but he doesn't want to scare her off with anything really out there.

Just a few. Which for him numbers in the dozens.

He opens the door and the smell of baking breads drifts out the door. As well as the scent of preshrank cooked goods and something sweet.

He grins and steps aside. "Come in. Come in. I'm glad you got here when you did. I'm just about to get the bread out of the oven. It's nothing fancy. Just something to help off set all of the sauce I made."

He is rambling and he knows it. But he is happy to have her here.

"Thanks."

The family home has all sorts of books littering each self and some midevial weaponry decorates the family den which is just inside the house. Down the hall way there is a full suit of armor that has a shine to it just down the hall way.

"My Dad is actually a professor. He just hasn't set foot in a classroom in years. Most of what you see is stuff from a manor Dad says we own out in England near the actual Sherwood forest."

"That is impressive. He must be a very smart man. I'm sure you've inherited that from him."

Akilah looks at all of the books and the weapons, an she eyed the suit of armor more than once. It was all very fascinating. However, she was not there for looking around. She finished turning her head about to see everything and focused on Daniel.

Then he offers her a smile. "Come on. I'll show you what I've been cooking. I still need to get the bread out soon so it doesn't burn."

They enter a large roomy kitchen. There are dishes out and ready to be taken up to the roof top garden. And he pulls out the bread after sniffing the air. Steam rises from it as he puts it onto a cloth to cool.

"Are you hungry? I can serve the salad up."

She managed to hold back a stomach growl, which was actually quite the skill. It was something she learned growing up.
