A Night's Rest
Apparently fighting off vampires and cultists earned a person a stay at the city's palace. The local king was most appreciative of having his city emptied of the vampires and cultists and had invited the Avengers along with Red Sonja and Conan to stay for the night in his palace.

Svalin cared not where she stayed, only that she had a place for Tryggvi and someplace to sleep. Hard or soft, it didn't matter. She was used to sleeping on the ground as much as she was used to sleeping in a bed. The girls were shown to one suite and the guys to another. In the middle of the room that connected to the two bedrooms was a large bathtub put into the floor. Servants filled it with steaming water. The same was in the guys' room. They were all expected at dinner in two hours.

Svalin carefully checked her weapons and equipment and laid the out one by one on a table in the room. Getting clean was not the highest priority for her.

"Oh, she is very fond of adventures, and often told me many stories of heroes who were not the strongest or fastest, but who used their minds and skills in ways that others did not expect.

Some of things I can do with my abilities came to me from those stories." he says.

"Grapes are good. I do not eat often, as I have little need, but I allow myself the pleasure of grapes. Grape wine is also good." he says.

"Glad to hear it. My Dad always says the guy who can lift one ton can beat the guy who can lift fifteen tons if he just works it right." She grins. "And as the guy who can lift one ton, Dad's obviously an objective source there."

"It is indeed. Mead and such are all very well, and I wouldn't knock them, but I'll always be partial to alcohol that involves fruit. I'm just that kind of girl."

"Now, we should probably head back inside soon, but..." And she trailed off purposefully.

"Your father sounds like a smart man. He certainly sounds like he's beaten the man who can lift fifteen tons several times." Eli grins. As the who probably could lift fifteen tons (if he really, really pushed it), Eli didn't believe that he was unbeatable by any stretch.

"I am only now trying new types of alcohol, but many of the ones I have tried thus far certainly beat vodka." he chuckles.

He wondered if she were tired. Had he gone on about himself too much? He often forgot that humans needed sleep, where he did not, unless extremely taxed.

"Perhaps we should...but I am open to suggestions for after we go back inside." he says, noting that going inside did not mean that they had to stop talking.

She listens to all of this and nods with varying degrees of smiling.

And then he gets another kiss. A little longer, a little less chaste. A little more leaning her weight against him, give the opportunity to take just a touch more physical initiative.

The second kiss surprises Eli, but this time, he is relaxed, and not quite as worried as he was before about making a mistake.

This time, he pulls Vernique a bit closer to him, drinking in her scent and the feel of her lips, her body against him. He will only break the kiss when she does, wanting to enjoy this moment as long as it will last.

She lets it last for a little while, enjoying it but not wanting to get him too worked up (since they're not going any further tonight), then gently pulls back again with another smile, takes his hand, and starts walking inside. "I need to sleep in a few minutes, and you can get back to talking with the guys or working out the toy, but until then, tell me more about your mother."

Eli is surprised that she wants to talk about his mother, but he's not adverse to it.

"Very well. My mother's name is Pixie and she is just as mischievous as the tales about such creatures are. Some say she started many of those tales..." he says, regaling Vernique with tales of Pixie from his youth.

He will walk her to her room, answering any of her questions along the way.

And so they will talk about his mother, who sounds just delightful to Vernique. She listens. She laughs. She clarifies a few points of interest. And they walk along until they're standing next to the suite she's sharing with Svalin, the hall momentarily empty.

She reaches to touch his face one more time. "I think we're going to get along all right, Eli."

Eli is amazed at how attentive Vernique is. She asks him questions and seems genuinely interested in his mother. He reminds himself to return the favor and ask about her father during their next conversation.

"I agree, Vernique. It is nice to get to know new people outside of the Eternals, and to learn more about humans along the way. My father would call me foolish, but I am learning that many things he taught me are not correct." Eli says.

"Thank you for listening to me tonight, Vernique. I look forward to our next conversation." he smiles.

"Hey, it's a big world, and you're just getting started. And now look, we've got a whole temporal gig to make things interesting on top of it."

"I do, too. Good night, Eli."

"Good night, Vernique." Eli smiles, and turns to go.

He walks down the hallway, a little more bounce in his step than before.

Being a hero certainly has its perks.
