Visiting Hours (open)
Well, at least they were letting him sit up today.  His parents had stepped out for coffee, which left Steve watching TV.

Click.

"Junk."

Click.

"More junk."

Click.

"Junk again."

Click.

"Okay Buddies, Hero-Up!"

"Terrifying ...And yet I can't look away."

"Thanks, man," he replied.

"Streets pretty quiet out there? 'rents won't let me watch the news."

"No, they're not. Things are getting worse. It's like the gangsters have declared open season on each other and anyone between them." Justin says.

"You shouldn't worry about that, though. People are hitting the streets to fix things."

Steve grimaced. "Shit," he breathed, wincing slightly, from having tensed up like that.

"Sounds like... sounds like I got caught in the prelude to hell breaking loose."

"Yeah, it does. But again, don't worry; people are hitting the streets to bring back order. If things get more out of hand, more people are going to step in." he says.

"Just don't go rushing back into action, man. Get better. The team will be waiting on you." he says.

"I'm not going anywhere for a while," Steve was forced to admit.

"Wondering if I should even bother going back."

"Why wouldn't you get back to work, man? You do good work out on the streets, and this is coming from someone whose life you saved." Justin says.

"Don't give up, man. That's all I'm saying." he says.

"Just... had plenty of time to think," Steve said. "I mean, it'd be one thing if this had been, I dunno, the Masters of Evil or Ultron or something. But this was some stupid regular street crime thing. And I went down like a sack of potatoes."

"Steve, guys like us don't have powers, so we have to improvise. If this had been the Masters of Evil or Ultron, we might not be having this conversation. You got hurt on the job, and that's tough. But you learn from it, adjust aim, and come back stronger.

But if you don't go back to work when you're able, then the guy who shot you won, and a lot of other people lose. Besides, I don't think you can quit." Justin says.

"By the way, did the doctor tell you if there's any lasting damage?" Justin asks.

"You haven't seen the looks Mom's had. I think she'd be happy if I did," Steve said. "Maybe."

He frowned.

"Doesn't look like it, other than some scarring. Everything they tell me says I was very lucky."

"Then you should go back, if that's what you want to do. If you really want to stop, Steve, then you should. But don't quit because you don't think you measure up to anyone whose bullet-proof." Justin says.

"Most people who get shot end up with lasting damage. There are others, like me, who are born with actual disadvantages. My heart could stop if I push myself too hard, but I don't let that stop me." he tells his friend.

"Think about that, man. Really."

Steve nodded. "I will. Seriously. Not much to do but think, right now."
