Two days in New York City
Jenny was happy to conveniently forgot her scheduled appointment with Dr. Samson, but leave it to Rob to have it on his calendar. The day before, she was notified that she would be collected at 6am and delivered to the S.H.I.E.L.D. transport for the New York run.

She tossed a few items into her shoulder bag along with a new book. She didn't need anymore than that as Rob had kept their leased apartment in New York. Between his monthly trips back to New York and her infrequent traveling, he said it was worth hanging onto it. Everything she might need was already there.

A note was posted on the refrigerator so the team would know she would be in the States for a couple of days. She also included a post script asking Leech to make sure Yankee Clipper was fed. She really hoped Quinn would continue to be tolerant and not turn YC into a fluffy orange and white throw pillow.

In New York, she had time to shower and change clothes before presenting herself at Dr. Samson's office promptly at 3pm. Each time she had one of these appointments she hoped it would be the last. Each time he said he would see her again in three months. At least this time she would have something different to contribute to the conversation.

"Well, I'm glad you weren't hurt or anything. Some people have no respect for others, but a right cross or a left hook usually fix things." he says.

"I'm a fan of Spain, personally. Loved it there when I went. I've never played soccer, but it always looked fun. I'm terribly uncoordinated." Andy says.

That made her pause. He looked like he moved pretty well, but she was no one to point fingers and call shenanigans. Just pipe down and be glad he didn't seem to be creepy stalkerish.

"As long as I've lived in London, I haven't managed to make it out of the country. Except here every few months. I work in a bookstore while I'm in school so I end up reading more than I'm actually doing. I hope to change that in the very near future."

"You work in a bookstore? You are now on my list of Favorite People." Andy chuckles. "Seriously, I love bookstores. There was one in London on Bridgeport Way that I stayed in so long, I nearly missed my train to Greece." he says.

"I love to read, though. I worked in a bookstore when I was sixteen. Mom thought it would be a great summer job idea. I loved it. I was sad when the place went out of business. E-Books and stuff are nice, but I prefer the real thing." Andy says.

"And I went off on a rant. Sorry about that. What country would you go to if you could?" he asks.

"Rant away. It's a subject I can support." She swirled the melting ice in the tall glass with the straw. "I'm afraid I'm something of a throwback. I prefer books over ebooks. Hearing a voice instead of instant messaging. Touching instead of video conferencing. I had to give in on a cell phone and a laptop because the world moves that way, but nothing beats using your all your senses whenever possible."

"Wow. You basically just read my mind. I feel the same way as you. The world has just gotten so impersonal and disconnected. People used to walk everywhere, now there are millions of cars. Books used to be good gifts to give, now if you give one, you're pretty much looked at like you're crazy.

And text message is kind of annoying. I understand e-mail, but when you're talking to someone and they're texting someone else...that drives me nuts." Andy says.

"Talking face-to-face is nice when the company is worthwhile, like right now." he says.

"Now, if you could live anywhere in the world...where would it be?" he asks.

"This is turning into a great evening," Jenny agreed.

"Let's see...that's hard. I'd need plenty of books, good music, great food, interesting company... I'd say a villa in Tuscany would do it. What about you? What is your dream place?"

"Tuscany is a great choice. I'd need some of the same things you mentioned, but also a place with a forest where I could just get out and do some heavy physical work at times. Or just run. Good drink and company are necessary so...

I'd say Ireland. Greece would be a close second, but I've always wanted to see Ireland. I've just haven't made it there yet." he says.

Jenny paused again to picture Andy doing heavy physical work. Shirtless.

"And you've been so close, too. When it's time to get your picture taken at Parlement, Dublin is practically a day trip. At least a three day weekend."

"I'm going to have to remember that! I love day trips, especially if they're anywhere in Europe." he says. He could probably find a nice stretch of land to build a cabin there.

"I like a lot of the music there as well. Celtic Folk music, Jazz, a little rock as well. How about you? Do you ever get out to any of the clubs in London?" he asks.

"London likes its clubs. There are a few I go to that play everything from big band to Celtic, to folk and rock. They manage to keep from being overrun by dance kids and sometimes you can hear yourself think." Dance clubs were always dicey for Jenny. Too many bodies in motion and her power activated without fail.

