You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Woman
They had arrived at Earth and had orbited for awhile before Empress had selected her targets. It had taken some time. She didn't want just ANYONE. They had to be among the best. She WOULD win the gladiatorial games this time. NOTHING would stop her. Not even a small thing like gender.

Empress didn't care if it was cheating. The only thing that mattered was winning and she would win this time.

The teleporters were activated and the selected targets were beamed directly to the lab. There they underwent a little transformation and were given attitude readjustments and then put into a holding cell.

The men would wake up in the holding cell to find a few changes.

This is nothing like the last battle for Vincent, and she knows it. This is against an Asgardian, one of Thor's blood. She knows full well that this is one of the worst possible battle scenarios for her.

She's trapped in a sealed room with brute force, with a mind too savage once it gets going for any charms or enchantments to mean anything.

Her mind is aflame with frustration again as well. She was called back, after over a decade of disregard and being disavowed. She'd stood with them, and for that, her entire life had fallen apart. All because of that damned choice. She hadn't wanted to make it. She hadn't wanted to hurt anyone.

Until now.

She strides briskly across the arena, multiples of her spilling out with each step as she tries to get lost in the crowd, even as her voice comes out from each one of them.

"For the Empress." The words are hissed.

She wastes no time with preliminary jousts or testing, she goes immediately for the throat, her staff crackling to life with a blast of raw concussive force issuing forth.

It hits, she staggers with the force, but doesn't come close to falling. Doing her best to home in on the original, she lunges into the midst of the duplicates, just having to get close, happy to shatter multiple mirror images along the way.

Even as some of their number shatter, the mob scrambles, working their way around Halbjorn in a ring. Another blast, not as strong, but more tightly focused, comes in from behind at the back of the berserker's knees.

Strength of arms is not the only force to be imbued with the power of one's emotions. Vincent is keenly aware she may be maimed or worse in this fight as she loses, but she will unleash hell before her opponent brings her to her knees.

Halbjorn crashes down, pain beginning to awaken the spirit. Good, if the Empress wishes battle, then bring it on. She will be the champion. She lives for this, savors it. The madness hasn't swept over her yet, she's still fighting tactically, but its with raw force that she slams both fists down on the floor, sending out a powerful shockwave, used on the field of battle to scatter multiple foes.

As it sweeps over the duplicates, she rises, rushing at whatever is still moving.

There.

If only for a moment, Vincent brought a god to their knees.

The small victory is quickly run off however, as the impact is enough not only to shatter the remaining illusions, but to launch Vincent's light frame off the floor entirely. She's tumbling head over heels as she sees Halbjorn approaching, still in mid-air.

She braces herself for impact, erecting what shields she can.

She lowers her shoulder and crashes full speed into the shield, glad for a single target to home in on now.

Vincent is sent flying, but manages to enter into active flight before her unshielded back collides with the wall. She strafes past Halbjorn, raining down a variety of elemental attacks.

She raises her arms, shielding her face. She finally, for the first times in the fights, draws her axe, flinging it at the flying sorceress, finally starting to take this process more seriously.

Vincent accelerates, having to relent in her downpour of attacks, to dodge the thrown weapon. Cautiously, she closes some of the distance, raining down stronger attacks. The intervals between barrages are longer now, but their intensity is steadily increasing.

Rushing into the midst of the attacks, some slowing him, others leaving signs of burns and injury, but no hesitation, he leaps at Vincent with a sudden roar and rush of speed.

Vincent yelps in surprise as her leg is grabbed, not having anticipated that measure of speed. She switches tactics for the moment, abandoning her staff in order to place both hands on Halbjorn's forehead in a near panic. She attempts to Stun her, in hopes of wriggling free.

It stings, but Halbjorn bulls through the stun, even as it pushes her conscious mind further back. She keeps hold of the leg with one hand, reaching for the sorceress' torso, clambering up to grapple properly.

Vincent hisses with rage and channels another spell before her arms are lost to her. Lightning may be the domain of her opponent's bloodline, but it does not solely answer to them.

There is none of the cursory offensive spell that she used in her first round. This is a lightning strike, at point-blank range.

The one problem with lightning - its conductive. Halbjorn takes it, roaring with rage and pain, but nearly as much of the strike is channeled into Vincent through her opponent.
Still smoking, enough scarring to suggest she's blind in one eye, Halbjorn flails with one hand hard at her opponent, holding on with the other in a crushing grip.

Vincent was prepared for the pain. This was never her fight to win to begin with and she knows it. She just intended to bring the fight to her opponent as much as her abilities allowed.

Her flight spell already failing, they plummet towards the floor as she feels a few ribs crumple under Halbjorn's flailing strikes. Her elemental spells are spent with one arm disabled and caught in the death grip, but she has one last trick to play, even if she finds it mildly distasteful.

Ignoring the hazard of using it at close range, she unleashes a web spell that tightly engulfs Halbjorn's head, as well as her arm. It's a long shot, but there's still the slightest chance he might suffocate to the point of unconsciousness before her attacks render Vincent the same.

What is battle without daring and risk, after all?

Bound to her opponent as she is now, her last vestige of hope is that gamble, and the likelihood of Halbjorn hitting the floor before she does.

The two are tied together, no need to hold on any longer. Halbjorn continues to attack savagely with one hand, tearing at the web with the other, even as she hits the floor. That impact doesn't appear to do a great deal, and while the web is slowing her down, she can also sense her opponent weakening. That this battle will leave her scarred never occurs, or matters more than it ever has before, and under her strength, while Vincent's magic is never a thing to be discounted, the web still tears.

Under the rain of blows, Vincent's other arm is freed. She has enough energy for one final spell.

She lost the gamble, but she's never been one to accept defeat with much grace. Her devotion to the Empress is perhaps making her a bit more ruthless, but the intensity is her own. She unleashes one last wave of fire, it blasting away from her into Halbjorn and the floor. The backlash tears the webbing and sends her flying across the arena, falling limply to the ground, but still barely conscious.

She's spent, energy depleted, multiple ribs and an arm thoroughly broken. She breathes heavily, it taking all her remaining energy to prop herself up on one arm, staring across at her opponent.

She goes flying under the blast, bits of barbarian costume and webbing still on fire, her upper body laced with scars. She pauses a moment, fighting for breath, and feeling the myriad wounds of differing sorts spread over her form, and for a few seconds, it looks like she may even yield.
She succumbs entirely to the madness, snarling like a wounded beast, uncaring for the pain, just out to put an end to it, destroy everything that moves.
Rising to her feet, in a deep, animalistic crouch, she pounces at Vincent.

Ah...

She sees the charge coming, even as her vision blurs and darkens.

I've lost.

Vincent is barely touched by the first wave of the attack before falling unconscious.

Halbjorn will be marked by this fight for some time to come. She isn't even aware of her victory for some time, its only the Empress' hold, channeling the madness, and even then, barely, which turns her away from her downed foe, and makes her aware there's another fight coming quickly, she just has to wait but a few moments more, and the Empress' champion, little more than an animal now, will be unleashed upon the intruders.

Good.
