A Land of Sun and Sand:
Egypt is not all uninhabited desert. Along the Nile, the land is lush. There are large cities, such as Cairo and Alexandria. There is much more to the land than simply yellow sand and pyramids.

This is not one of those places.

The sun is blisteringly hot, pounding down on the sandy earth. Stuck in the middle of nowhere, this pyramid is easy to overlook. It is not especially pursued by archeologists. It is not easily accessible to tourists. It is, in short, an excellent place for someone to hide out. One would practically need the coordinates of the site just to locate it.

Coordinates which are now in the hands of a small group of people investigating an evil cult...

Greg arrived at the proper address after receiving a call from Michelle. She had sounded upset and Greg was concerned. He couldn't explain it, but he felt like he needed to watch out for her.

He knocked on the door.

Lynch showed up at the door not long after Greg moderately armed for the situation. Matt had called her up and gave her a brief overview of what was going on. Whatever was going on she didn’t like it and to be on the safe side she had her silver cross necklace out and not tucked into her shirt like normal.

Shelly is busy working with the woman...the bloodless, pale, vampire-bitten up to hell woman who is now naked and draped on her couch.

"She's...not waking up."

Matt nods to Greg in greeting and then gives Lynch a smile.

"We sure know what messes to get ourselves into, don't we, Karen?" he asks.

"Shelly, as much as I don't want to do this, maybe we need to take her to a hospital. If the vamps wanted her dead, they'd have killed her. By now she's done what they want, so the next part is to find the Big Bat and drive a stake in his chest.

Chicago will be a lot safer that way." Matt says.

"I agree. She should be taken to a hospital. But first...." Greg shifted into her werewolf form and very carefully approached the girl. He breathed in deeply through his nose, taking in the scents clinging to the woman's body. Now he'd be able to help find the people responsible for this.

“You can borrow one of mine,” Lynch says as she grabs one of the stakes on her and offers it to Matt.

“Do you might if I take a look around as well,” She said. A highly trained cop’s eye might pick up something that the others had missed. Plus any clues would help. The whole werewolf thing would have freaked her out but she had seen stranger and Matt wasn’t really freaking out.

"Guys..." Shelly's face went pale and grim. "A hospital can't help this woman now."

With a sad carriage Shelly pulled a blanket off the arm of the couch and covered the woman's body with it.

"She's gone." But she paused a moment as she moved to tuck the woman's hand under the blanket. "Okay, now things are creepy."

Shelly pulled a bracelet off the woman's wrist. It was the same amulet she'd retrieved from the van and the same amulet she'd retrieved from the last corpse.

"That's the same as the one from the van," Michelle said. "...Great."

“Definitely not a coincidence. Do any of you know what the amulet means.” She would have to report the murder but that could wait a bit since it seemed like there was more pressing matters.

"Wait a minute." Matt says, taking a look closer look at the amulets. That symbols on them tickle something at the back of his mind, something he can't quite place for several seconds before he recognizes it.

"These are runes. The first one was used way back when for warding off sickness. The second was a protection against death. Give me a second and I can tell you more." Matt says.

He takes the amulets and sets them on the coffee table. Then he closes his eyes and whispers an incantation before touching his fingertips to the amulet. Hundreds of images flash before his eyes, but when he opens them, he grins.

"Wow, they weren't really subtle at all. Hey Doc, you got a computer around here? I need to look something up real quick." he says.

"Yeah, gimme a sec."

Shelly disappeared from the room for a moment and came back with a netbook. It was already booting up.

"You have a lead I suspect."

Matt has lean way down from his imposing height to tap on the keys, but he does, and soon enough, he's brought up a page for a club on the East of the City.

"I think this is where we're headed." Matt says.

The page is for Vitae.

"No, not at all. In fact, this whole thing has the word 'trap' written all over it." Matt says.

"But innocent people are going to keep dying the longer Dracula and his cronies have to set up shop here in Chicago. If there's any chance of this place getting better, this might be our first shot at it." Matt says.

"I'm not particularly afraid of traps or Dracula. I say we get some stakes, gather up our skills, and kick some undead ass. They dropped a body in my apartment. I am not okay with this or anything else they've done." Shelly looked at everyone. "I say we go tonight."

Michelle hesitated. "I'm all for this. These guys tried to kill me. But if we're going to be doing any heavy action... I kind of... need to... feed, first."

Matt didn't like the of letting a vampire feed, but Michelle was asking to do so at the least.

"Well, we've got a cop here, so I'd suggest not going all the way if you can manage it. Does anyone else need to get anything before we go to Vitae?" he asks.

“I’m going to need to call this in,” Lynch said talking about the murder. “After I take care I’ll join you guys.” She really did not like the thought of breaking rules and laws but was willing to bend them if necessary.

"Hurry up and call while Michelle eats. Or call on the way. We're going as a group or we aren't going. I know there's a dead body on my couch, but I think we're as a group a bit more equipped for Dracula than the CPD. Generally speaking." Shelly didn't like the idea of cops showing up at her apartment right now. It was going to significantly complicate her being able to help with Vitae. In fact, it would impede it entirely.

"Lynch you can't call the cops at the moment. We all need to be on this and if you bring the fuzz over here, I'm stuck here indefinitely. I don't know about you but I think this is an all hands on deck type of thing tonight and if Drac's people are killing folks and dumping the near-dead in living rooms, gods only know what he's got going at Vitae. Or what other nefarious things are going on. We should get over there, figure out what the hell is going on and THEN deal with the dead body in my living room."

Matt looks to Lynch, a note of hesitation in his expression.

"Lynch...Shelly's right. If you call the cops in on this, it could give us away before we even get close. All that, and now that all of have seen the body, they'll want to question us. You know she didn't do it, but going by the book on this is only going to slow us down." Matt says.

"Give it four hours before you call in the cops. Hopefully, we can have Dracula dealt with in that time frame." he implores.

Damn it, they had a point. “Fine I’ll wait to make the call,” She said. It was very easy to tell she was not happy about it but if it meant the chance of possible saving more lives she would do it.

“Don’t make me regret this.” If they did well it wouldn't end nicely.
