Dads and daughters
Anya felt like being home for the night. It wasn't that she didn't like Cambridge or her team, just once and awhile she needed to be home and be around her crazy family. Tonight was one of those nights. As soon as classes were over and she checked on the team, she suited up and rocketed home to New York.

She thought about going to see Steve, but tonight family was called for. She just hoped that Mom wasn't cranky and Dad was actually home. Otherwise it would be time with Brother Dork Two and Anya didn't feel like getting her ass kicked at video games all night.

It was around four-ish when she arrived at the penthouse and found Mom and Dad there. Thankfully she hadn't walked in on anything that would send her to see Doc Samson. Then again Anya had been certain to call ahead and ask Mom what they were doing for dinner tonight and weigh in with what she wanted. That was a clue that she was going to be there and adults needed to be dressed.

She spent some time catching up with Mom and explaining the SHIELD and SWORD mess and then went to find Dad. It had been awhile since she had some quality time with him and just sat down and talked. She missed him and missed talking to him on a regular basis.

Anya found him in the home office. She knocked lightly on the open door to get his attention.

	"I didn't say either of those things. I do, however, think you may committing yourself too young. I mean, you've got your whole life ahead of you to get married, have kids, all of that. 	"I'm telling you not to sell yourself short, Anya. That's all. I just want what's best for you at the end of the day." Tony says. And to think, he has to do this again in eighteen years, but with a boy who is likely going to listen to him as much as Tony listened to his father when he was young. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

"I know, Dad, but if I'm going to learn anything, I need to make my own mistakes. I know you don't want to see me get hurt or have my heart broken, I don't want those things to happen, but if they do then they do and I learn from them. Responsibility for my own actions. Or something like that. Just don't give Steve a hard time about this. I don't need you and Mom scaring him off." Anya smiled. "I love him and don't want to lose him."

Time for a topic change.

"So have you and Mom decided on a name yet?"

Tony knows that what Anya's saying is true, but that doesn't make it any easier to accept. She's his little girl, and always will be, no matter how old she gets.

He smiles and nods. He smiles a little bigger as Anya shifts the topic to Eddie.

"Your mother really likes Nicholas as a name, and I'm not fond of it, but I think we're agreed on Edward, unless she's changed her mind in the last day. We may end up with Edward Nicholas Stark, but I don't know.

Please feel free to lobby your mother into dropping the Nicholas part, though. I'll bribe you with ice cream. Hell, I'll buy you an ice cream factory." Tony says.

	"Hey now, Starks are not dorks." Tony chuckles. "And now that you say it that way...Edward Nicholas Stark does have a certain ring to it." Tony watches his daughter grin. Mom usually was right more times than either of them cared to admit. "We could call him Eddie or Nick. Though I'll probably stick to Dork. Have to keep up the tradition." "I can't wait to see what Eddie comes up with to torment you for calling him a dork. I'm sure it'll be worth the wait." Tony smiles.

"I'm very proud of you, Anya. I know I don't say it often, and that most people consider me the most unfeeling or uncaring person around, but you should know that I love and respect you as a person." Tony says.

"You're my firstborn, and that's not going to change." Tony says.

"Yeah yeah," Anya grumbled. "I can stay ahead of him."

Anya smiled and kissed his cheek. "I know, Dad. I always try to make you proud and I always know you love me. For what it's worth, you're the best dad in the universe."

"As far as you know," she smirked. Yes, she had to be a wiseass. She was a Stark. "As long as I still get the company. I may even be nice enough to share it with Eddie/Nick."

"Hey, I'm writing it into my will." Tony grins.

"Really, Anya, I was terrified of you when you were a baby. I've never had anyone depend on me the way you did. Now your little brother is going to need me, too. I get worried some days, but now...I'm ready for it. Especially with your mother around on this one." Tony says.

"How long are you staying for? I'm in the mood to watch embarrassing baby videos of you now." Tony says.

"I prepared you for this one," she said. "This one should be a walk in the park." Of course that means it won't be. This kid would probably be a little hellion.

"Well I may be a little biased, but I think you did a great job. I'm proud of you and I'm really glad you're my dad."

"Oh please not those! Anything but those!" she laughed. Dad loved to bring those out when he wanted to embarrass her or was feeling nostalgic. "Probably just for the night. Classes tomorrow and all."

Anya's words cause her father to beam proudly. He's made his share of mistakes in his life, and many of those are public knowledge, but he can say for certain that the best thing he's ever done is raise a beautiful, intelligent young woman like Anya.

