The Raging Battle
An eerie calm fell over Asgard for a few brief moments. The forces of dark were outside of the shield over the city and were still. Inside the Asgardian warriors waited for the moment when the shield would come down and the battle would start. They were warriors, men and women, caught in an endless struggle against the dark forces that were camped outside the walls.

This would be another battle in an almost endless series of battles. Two forces locked in a constant struggle until the day the last battle came and all would be decided. Today was not the day of that last battle, but it was a day of battle.

The warriors inside the shield had taken up their proper places and waited for the shield to come down. The warriors armed with swords, shields, axes and other weapons were on foot and horseback. Beserkers waited to unleash uncontrolled fury upon their enemies. Magic users stood perched upon high battlements waiting to unleash their spells upon the enemy. Archers also lined the battlements, waiting to rain a storm of arrows upon their foes. Valkyries waited to take to the air to strike at their enemies from above. The battle commanders paced the upper battlements looking out at the forces, dark and light, below them.

Everything was still. Man, woman, horse and enemy. Not even a breeze blew.

The shield came down and chaos erupted.

"Such a lack of confidence doth not become thee," Asleif said, kindly. "Thou shoudlst not concern thyself thusly. I hath the utmost of faith in thee, mine friend."

"My confidence now is not what it was a few days ago." Vincent says casually. "I am as I have ever been."

A pause.

"Although perhaps a bit wiser, and a bit less knowledgeable." He furrows his brow. "I am experiencing... a sense of loss; but of what, I have yet to discern."

"Passing strange," Asleif mused. "Though not impossible to determine, with the proper spells."

"I would imagine so." Vincent nods "At this time however, I fear my body has had a bit too much of spellcraft across it already. I would do tell to wait before having any divinations performed on my person."

He hesitates, then speaks up again. "There is much of the realm I would wish to see before leaving, if you would see fit to escort me."

"T'would be mine pleasure," Asleif said, "to escort thee, mine friend."

He smiles, grateful.

"There is one other thing I would like your advice on..." He clears his throat, then his gaze hardens.

"I'm not certain I can bring myself to trust your sister. I can understand her enmity, but I have spent too much of my life endeavoring to convince people I am neither of my parents to take her venom lightly."

He slouches bitterly. "It is not to my liking to avoid a confrontation, but I cannot determine if there is any chance of resolution even in that course of action."

"Tis unlikely she wilt do thee any express ill," Asleif replied. "Svalin be too honorable for the likes of that."

She shook her head. "Nay, you need fear her not, but neither wilt she ever think highly of thee, I suspect."

Vincent laughs dryly. "I would hope so."

He lays back down, turning his head to her. "The irony is in how much smaller a world the golden realm is compared to Midgard. It is not as though I would have more people to impress, but rather that I have less of a world to be lost in."

He does smile however. "But it is not so dreadful a thing, to return to where I was born. Perhaps you would accompany me to visit Lord Hrimhari and Lady Rahne? They and their eldest daughters were quite dear to me when I was young."

Asleif allowed a small smile to pass over her lips. "T'would be mine pleasure," she said.
