Meeting of the Minds
Justin's phone got Misha's message not long after he sent it, but Justin had been busy seeing Tina off. Once she was headed off to work, Justin calls Misha back.

"Hey, I'm up to talk when you are. I'll be at the penthouse." Justin says, driving himself back there. Tina's apartment was too quiet without her.

He'll be waiting inside, working on one of his armor's gauntlets when Misha arrives.

Misha followed the voice into the library and went directly to the bar. It occurred to him, briefly, that he was drinking a lot lately, but it had so little effect on him that the habit wasn't interfering yet. As long as he stayed away from the vodka.

Beer from the bar fridge. Couldn't get safer than that. He disappeared briefly behind the bar to reach the small fridge, then straightened with a sigh to get an opener. "Hey. Everything going all right? I ask because I might be about to make it difficult on Stark's suggestion."

"Yeah, more or less. My girlfriend is doing work in a place that might kill her, or seriously injure her and won't quit...but otherwise, I'm good." Justin says.

Misha's comment earns him a look.

"Did Stark do something to piss you off?" Justin asks.

He got another beer and fell back into an easy chair. "You ever hear of Red Room or Weapon X?"

Justin grimaces, taking a seat across from Misha.

"Red Room, no, but Weapon X, I know about. In my world, those guys were the Government's go-to guys for terror and torture of mutants. The guy that ran the place was a real piece of work. Commander Howlett.

Osborn sent my mother there not long after she was captured. Never saw her again." Justin says.

"They on Stark's radar or yours?" Justin asks.

"I'm pretty sure a government is backing them here, but which one is a toss up. It could be this one or Canada like it was in the past. My dad has history with the Canadian version, and it's carried over to now and with me and my younger brother David. I have some files i've put together on what I know and the two members I've had contact with. One of them is Nicholas Creed. Does the name Creed ring a bell from your version of Weapon X?"

"Last fall. They used the oldest trick in the book, a redhead." He could joke about it now, barely. "Tessa Reece. She's a mutant. I'm not sure what she does exactly, but she can make you relive your nightmares. Creed's a mutant, too, and he has a real hate going on. I need to hunt them and Weapon X down. Before they make another grab for David and now Rose."

He held up his bottle to peer through it. "Weapon X appears to have climbed into bed with Red Room."

"Not much. The only Black Widow I ever knew back home was your mom, and she never talked about herself much." Justin says.

"So, you've got one group that likes to kidnap mutants and experiment on them, and another group that snatches children to brainwash them to be killers. Both of these groups need to be shut down and anyone working with them needs to be shown a nice deep hole in the dirt somewhere." Justin says.

"How do you want to go about this, Misha?" Justin asks.

Misha held up a hand. "It's not that easy. Red Room is extensive and there are complications, staring with my mother's former husband using it as a method of revenge against her and ending up with Dad killing him for snatching me. Except he's not dead and his daughter is in a position to hurt people I care about if I make a move. It's another long story but the upshot is, Stark and I agree Mom and Anya are strictly in the dark. No one gets told."

"Right now I want to go after Weapon X. It's a start. I need help finding them and upgrading my armor to do it alone if I have to."

"All right, so we run this operation close to the chest." Justin says. "Whoever this woman is that can hurt your people, she needs to be neutralized. But we can back-burner that until you're ready to move on it."

"And you're not doing this alone, Misha. Anya would want you to have back-up, so I'm going. Getting your armor up to snuff to do it won't be a problem, but I need to know the timetable you're looking at for getting started on this." Justin says.

"Weapon X is going to ground. I was with the Champions when we broke up their latest party." He relayed the raid on the base and the rescue of the children, going into more detail with Alexi's part and how his secret daughter saved him from the end he deserved.

"I appreciate the offer, but I need you to think it over. The armor and help tracking them is one thing, but going in is something else." His beer bottle got all his attention. "Red Room had me for about six weeks. They want to add me and Anya to their ranks. Just to see what would happen, I was chained to an operating table, and the surgeon cracked open my chest to see what would happen when they juiced me with electricity. All while I was completely conscious to feel it. That was only the beginning. They tried to program me to go back and kill my mother. This is what I'm going back in to shut down if I can."

"Look, I appreciate the warning, but if these people came after you and Anya, then they could know about Toni. She's already been snatched by a madman once this year, and I didn't get a chance to make those people pay for it. Not to mention, we're supposed to be working together." Justin says.

"If you don't want me in on this, say so, and I'll stick to support. But, think of it: you're a known quantity to these people. They've had you and they've got people who know you. They don't know me. If you want to make this a two man operation, then we're going to need a lot of legwork done before we get into this." Justin says.

