Dads and daughters
Anya felt like being home for the night. It wasn't that she didn't like Cambridge or her team, just once and awhile she needed to be home and be around her crazy family. Tonight was one of those nights. As soon as classes were over and she checked on the team, she suited up and rocketed home to New York.

She thought about going to see Steve, but tonight family was called for. She just hoped that Mom wasn't cranky and Dad was actually home. Otherwise it would be time with Brother Dork Two and Anya didn't feel like getting her ass kicked at video games all night.

It was around four-ish when she arrived at the penthouse and found Mom and Dad there. Thankfully she hadn't walked in on anything that would send her to see Doc Samson. Then again Anya had been certain to call ahead and ask Mom what they were doing for dinner tonight and weigh in with what she wanted. That was a clue that she was going to be there and adults needed to be dressed.

She spent some time catching up with Mom and explaining the SHIELD and SWORD mess and then went to find Dad. It had been awhile since she had some quality time with him and just sat down and talked. She missed him and missed talking to him on a regular basis.

Anya found him in the home office. She knocked lightly on the open door to get his attention.

Tony looks up from his work and smiles at his little girl. She's not so little now, but he still remembers the day he called Reed to ask for directions on how to change her, with diagrams.

He will never admit that's what he was doing, but that's what it was.

"Hi, sweetheart. Can you spare a hug for your old man?" he asks, rising from the desk to stretch and invite Anya for a hug.

	"Hi Daddy!" Anya said with a big smile. It was a little childish to still call him daddy, but she didn't care. "I always have hugs for you." She walked into the office and gave him a tight hug. Dad Hugs were the best. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

Tony hugs Anya, surreptitiously checking to see that she still has all ten of her fingers. He will trick her into showing him her toes in a moment. He lets the hug linger a moment, before letting go and standing back to look at her.

He sighs in appreciation. He and Tasha make beautiful children.

"So, to what do I owe the honor of this visit? Have you decided you want to move back home with your mother and I? She worries herself senseless about you, you know. I often have to remind her that you're nearly all grown up and can take care of yourself." he says.

That's mostly true at least. He may be taking those words out of context, but they are mostly true.

"Mom's worried. Right. Gotcha," Anya said with a smirk. She knew her father. The whole going away to college thing had been a trial for him. With her mother in and out like the wind, it had mostly been the two of them. They had raised each other and things had changed a lot in the past two years.

"I felt like being home for a bit and I wanted to make sure Mom hasn't shot you yet. She hasn't, right?"

"Anya, honey, you know that's just a myth, right? First, shooting me would rob your mother of a valuable resource: a person who rubs her feet on command.

Secondly, she doesn't want to have to explain to you that she shot me. Thirdly, she doesn't want to look for a new husband." Tony grins.

"Fourth and final, I make it a point to hide her guns in new places daily. One of these days, I will hide them from her completely. I'm thinking a Negative Zone pocket or something, but it's still being worked out." Tony says.

"How are things in Boston? Are your teammates working well with you?" he asks.

"Dad, she shot Logan. That alone is proof that she won't hesitate to shoot you. You know she won't shoot to kill, but she'll still shoot you." Anya grinned. "So calling Reed about the Negative Zone will be your excuse when you need a refresher on diaper changing?"

"Weird," she admitted. "We fought giant space bugs with SWORD. Had a teammate get bitten and turn into a bug. Broke out of SHIELD medical, which I'm sure you heard about, and had SWORD show up to try to take her in. Other than that, we're pretty dysfunctional."

"Uh huh. Sure 'Mom' was worried. So worried that 'she' left about five voicemails in about five minutes. There may have been a trace of panic in 'her' voice. Gotcha," she smirked. Though Anya understood the cause for worry. It had been a rough two years for the whole family and things were starting to calm down. Which of course meant something bad was about to happen.

"So how's my company doing?" Anya asked. She had been out of the loop on Stark Inc stuff due to not working and just didn't have time to go snooping around to get the information for herself.

Tony felt bad that he couldn't tell Anya a few of the new things he'd learned recently, but it was better to keep her out of it. She couldn't be connected to any of what would soon happen.

"I called on her behalf, and mine, yes. We just wanted to make sure you were all right." Tony says.

"Your company is just fine, right now. Lots of stuff going on and some big things ahead. Justin is really doing some great work in R&D. He's a good kid. I was hard on him when he got here, and I shouldn't have been." Tony says, mostly to himself.

"How is your armor working?" Tony asks.

"You worry too much," she said.

"That's good. I wish I could work and didn't have classes to make up." Anya had wanted to spend the summer working instead of taking classes. If she were going to learn to run the company there was no better way to do it than by working and actually doing stuff.

"It's working great. The zero-point-energy module integrated well with the systems and power output is above what was expected." She did tell him about the ZPEM, right?

