Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:exiles, inactive - patriot, npc team - weapon x, plot-"from hell with love"

Adjustments:
Bucky's been lost for several hours now. He tried calling the Avengers' East compound, but the number was answered by a young student. He even tried reaching Tony Stark's personal number, but that number was disconnected.

He sits in the internet cafe, shaking his head. It's wrong -- all wrong. The Avengers formed decades before they should have -- in the 70s. Steve was the one frozen in ice for decades... not him. It's like... a strange mirror world based on his own.

Did he slip into another dimension? How? His memory is like swiss cheese, though... he can't remember specific moments clearly.

He looks up the address for the Avengers East -- still the same place, the Maria Stark house. He gets to his feet. He can't just call the normal number -- it'll get ignored. He needs to show up in person. Maybe find Steve; even in a different world, he knows he can trust Steve. And they can help him find Tasha, which is his top priority. If he hadn't screwed up, assumed Tasha would be able to read his style as easily as he read hers in combat, she wouldn't be gone now.

"You're not bad yourself," he replies, focusing on defense for the moment and blocking the blows. "But I know something you don't."

He's quickly picking up on Bucky's style and stance, the blows getting harder and harder to block as he swings away.

"You know jack, old man."

He's... picking up on my fighting style. Reading my motions. Better than most... possibly even a mutant ability.

He stays on the defensive, but he knows soon, this old warhorse will be going down unless he does something.

He recalls something Danny Rand taught him to do once when they were sparring. Clearing your mind -- becoming an empty vessel for your combat moves to pour through.

He clears his mind... and lets his instincts take over.

That definitely takes Nicholas by surprise. He freezes a moment, trying to remember his actual martial arts training as his mutant ability stops feeding him constant information.

Granted, taught by Viper and Hydra, he's still very good - as he shifts into stance, but he isn't ungodly good anymore.

"Nice trick. It'd better not be your only one."

Patriot doesn't reply. He's still moving entirely by instinct. Instinct honed by three years training under the best martial artist the world had ever seen -- Captain America -- and an additional 12 years of intense focus and training.

Instincts tell him when and where to punch and kick, where to twist and spin. He doesn't know what he's doing until he's already doing them, a dance of unpredictable -- and very brutal -- combat.

It helps a lot once Bucky recongnizes the pattern - Nicholas was trained by Viper and Hydra, both of whom he's fought. Once he picks up on the style, turning the tables doesn't take long.
Without his powers, Nicholas, is good, Bucky is better.

Nicholas has been in this game to recognize this too - and after taking a few hard hits, he turns and dives for a button on a console.

"You have a choice, old man - you got time to chase me, or get your friends out of here - if you're quick, you might even make it in one piece."

With that, he bolts. Even his healing factor has its limits, and self-destruct might be one of them.

Dammit.

Patriot can't save everyone -- he knows that. But he saw Logan in a case earlier. He didn't try to awaken him then, because he knows nothing of the Logan of this world.

But Logan takes priority over Kraven, and certainly over those he's stunned in the fight.

He grabs a wrench and smashes the tube holding Logan. Throwing Logan over his shoulders in a fireman's carry, he next moves to Tasha, freeing her.

He then notices Kraven beginning to get to his feet.

"You want to even your debt?" he demands. "Grab her and follow me, and I'll consider this even."

He moves towards the exit, grabbing two unconscious people he'd shot earlier on his way, dragging them one in each arm. It's a heavy load -- Logan is somewhere around 250 pounds, and each of the other men are about 200 pounds apiece -- but he can manage it for a short distance. He just needs to get as far away as he can.

And these two men will be able to answer a great many questions once they come to.
