Keep Your Friends Close
She was still nursing the broken arm, but her injuries were mostly stabilized. In light of all she had gone through with her family right now, she needed to get out. A standard scrying spell determined the location of the friend she had in mind. After letting Kristoff know she would be leaving the building, and her general destination, she was off.

She arrived at the front gates of the Defenders' headquarters, asking for Asleif over the intercom.

	"If... you're sure." Willing to put the debate to rest for now, Vincent escorts her inside and to a table, the venue being open seating. "I'm sorry if this is an imposition, I've been going through some circumstances myself, and really wanted to see my friend." She forces a smile. "But I'm pleased to make your acquaintance." 	Dawn smiled a little bit. "It's been nice to meet you too," she said. "Don't worry about it." "Though I have to admit, I'm surprised to learn Asleif has any friends. Vincent snorts, somewhat amused as she looks over the menu. "If not for the timing of something else, we might have been a great deal more than friends." She muses to herself, before speaking up again.

"Asleif... could be difficult, yes, but she had a very strong sense of self, one that left her feeling removed from others' ways. She didn't know how to deal with people, so she simply kept them at arm's length. She had an incredibly quick mind, and a great thirst for life, though. I found that very pleasant."

Dawn nodded as she listened. It jibed, in its way, with what Halbjorn had said, about someone who'd found more importance in studies than people and slowly receded.

She nodded. "I kinda... inherited her room. She didn't have many keepsakes, but there was a picture of the Vincent from the FF," she said. "I'm guessing that is... was? You?"

That she could take that even in a little bit of stride was a testament to how used to the crazy she was becoming.

Vincent blinks, surprised at that. She hadn't questioned her friendship with Asleif, but that a picture had been kept of her was a surprise.

"I would imagine so."

There's a bit of a pause, which is thankfully interrupted by their server. Vincent orders herself a Thai iced tea and ahi tuna to start.

She tilts her head curiously. "Is there anything you feel of Asleif in your day to day activities?"

	Vincent nods. "An understandable degree of mental friction." She thinks over the further mention of cognitive flashes. "You would do well to keep records of them. Vincent nods emphatically as their drinks arrive.

"That I can very much relate to. I imagine the only reason I'm handling this news with this level of composure is... well, I'm simply emotionally exhausted. I've dealt with much else recently."

She takes a sip of her drink, then collects her thoughts.

"But this is all a bit dark... tell me about yourself Miss Roberts."

	"Not that much to tell, really. I'm from LA, lived there pretty much my whole life. Went to UCLA, got a degree to be a librarian, and was lucky enough to actually get a job doing that once I graduated." (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

Vincent blinks, something not having occurred to her before.

"You're older then us then... I see." It wasn't something she expected, but she reminded herself internally that there was no reason to expect any symmetry between Asleif and this woman. She was clearly her own person.

"Congratulations on your degree. I've yet to decide if I wish to attend university academics."

Dawn mentally estimated Asleif as closer to her own age than Vincent's, but this was neither the time nor place to bring it up.

"Thanks," she replied.

"Kind of depends, I suppose," she added. "Lots of people get by just fine without a degree, but lots of places, it's kind of important to have. Depends on what you want to do with yourself. Beyond being in the Fantastic Four, I mean."

	There's a palpable aura of unease around Vincent at that last part. "Yes... I suppose so. I do, of course, want to better the world, but there are a myriad of ways to do that." She orders herself a generous portion of sushi, and a steak teriyaki plate as well. "If her power is truly within you, her... your body will remember the motions and words soon enough." "Oh you can do far more than just that. I was referring to how frequently that particular transformation crops up in folklore. You'd almost think it was a beginner's level spell."

She coughs into her hand. "Asleif actually apprenticed under my birth mother for a time. Her spells tend to be a bit more... well, I suppose underhanded might say it best. She had a very respectable repertoire of more traditionally offensive spells as well."
