The Raging Battle
An eerie calm fell over Asgard for a few brief moments. The forces of dark were outside of the shield over the city and were still. Inside the Asgardian warriors waited for the moment when the shield would come down and the battle would start. They were warriors, men and women, caught in an endless struggle against the dark forces that were camped outside the walls.

This would be another battle in an almost endless series of battles. Two forces locked in a constant struggle until the day the last battle came and all would be decided. Today was not the day of that last battle, but it was a day of battle.

The warriors inside the shield had taken up their proper places and waited for the shield to come down. The warriors armed with swords, shields, axes and other weapons were on foot and horseback. Beserkers waited to unleash uncontrolled fury upon their enemies. Magic users stood perched upon high battlements waiting to unleash their spells upon the enemy. Archers also lined the battlements, waiting to rain a storm of arrows upon their foes. Valkyries waited to take to the air to strike at their enemies from above. The battle commanders paced the upper battlements looking out at the forces, dark and light, below them.

Everything was still. Man, woman, horse and enemy. Not even a breeze blew.

The shield came down and chaos erupted.

"We sent thee to serve alongside thy siblings, including thy reckless brother. Thou hast long been away from Asgardian training. I still doth believe Midgard ist good for thee... but mayhap a time of separation? I believe I canst convince the Avengers to let thee join their numbers. They need greater strength and skill... and t'would separate thee from thy siblings for a time and let thee clear thy thoughts."

"If thou think it ist for the best, then I wilt do it without hesitation or complaint," she answered.

Thor shakes his head, standing up and moving to hug his daughter.

"Nay, Svalin. I wilt neither command it, nor make any great insistence. I suggest it as a possibility, and wilt aid thee if thou thinkst it mayst do thee some good. But thou'rt no common warrior to be ordered about. Thou'rt mine daughter, mine eldest daughter. Tis time that thou wert given thy options, and then it ist to thee to make a decision. Thy brother wilt always need directing, mayhap Aridis as well, but I not only expected better of thee than wast thy actions today... I hath faith in thee... absolute faith that thou wilt redeem thyself to e'eryone. And that begins with deciding what comest now. The bridge ist badly damaged... but t'will be up to thee, when it ist fixed, which coast thy steps take thee to, not to me."

Svalin stood and hugged her father. "I understand, Father. Thy counsel ist most wise and I wilt consider thy words. The day we art to return to Migard wilt be the day I choose mine way. I wilt work to restore mine honor and thy faith in me. I art most sorry I didst disappoint thee."

He hugs her back. "A good choice. In the time coming, I wouldst suggest then that thou visit the families of all those killed in the assault. Some mayst hath unkind words for thee, and some mayst be respectful, but thou mayst feel some hostility... but seeing the consequences of thine decisions so close mayst help thee... and thou wilt need to learn of them. For I hath agreed that thou shouldst be one of the speakers at the ceremonies to honor the fallen. Twouldst do a great deal to restore people's faith in thee to speak well and show them great regard."

"Aye," she said as she released him. "I wilt visit the families of the fallen and talk to them." It was going to take awhile, there had been a lot of casualties. "I wilt think on what I wilt say." She smiled a little. "Thank thee, Father."

He nods. "I hath faith in thee, and most of the fallen, at least, went to Valhalla, so tis not as great a disaster as it might hath been, but twill still be many difficult days ahead. Regardless, I hath great faith in thee yet, keep thine head held high. For now, go and rest."

Svalin nodded. "I art going to do mine duty," she said with a small bow. With that, she left the house to start her task.