"Why is a guy who wants to live in a forest living in New York?"

"Well, for one thing, my mother lives here. She's really good about letting me do my own thing, but I know she'd have some trouble with it if I were gone. I mean, she's got her work to keep her busy, but practicing law can get boring." he says.

"I don't like loud clubs, either. I went to one recently and I left after a few minutes. Granted, the place was great, but all the pent-up energy in there was really messing with me." he tells Jenny.

That and Titan wanted out badly, that night. He couldn't afford that in a crowded place.

"This is pretty scary." She made a show of peering at him closely. "With so much in common, I could swear you're a ringer."

"A ringer? I...don't know the term." he says, hoping it's not bad. He also hopes she can't see inside his head at the moment. He met someone who could once and Titan hadn't been very nice about it.

"A ringer. A plant." She grinned to show she was mostly kidding. "Like you read my diary and you're saying all the right things."

Andy turns his face to the lapel of his shirt, and starts speaking.

"She's onto us. Mission failed. Hide the diary now!" he says, then starts laughing.

"Really, my luck is great tonight. I met someone nice who shares some of my interests. Most people don't get that lucky sometimes." he says.

"You're pretty awesome, Jenny. You probably get that a lot, but just in case you haven't heard it recently, there you go."

She laughed aloud, slapping a hand over her mouth to keep from being a nuisance to the other patrons.

"I don't get this lucky either. Honestly, it's hard enough to make friends when you have to be careful about some things. I'm glad I met you, Andy."

Oh my god. You made a chick laugh without fallin' on your ass, Andy. Maybe there's some hope for you yet.

Andy tries to ignore Titan's voice in his head.

"Are you reading my mind? I was just thinking the same thing, about having to be careful around people, sometimes." he says.

"I'll go out on a limb here. If you decide to get up and leave, I'll understand." She paused to take a sip of her now watered down iced tea. "I'm a mutant. Card carrying and everything. Crowds are not good for me."

"What do you know...I'm not big on crowds, either. But you being a mutant isn't a problem at all, Jenny. In fact, it really makes me feel a lot better." Andy says. He'll speak again before she can ask why.

"Because I'm different, too. I'm not a mutant, but...I guess you could say I'm in the neighborhood. This will sound weird, but..." he leans in and lowers his voice.

"I'm half-god. As in, Greek God." he says.

He really hopes she doesn't start laughing at him.

She really isn't going to start laughing at him. But she is going to stare for a few moments.

"Avengers have had gods on their roster. I read in the news that there is an entire team of gods on the Defenders out in California. Groupies and everything."

"Get ready to find out how small the world is. My dad is an Avenger, or he is at times. And that group out West...my brother is one of the gods on that team. I think he knows some of those groupies." Andy says.

Probably biblically, knowing Argo.

"My Dad is Hercules." he said. This is usually where conversations got weird for him, but telling Jenny didn't seem like the big leap he thought it would be.

Now she laughed, but in delight. She had almost been ready to believe Rob set this up, but her brother hadn't liked her joining Excalibur. Getting to know a....demi-god? Wow, he was a half-godling. Really not on the approved list.

"You win the prize for complicated family values. I guess it won't be a shock if when you visit London next, I invite you to stay with Excalibur?"

"Hey, isn't that the super-team out of London? You know those guys?" he asks, before he realizes what she's actually saying.

"Wait...are you actually on the team? That's really cool." Andy says. "I'd like to see you when I get out that way next, if you're up for it, so I'd hang out for a bit at least." he says.

"Do you like the team?"

"We haven't been together too long, but so far it's been great. After we broke the guys of wandering around the kitchen in their boxers early in the morning. I'd love to get together when you're out our way. Show you a couple of those clubs that aren't so crowded." She smiled. "And the bookstore. The team doesn't take up all my time. I'd be bored if I didn't do something outside of team life."

"Well then. Consider it a...meeting." Andy grins. "I just joined the Defenders myself, so I'm getting used to things in L.A. I was only back home getting all my things together before I move to L.A. permanently."

"Do the crowds here bother you, Jenny? We can leave if you want."
