Good Food, Good Times
Justin Rhdoes is tired of lying in a hospital bed. His sister (he's still getting used to that) has had a tougher time of it than he has, so he doesn't think it's right for him to stay cooped up in a bed. After showering, getting dressed and "asking" to be allowed some time to himself, Justin takes Tony, his A.I., and decides to go see New York for himself.

He's still awed at how new everything looks here. This isn't a world ravaged by battle and bombs, and the people walk around here without a care in the world for their safety. Justin's awed by all of it, never having seen this many people in a single place that weren't hiding for their lives. After several blocks of walking, though, Justin feels fatigue set in. He curses his weak heart for the millionth time, and decides that food and drink are in order, since all he's eaten is infirmary food over the last week. He's got a bit of money as well, a gift from Rhodey.

He still doesn't know if the man likes the idea of having a son, and he still hasn't meet Miss Potts, his mother.

"Tony, locate nearest restaurant. I want a burrito." he says. He hasn't had a burrito in months.

Minutes later, he's in line at a place called Chipotle, trying to decide if he wants steak or pork.

He's tempted to order both.

A voice speaks up inside Justin's head.

"Justin, the odds of her doing so are 1, 293, 219 to 1. It's illogical that she planned it, though she passes for what most men would call attractive.

Your increased blood flow and heart rate lend credence to my assertions." Tony says.

"You find her attractive." the AI finishes it's analysis.

It's going to be a long day. Justin thinks to himself.

As he sits, two things happen. First, she feels the familiar twinge at the base of her neck when she's around advanced tech. It's a pleasant feeling for her, but she doesn't see anything cool. The second thing is that she hears what's going on in his head. And it amuses her.

"Increased bloodflow, huh?" She grins at him before taking a bite of her food, chewing a moment before speaking again. "I'm sorry. That was rude of me. I'm a telepath. Kinda. And no, I didn't plan this. Your...friend is right."

It wasn't human, whatever was running analysis.

"Christina Frost." She offered her hand.

Justin blinks stupidly as she repeats Tony's words. He realizes what she is before she mentions it.

"Wow, this is not my day, is it?" he says.

Don't stand there gaping, boy, introduce yourself.

"Justin Rhodes. Nice to meet you." he says, taking the hand and giving it a firm shake.

"Please ignore the other voice in my head. I do." he says sardonically.

Yep, you do. And it lands you in the hospital. Maybe this girl can upload some etiquette software directly in your mind, Justin, since you seem to be lacking. You haven't introduced us yet.

"And I don't plan to." he says, trying to keep his attention on Christina.

She laughs a little, warmly.

"I'm actually going to actively try not to read your mind at all, Justin. It's kind of rude and frankly, it's my mom's thing." On the table, Chris' phone started vibrating. "Speaking of my mother..."

Chris touched one finger to the screen and there was both a visible and audible zap and then the phone died. She smiled at Justin.

"Technopathy is my primary thing and I think your etiquette is just fine. And, for the record? I think you're attractive, too. Especially since you brought me my burrito. I love these things, I just can't do meat."

Oh, she doesn't do meat, Justin. That's code. Definitely code. Sorry, buddy.

Justin couldn't believe what Tony just said and hoped that Christina had chosen that moment to start actively NOT reading his mind. Did Goddard upload something into him? Did he start reading some men's magazine?

"Technopathy? That's amazing! There's a lot that can be done with just a few liberal applications of that ability." he said his mind racing.

His mind stopped racing when she said he was attractive, but something else started to. He wasn't used to anyone so forward, and she would be able to tell from the traffic in his head.

But she would also know the feeling was mutual.

"Ahem. Well, thank you, Christina. You're pretty attractive yourself." he says. The phone rings and he looks at it.

"Don't you think you should answer that? Your mother might need you." he says.

Christina heard Tony. She just chose to ignore him.

"My mother never needs me, Justin. You'd have to know my Mom. In short, I was an unwanted child, grew up being reminded of that, and I left home at 18 to find my own way despite my mother being the infamous Emma Frost. If something is important enough, she'll call the school or send someone after me. Usually she just calls to criticize and remind me that I'm not my little sister, who is pretty awesome. Really, it's okay."

She put the broken phone into her purse. She had noticed that his eyes lit up a bit at the discussion of technopathy so she decided to pursue that line of conversation.

"And if someone can do much with just a few liberal applications, think of the things that can be accomplished with focus and detail! Like your watch, for example. It's already a nice watch, but with a little bit of effort...you could have a damn supercomputer to exceed the best in the world on your wrist in minutes. If you want me to, I could do it while you eat."

She grinned.

"Or fix your mouthy friend."

Justin blinked again.

"Emma Frost...is your mother?" Justin says quizzically. He doesn't know the Emma Frost of this universe, but the Emma Frost he knew was a hero. She saved a lot of people, including him.

"You can really do something with a watch? Okay, this I've to see." he says, taking off his watch.

"Don't worry about Tony. He's getting deactivated tonight." Justin says.

"Yeah. Emma Frost is my Mom. I know. I look nothing like her. Except for the hair. I have her real hair color."

She reaches out and takes his watch when offered, moving her food aside and placing the watch on the table. Chris looks at it for a moment and one could all but see the wheels turning in her mind.

"Oh yeah, this will be easy. Mind if I put my phone number in the contact list I'm gonna build you? You'll be able to use your watch as a cell phone when I'm done."

She winked at him and rested her fingertips on the face of the watch. She was already weaving.

"Uh,sure. Go for it." he says with a smile. A contact list in his watch? He was going to have to find a way to incorporate this into his armor.

"So, what else are you into besides fixing random guys' watches over burritos?"

"You're not random. Your my burrito hero." She grinned as she worked and took a drink of her soda.

"Messing with technology obviously. I wish I had my iPod with me. I have really tricked it out. Um. I like music. I listen to it as much as I can when I'm not training. I need to broaden my horizons a bit. I grew up with a lot of classical, but there's some great jazz in this city.

"What about you?"

"I thought you said you were staying out of my head." he grins. "I grew up on classical and jazz....and the Beatles. Don't tell anyone, because they'll never believe you."

He blinks when she says there are Jazz clubs.

"Like...you mean places where people play only Jazz? Like all the time?" he asks. It's an odd question to ask and he knows it.

"I'm new around here." he adds as an after-thought.

"I'm totally not in your head." She smiles broadly. "Seems we have something in common. There absolutely are Jazz clubs, where people play only Jazz and all the time. There's a fantastic one about three blocks from here. I was planning on going tonight.

"Do you...want to go with me?"

Justin couldn't believe his awesome luck. Two hours out of bed and he's already got a date? A week after landing in this dimension?

Wow, this was going to make for a hell of story when he got home.

"Christina, I'd like that a lot. It would be fun." he says.

Crap, he's going to need more money. And clothes.

"Awesome. So where can I pick you up and what time will you be ready? Show's at nine, but maybe we could get dinner beforehand. I know this place that's amazing."

She smiled at him. Yeah, she just asked him out. And he was totally going with her. It'd been ages since she'd had a date and she was feeling pretty confident about this now. And damn...he's cute. Her smile got bigger as she handed him back his watch.

"It has a hologram projection that will run a tutorial for you. I recommend playing with it later."

He couldn't out the Avengers to her, because that would be a bad idea.

"How about we meet back here around seven? My relatives just moved, actually, and the house is a mess. My aunt would be mortified if I invited anyone over with the way the house is right now." he says.

"So, if we meet here, that would be a good idea." he says.

"Works for me, Justin. Here. Seven tonight. It's a date."

Special emphasis on date and she winked at him.

"I look forward to seeing you in a few hours."
