The black strapless dress fit just right and Sydney looked at her reflection in the full length mirror. The clock showed 5:45. Nervousness gripped Sydney as she turned to look at her side and back. The dress had been a spur of the moment purchase during a shopping trip and now Syd was glad she had made it. She had bought it for a date with Simon, but now it was being used for a date with Avery. How fast things changed.

Syd put on a little makeup just to shake things up. She didn't normally wear it, but this was a formal date after all. With Avery. If she was moving on from Simon, she was going to do it right. Was she moving on? Had Simon already moved on? She hadn't seen him and she wasn't going to go out of her way to see him either.

Syd wiped her sweaty palms off on the side of her dress and then chided herself for doing it. Oh man was she nervous. She couldn't remember the last time she was this nervous. It was just a date. Right?

Syd slipped her feet into a pair of black heels and took a deep breath. She could do this. One last glance in the mirror and another deep breath.

Avery, for his part, is also nervous, but he's more elated than anything. He'd expected a much different relationship with her to start. Now, though, he'd come to realize something in the last few months.

He wanted more. More than just being friends. Of course, he couldn't tell Sydney that. She'd think it was just because of Zoey, and he couldn't be sure that it wasn't. It wasn't fair to any of them.

He also couldn't help the way he felt.

He checked the collar of his Black Armani suit and fastened in his cufflinks. This was going to be fun. He just had to show Sydney a good time and maybe she'd agree to go out again.

"One thing at a time, Avery." he says, tying his tie.

	Sydney checked her dress and makeup one more time before going to find Sarah to leave instructions about Zoey. Avery would be ringing the doorbell any moment now and Syd need to make sure she told Sarah that Zoey needed to be in bed on time tonight. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

Avery walks up to the door with flowers, carnations, ready to hand them over to Sydney when she opens the door. He fights down the urge to run home and change, though he does hope Zoey opens the door. It's less difficult explaining to a small child why he's there than an adult.

Besides, Zoey might be happy about seeing him and Sydney together anyway.

He rings the bell and waits patiently for an answer.

	"Hey, Grace!" Avery says with a smile. "Please, please, call me Avery. I know people say this all the time, but when you call me Mr. Crittenden, I really do look around for my dad." he laughs. 	Syd turned a few shades of red. She didn't take compliments well and blushed way too easily. She wasn't used to getting complimented on her looks. "Flatterer," she accused. 	Syd blushed more. Her face was very red and felt hot. "She's good. She was in the kitchen making chocolate chip cookies with Sarah." A pause. "And George." Syd didn't particularly discourage the idea of an imaginary friend, but it did cause some concern. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

We lost one of our smaller firms down in Georgia with the whole incident down there." he says. "And I've been playing every night for a few hours. I'm having a great time with it.