"Otherwise, I'm here to help." he says, offering his hand.

Misha grinned, leaned forward and shook Justin's hand. "Thanks. I need all the help I can get but I needed you to know exactly what could happen to you for it. Stark's in on anything we need for armor and whatever we can use to track these bastards down, but we're working off the satellite and off Anya's radar. I even agreed to keep my dad in the dark for the time being.

"He downloaded the suit data from the fight with Weapon X and the confrontation with Shostakov and his daughter to his private server. He'll probably let you view it so you get an better idea of what we're dealing with. Hell, you'll probably see a lot more going on in it than I did just being there."

Misha will find plenty of food, much of it cooked, but uneaten. Tina feeds Justin often, and Mom makes excuses to come by and see how he's doing, usually with food of some kind in tow.

Justin returns with his data pad and shows Misha a schematic of his suit, retooled with even greater stealth capability and a few new weapons.

Much of it was unfamiliar to Misha, despite years of using Shi'ar and other advanced technology. He was willing to put faith in others who've been vetted by someone he trusted.

The weapons got his attentions. "Explain the weaponry to me?" he asked as he looked at the schematics.

"Well, there's laser cutting tool for those times you really need to get into something and don't have a key. I'm also thinking about reworking your gauntlets to give your repulsors more power." Justin says.

"The suit is also being adapted to up your reaction times and work with your ability. I'm also adding some tools to make obtaining information easier for you. You'll be able to hack into a network system and obtain data, and download where you like. If we're keeping this under the radar, we might want to consider setting up a relay of some kind that Anya, nor Tony, has no access to." Justin says.

"Just in case something comes up that even Tony might not take well." Justin clarifies.

Misha nodded. "I could use all of that. You'd need to set up something that he or Anya never see. Chances are there will be plenty he won't like. If we're going to do this, we won't get too many chances at it."

He looked at the designs thoughtfully for another a moment. "What would you think about working on this out at Xavier's? There's plenty of space in the sub areas and setting up a server there will keep it out of Stark's or Anya's notice. We can run my suit and anything you're building for yourself through the Danger Room programs and really give them a workout."

Justin nods. "Yeah, this is a one-shot, one-kill sort of thing and we need to make sure we hit them so hard they don't get up the first time."

He considers working on things out at Xavier's and decides he wants to learn a little bit more about how the place is in this dimension, as well as Tina's work place.

"That makes sense. If you trust the place to hold on to your information, it would make a idea base of operations to plan things out from. And I've really wanted to take a look at the Danger Room since I was a kid. There wasn't a chance to do it where I'm from, so I'm looking forward to it." Justin says.

"I trust that place and those people with my life."

With that settled, his stomach reminded him that he hadn't eaten since breakfast in Moscow. His head went right back into the fridge.

"I'll clear it with the prof and get you a room in the adult wing. The story is that we're working on an armor project. If you mention Red Room or Weapon X to anybody, Dad will hear it. He's supernatural that way."

"Well, then I won't mention either one to anyone. Will I be able to work in privacy? Won't do us any good to keep a secret if people get curious and want to know who the new guy is." Justin says.

"By the way, how long do you think you can keep this information from your Dad? If he thought he deep-sixed this guy...are there any other ways he could find out said guy isn't dead? And what do you want to do about this woman you said could hurt your friends?

Did she outright threaten them? If so, we might want to lean on her early and get that Red Room information to start figuring out how to deal with them." he says.

"They'll only get curious if you hide out from them, but we can make the work area off limits. Not everyone has access to all the sub levels."

Score a take out pan of lasagna. He put that into the microwave.

"Red Room is all about stealth. They put out the best spies in the world. Look at my mother. The daughter won't come out and threaten anyone. I expect right now she's desperately trying to get them to trust her again, and they will because Red Room puts out the best. They don't have any real experience with a Red Room product. I warned Lyta, but I can't order her. They'll go with the blood tie and it'll all be better until she does something that gets somebody killed. She can also teleport into different dimensions as well as from place to place. We'd only get one shot at her."

Ding! A hot pan of pasta, cheese and meat sauce was removed and served up.

"Red Room's lasted this long because they're that good and they have government backing. I want Shostakov, but I won't find him unless his daughter lets me. Weapon X is my best bet now. Take away that leg and his current plan is screwed up. I don't want Dad involved until I don't have a choice. He's...cranky. They need him at the mansion, not off chasing a phantom until we can get better information and keep Mom, Anya, and Toni, out of the line of fire instead of running into it."
