A world of hurt
Sarah remained unconscious through the flight to the states, and all the way to the east coast, though Talia did what she could for the worst of her injuries. Her healing is good - but it'll still take plenty of time.
The X-Men's facilities are still overtaxed, but they do have healers, and possibly the best chance of freeing Anya's mind, so that's where they end up.

By the time she awakens, she's bandaged, some of the most severe of her wounds are tended, and only 90% of her is in active pain at the moment. At least til she tries to move, then it hits about 97%.

Leech had been sitting by the bedsides of various patients with one of his favorite books, talking a little, keeping an eye that everything was okay.

He doesn't stay for more than half an hour at any particular bedside. Wouldn't want any accidents interfering with anyone's healing, just in case their mutant physiology could help them any.

Eventually he comes to the one he doesn't know at all, book tucked under his arm.

She blinks awake at the sound of footsteps, even faint ones. A year of guerilla warfare against the sentinels and nightmares ever since the vampire Black Panther had left her a light sleeper - at least when not in a healing coma.

"Oh, hey. Leech, right?" She hoped she was remembering right from the stories and brief encounters with other world X-Men.

"I heal fast, thankfully. Though this one is going to take a few days, at least. You guys do good work though."

"We've got some great people." They'd certainly had a lot of chance to showcase that recently. "But I'd better not stay long. I don't want any accidents screwing up your healing."

"Oh, right! No, its ok. I'm pretty sure I'm immune to your powers, like I am to my mom's. And I could use some company, and some information. Please, sit?"

Leech smiles. "Great." And sit he does, setting the book aside. "So what do you need to know first?"

"Eventually I'm going to ask what you're reading there and prove I'm not all serious business. But first of all, I know where I am, and the date from talking to others... but a lot still doesn't make sense. The last memory I have was months ago. Any chance I can get a run down on important current events? I can't even move my arms enough right now to read the paper, or I wouldn't ask. I know there's been some less than pleasant things... I'm just trying to get up to speed, and try and figure out why I can't remember anything... including where this bracelet on my arm came from."

Leech thinks.
"Well, there was an attack here very recently that was...really bad. Student fatalities. Your...alternate-mom was among the pretty badly messed, but she's recovered. You and Anya Stark were involved in something that didn't get fully explained to me, but you, obviously, were hurt badly and she's going to need some kind of serious psychic detox that'll take a while with our current resources. We don't know what the bracelet is; maybe it has to do with your being from another reality?"

"That's possible. I'm aware of my home dimension, and that I've been here before. What I can't recall is why. When she recovers, Anya may know more."
Her expression softens. "I'm sorry to hear about the attacks. That must have been rough on everyone. I remember how much of a community this place is, even if I was only here for a couple movie nights. Anything I can do to help out? Once I've recovered some, anyway."

He picks it up. It's G.K. Chesterton's The Man Who Was Thursday: A Nightmare. "Good book; has this way of making a guy feel less angry at the universe for a while after reading it. So that's why I reread it occasionally."

She nods. "I found an old copy of The Napoleon of Notting Hill once." Back when she was fighting the sentinels. That part she remembers. "Good book, I must have read it a dozen times... we didn't have much access to books, but the last fifty or so pages were damaged, so I never have found out how it ends. I like the author though. If I'm here a while, maybe I can borrow it?"

"Sure; I'd be happy to lend it. The first time, a few years ago, I had to read it with a dictionary, but that's probably more 'cause of me than the book. I can dig up the Napoleon of Notting Hill, too, so you could catch the ending. ...Was that in your original world?"

"Kind of. My birth world was Battleworld, which was a lot nicer than it sounds. I believe some of the X-Men in this dimension were there. In my home dimension, they never returned to Earth. Five of the children - myself and four of my friends did though, to find that it was controlled by the creators of the Sentinels, and most mutants were being hunted to extinction, with just a few left in America. We kind of became guerillas there. I'd appreciate it though. I've always wondered."

"Yeah, it seems like someone should. Except I'm not sure how they would. No openings, no panels, no way to remove it. Maybe a telepath or something could make something of it." Which the X-Men are in short supply of right now, but she doesn't know that.
