Having Fun In the Warm California Sun
It had taken a little effort and a lot of talking and explaining, but the Asgardians, Ohu and Griffen O'Niell were moving to California. They were going to act as the Avengers' west coast team and would go by the name of The Defenders. Their headquarters would be at the former West Coast Avengers base Avengers' Compound located at 1800 Palos Verdes Drive just outside of LA.

The 15 acre estate featured one main building, five bungalows, garage, hangar, tennis courts and a private beach. It would be a good base for the Defenders and keep the collateral damage out of city.

Today was moving-in day.

Sydney watched her daughter leave with the two women and the man. She shook her head and hoped Zoey wouldn't drive them crazy. Her daughter was a little enthusiastic about things.

She turned toward the man that had been a part of the welcoming committee. "Mr. O'Niell I presume?"

He nods and rounds the corner to not look like he was hiding. He wasn't trying to look like a nervous shy person, even though that's what he's really like.

"Yes, that would be me. It's good to meet you Ms Ashcroft."

"It's nice to meet you, but please call my Sydney or Syd."

"I'm Marlow." Marlow didn't offer her hand. She wasn't one to touch people. Sometimes things happened when she did. "I'm with Sydney."

"Then call me Griffen," he offers. He thinks about it and shrugs. "They'll be fine. They'll need to get used to kids, I think."

"Mr. Stark had said they have had limited exposure to a lot of things," Syd said. "Which is why I am here I guess. Help them adjust to things." Mr. Stark had explained about them not being from Earth. She was still trying to wrap her head around the whole Norse gods thing.

"Ahh...I believe Asleif is a magic user," he says slowly. "Ohu too. I'm not used to magic yet. Do you know exactly who they are Syd? Otherwise this is going to get a little crazy. Well crazier."

"According to Mr. Stark they are the children of Thor and his two wives. This is their first trip to Earth from their home in Asgard. I assume you and I are here to babysit them so to speak and help them adjust."

"Yeah. I'm pretty much the technology man," he says with a nod. "I'm not really good with other things they need to know beyond that."

He gives Marlow a curious glace. "I'm not sure I recall you being mentioned, Marlow. Could you clear things up for me?"

"Clea sent me. I need to be here." It might've helped if she'd spent more time in the world instead of the Dark Dimension, but that wasn't part of Clea's training.

"Who? Sorry but...pretend I lived in a lab. Because that's mostly true." He folds his arm across his chest. He has a thoughtful expression on his face then leans forward slightly.. "And I'm not a robot or something. Just...stunted."

Syd shrugged. She had no clue who Clea was. "We never thought you were a robot."

"A robot?" It momentarily distracted Marlow. "No, you're real. Baseline human, but real enough."

He rolls his eyes. "I'm being kind of figurative. I'm not on the same page as you when it comes to magic because it's like...a totally different world. Just used a bad metaphor."

"Tech and magic are both very unfamiliar to me," Syd said. "Apparently we're all a little clueless when it comes to some things, but maybe that's why we're all here."

Marlow focused on Griffen intently. "Not world. Dimension. Clea is the mistress of the Dark Dimension. Mr. Stark will know of Clea."

"Uh....Okay." He blinks then decides he'll just tell Mr Stark they have another team member. Sort of. "I'll be sure to let him know then."

"How about you show us to our rooms and while we're getting unpacked, you can contact Mr. Stark?" Syd asked.

"Of course. In fact I think I have good places for both of you. There are cottages on the property that each of us are going to be using." He thinks about it then starts walking. "Right this way. Marlow. I know just where to put you. You'll be sharing with Svlain. And Syd? I have a good idea where you and Zoey will be." If there are problems I can fix it. Any problem with well, anything? Feel free to ask me for help. I can figure something out."

He babbles. Have they noticed?

Babbling filled in the space and made it less noticeable Marlow was acting weird. She couldn't help it. The voice in her head was distracting her.

"Good." A pause. "How about showing us where they are?" Syd asked with a smile.

He doesn't blush but he does start to show them where they'll be staying. First he starts with Marlow since they're the closest to the cottage she can stay in.

"See? I think it's fairly spacious. You'll be sharing though. You can check with Svlain on which bed room you'd like. I'm sure it shouldn't be an issue."

Spacious was a matter of space, and Marlow didn't need much. Traveling light between dimensions was the only way to go.

"Thank you," she told Not Robot Griffen.

"These are nice little bungalows. Small enough to be cozy, yet big enough that you're not bumping shoulders," Syd said as she looked around. "I hope I'm with someone who can deal with Zoey." If they put her with Asleif...well Zoey would be in heaven. Sydney couldn't imagine what Asleif's reaction would be.

"I think there's a section in the former servants quarters that's been turned into proper housing," Griffen says as he pulls a print out from his shirt. He scans it as he's walking.

"Ah. Right. That's what Mr Stark recommended. That way you two have some extra privacy. Given that we can expect the Gods to act like the typical twenty-somethings they appear to be at times?...Um. Yeah." He clears his throat. "A more mature gentleman will also be joining us if he's agreeable to the terms to help the team out from what I understand. His quarters will be bear yours."

"Oh, that's good. I would hate to have Zoey bothering someone all of the time," she said. "Yes, Mr. Stark mentioned another gentleman will be joining us. He didn't mention who it was or when they would be joining us, but it will probably be soon."
