A Meeting of the Minds
Rok sat in the labratory of a man much more intelligent than he. Kristoff Vernard. Rok Lu pinched his brow and sighed.

"I am sorry, Vernard. I am just worried about these... spells of dissassociation and hallucination I seem to be experiencing. Do you have any ideas what they might be? Or do you think my fears may have become manifest?"

Kristoff chuckles and gets some hard candy from the stash for Scotty and hands it to him before proceeding.

"Aside from these health concerns, how has the adjustment been?"

Sticking the candy in his mouth, and reveling in it's watermelon flavor, Rok sighs. "Well enough, I suppose. My new teammates seem nice enough, especially Victor and Miss Anya. And my room is all to myself and lead lined, like I asked. So there is that.

What's new with yourself? Any new papers?"

"I am glad to hear there is that much, at least. I recently finished writing up that little monograph on the effects of exposing nanotechnology to minute levels of many different combinations of radiation."

"Ah, I have been tinkering with a variation of that myself. I will have to read it and see what results you garnered." Rok winced a bit as the needle pierced his skin. "Hm... I do find it odd that I can take a punch to the face and a laser to the back easily, but a needle still causes more discomfort than either."

"I have gotten some fairly impressive results, particulary considering the level of advancement of the nanotechnology."
He's quick and efficient.
"No shame in it. You should see how nervous I get if I have to work with electrodes against my skin."

"I have a feeling that would be very entertaining to watch." Rok looks. "Are there any other samples you need, or is blood enough?" Rok asks, worried. "Father used to do spinal fluid tests on me as a child. That may explain my problem with needles."

Kristoff nods a little at that last analysis. "Blood will suffice. The methods I'm using need only that to demonstrate either radiation sickness illustrating an internal vulnerability akin to that of your 'aunt', or the other concern."

"I do hope it is simply an interference, a bad signal that makes me go wrong. We could build something to deal with that, couldn't we?"

"Indeed, it would be quite feasible."

Rok sighs in relief. "Thank you. I hope it is something that small. After all, even if it is... degeneration, they can make serums for that. So that would be feasible as well."

Rok then thinks and a look of abject terror hits his face.

"You do not think it could be diabetes, perhaps? Could you check my blood for that too?"

"There will be many options," Kristoff reassures.

"I can understand why that would worry you. You do not have the full range of symptoms that usually acompany diabetes. The more definitive tests for diabetes require having not eaten all day, but I can run a glycated hemoglobin test and if the results look troubling, wait to try the others or refer you to a physician."