"I'm sorry, honey. I thought I misheard you. Did you say Zero-Point Energy Module? How did you get your hands on one of those? I remember you telling me you were still working on it. You didn't say you'd built one!" Tony says, beaming at his daughter.

She's got her mother's looks and her father's brains; that makes him proud.

"Anya, the company is going to be here for you and the others when you're ready. In the meantime, I'd like you to focus on school and enjoying your life right now. You don't get these years back, and I don't want you to wake up some day and realize you've spent your whole life looking at tomorrow and letting today pass you by." Tony says.

He knows how that works, intimately.

Anya rolled her eyes. "Of course I built one. Justin and I worked on it together. We built a few prototypes. There's one in my suit and one in my car. I sent you the files awhile ago." Though knowing Dad they're sitting somewhere in his email still waiting to be looked at.

Anya would cut him some slack for not being on the ball. He was dealing with getting the company settled after taking it back from Evil Auntie and a pregnant wife. Those were two pretty big distractions. Though it did feel good to be ahead of the old man for a change.

"So you keep telling me. Dad, I'm not letting life pass me buy. I go to school, I have friends, I save the world on occasion, I do things with the family and I have an amazing boyfriend. I just miss being able to work on top of it all. I can't help it that you and Mom genetically cursed me to be a workaholic."

Anya had a lot on her plate, but she loved every second of it. If she wasn't doing ten things at once, she wasn't happy.

"Did you? Hm. I need to check that e-mail." Tony says. Between Maggie's garbage and Tasha, Tony has been running on all cylinders with minimum fuel some days. He notes again that Justin aided her in this and considers that he'll need to speak to the young man again about some other opportunities within the company.

"Hey, your mother and I just worry about how well you're socializing. You'd spend all day in a lab if no one came after you. I know, because I'm the guy you get it from." he grins.

"I just hope your little brother even has a tenth of your work ethic." Tony says.

"The suit is down in the lab if you want to take a look at it." He probably would. She knew her father.

"Why is everyone worried about me getting out of the lab? You, Mom, Toni, Steve. Toni and Steve drag me out on a regular basis." There may have been some pink in her cheeks when she mentioned Steve's name.

She smiled. "I try." She always tried her best because if there was one thing she never wanted to do it was to let her father down.

"I'll do that." Tony says, putting it at the top of his to-do list. He wanted to make sure Anya always had the best gear and that it was operating at maximum capacity at all times.

"We worry because we know and love you." Tony says. "And if that many people worry about you, Anya, you should see that as the sign it is." Tony says, nothing her expression when she mentions Steve Barton's name.

While Tony will never fully consider any boy good enough for his daughter, Steve Barton seems to make Anya feel good. He's not sure if distance or the thought of his little girl dating is the reason for the increasing number of gray hairs he's been finding on his head.

God forbid the day Anya comes to tell him she's pregnant; his heart might finally give out.

"How are things with you and Steve? How's he healing from the shooting?" Tony asks.

"You guys act like I never come out of the lab. I do. I need to eat on occasion. Just because I can lose a few days in there it's no reason to panic."

There was some more color on her cheeks.

"They're good, Dad. Really good." She smiled. "I know you don't want to hear this, but I really love him. I think he could be The One."

She had already asked Steve to marry her and he said yes, but nothing formal would be announced until he asked her when he was ready.

"He's fully recovered and back to being an Avenger."

"When four people are worried about you, Anya, there may be something to what they're saying." Tony says, teasing his daughter.

Tony's expression carefully neutral when she explains her feelings on Steve. It's too bad little Eddie isn't here to see this, because Tony would give a class in How To Explain To Your Daughter's Boyfriend That He'd Best Not Screw Up.

In other words, Steve needed The Talk.

"That's good to hear, sweetheart. Steve...is a good young man." Tony says, forcing the words out a little. He /does/ like Steve, but the idea of him being It for Anya...he still thinks she's too young to really know that.

He'll have to discuss it with Tasha. Possibly while working on something to keep him from blowing something up.

I know you don't want to see me get hurt or have my heart broken, I don't want those things to happen, but if they do then they do and I learn from them. Responsibility for my own actions. Or something like that. Just don't give Steve a hard time about this. I don't need you and Mom scaring him off." Anya smiled. "I love him and don't want to lose him."

"So have you and Mom decided on a name yet?"

Tony knows that what Anya's saying is true, but that doesn't make it any easier to accept. She's his little girl, and always will be, no matter how old she gets.

He smiles and nods. He smiles a little bigger as Anya shifts the topic to Eddie.

"Your mother really likes Nicholas as a name, and I'm not fond of it, but I think we're agreed on Edward, unless she's changed her mind in the last day. We may end up with Edward Nicholas Stark, but I don't know.

Please feel free to lobby your mother into dropping the Nicholas part, though. I'll bribe you with ice cream. Hell, I'll buy you an ice cream factory." Tony says.