And someday, he'll be able to add his son to that list as well.

"Come on. Indulge your old man for an hour? Then we can do anything you like for the rest of the time...while I spot-check your armor, of course." Tony offers.

Tony looks at Anya with an expression carved from shock.

"I am offended, Anya. What about your old man? How about all the times I've got to get up, get something, sit down, only to find out it's not quite right?" Tony laughs.

"Your mother and I are fine, though, I'm certain she'll shoot me once she learns what the Baby-Changing station's true purpose is." Tony says, steepling his fingers as he looks on in deep thought.

"Oh, and mua-ha-ha-ha." he adds dryly.

"That sounded like a good time to throw that in." he says, stifling a laugh.

Anya couldn't do anything but laugh at her father. Dad was...Dad. She had meant every word about her being glad he was her dad.

"I'm really glad the two of you are fine. I know I had my doubts when you got back together and got married, but I'm glad I was wrong. All I want is for the two of you to be happy."

She gave him a smile.

"You know Mom probably does that just to see how many times you'll get up and get her things."

"That makes two of us. I admit, I was a little worried when we got back together and decided to get married. We'd both tried so many times over the years to get to this place, but something always happened." Tony says.

Logan was the man Tony had mostly worried about, though Nick Fury featured in a few of his best nightmares as well, which was strange, because Matt Murdock had been in the running for a long time as well.

"But we're both happy. I know I am. I'm also proud of your mother. She's been a real trooper about this whole pregnancy. I was scared at first, even after having raised you." Tony says.

"And yes, she does. She knows me too well. It's okay, though. I'm getting practice for sleep deprivation in November. Soon, we'll both be getting up when someone calls us." Tony smiles.

"You both had to grow up first," Anya said. "Now that you have, well just enjoy it and be happy." If anyone deserved to be happy it was her parents.

Anya grinned. "You mean you're just happy she hasn't shot you yet. It's not everyday a seventy some year old woman has a baby."

"Hey you never know, we may have a member of this family who actually sleeps." She looked at him. "It could happen."

"Yes, I am glad she hasn't shot me. I'm sure she's wanted to a couple of times in recent months, but she hasn't. She's the hottest seventy-year old mom I ever met." Tony grins.

He simply looks at Anya when she suggests a sleeping Stark. He reaches out to place a hand on her forehead.

"You don't /look/ sick, but a sleeping Stark is a fever dream, honey. Your mom thinks Eddie might come out running, literally, with all the kicking he's been doing." Tony says.

He pauses for a moment, then looks his daughter in the eye.

"You're really okay with this, aren't you, sweetheart? I mean, you'd tell me if you weren't? I know things weren't normal for you, what with all the extra brothers and sisters that have shown up, and your mother being gone a lot." Tony says.

"But I'm gonna need your help with your brother most of all. You'll have to remind me when I'm being too much Dad and enough friend, and vice-versa. I'll also need you to help me remember when to calm down because he's driving me nuts.

Most of all, though, I'll need you remind me that you turned out well, so when I'm terrified that I'm turning out like my old man, you can tell me to relax." Tony says.

"It could happen," she said and rolled her eyes when he placed his hand on her forehead. "We're all weird in different ways."

Anya shrugged. "I'm okay with it. I don't think it's a good idea, but you and Mom seem to be happy and happy with having another child. Sure it's going to cause a lot of disruptions, but we'll adjust." She smiled. "Besides, I've always wanted to be a really cool big sister."

Anya frowned at the mention of Howard. "Dad, you'll never be anything like Grandpa Howard. No matter what happens you'll never be him. Mom would definitely shoot you." She smiled again. "I always have your back, Dad."

"Thank you for the vote of confidence." Tony says genuinely. He's not a man prone to self-doubt, but where his father is concerned, Tony is very much afraid of becoming Howard Stark.

"Eddie will think you hung the moon, as big sisters go. Just remember that your mother and I have a standing agreement that he doesn't get any armor until he's sixteen. So don't even let him see you in your armor before then or he'll be all over us for his own." Tony grins.

"You're going to make great CEO someday, Anya. I know our family's legacy is going to be in good hands with you." he says.

"I have no doubt you'll do just that, Anya." Tony says, hugging his daughter.

"Eddie will love you as much as your Mom and I do. And someday, you're going to have to take care of him when we're not here anymore." Tony says.

It's a fact of life. He's already fifty and he's not getting any younger. Another eighteen years of child-rearing and he'll be as old as Tasha is now...and he won't look nearly as good.
