Checking on the home team
Commander Fontaine, Deputy Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., made the rounds when the special ops team came back in. After their last disastrous outing, she wanted to make sure they were still in one cohesive piece. The reports had been favorable.

She hadn't met the newest member yet, though she knew the contents of his file. She'd been the one to have it sent to Sammy for consideration. Her little gun nut, and Walker and Dugan, could always use someone with the ability to build a better gun.

Sammy's report had been terse but informative. The others' a little more informative. Landon was next on her list.

	The pain in his ribs makes it hard to sleep, so Tech spends his time sketching designs for new weapons. He's been working on his upgrades to the team's gear as well, after the HYDRA outing. His eye also hurts from the punches he'd taken, but the doctors say he'll live. The whole thing would be one hell of a story to tell Jake. (Reply to this)(Thread)

	Jason looks up from his designing and notes this visitor. He can't recall seeing her beforee, but there was something familiar about her that he couldn't yet place. "Hello, Commander. Yes, the mission took an unexpected turn, but my teammates rose to the occasion and won the day. I wish I could say I had a hand in that, but I cannot." he says glumly.

He wondered if Fury had decided that he would remain on the helicarrier from now on.

"Is there something you wish to discuss, Commander? I do not know what aid I can provide, but I will do so if I am able." he says.

"Ah, I just used a couple moves my brother taught me once. They kept me from getting beat up back home." Tech says.

She will see that Tech is working on a sniper rifle of sorts, very high-tech looking and sleek.

"The team is very good at giving me new things to consider. I have several items to complete for them once I am cleared to return to my lab. Agent Fury has been most generous and understanding of my eccentric and intellectual nature. May I ask if she is well?"

Valentina smiled at his literal interpretation of her words. Her smile was known to charm heads of state and difficult UN members as well as chill the the blood of any who crossed her bad side.

She sat down in the chair near Tech's bedside. "Mr. Landon, I have offered employment to men and women still in their prison cells. Some, like you, accept our offer to help someone else. Agent material comes in all forms and skills. Everyone around you is an agent and have undergone training along with their chosen specialty. It only requires a desire to be better prepared for this life."

Tech regarded the Commander's smile for a long moment, certain he'd seen her before. He also thought on her words and wondered why Jacob hadn't been given this offer.

"Well, Commander, I do not want to be a hindrance to the team, and I certainly felt as one during this mission." Tech says.

"I must ask about two things. First, pay and benefits. My grandmother has been in poor health and I need to be certain that she will be taken care of financially as she is elderly.

My second query is the right to my designs. I assume that anything I create for SHIELD will be owned by SHILED, as I will?"

If she was inclined to talk about his brother, she might explain that it some aren't ready to be given a chance to work off their sentences in S.H.I.E.L.D.'s employ. Jacob Landon was not off their radar, however, and his situation would be monitored.

"I'll have a payroll officer to help you complete the forms to assign part of your pay to your grandmother, if you like. It can be deposited into her account on a biweekly basis. That's a basic service S.H.I.E.L.D. offers for all their agents." She leveled a direct look at him. "The standard agreement for those inventions and upgrades created for S.H.I.E.L.D. by a S.H.I.E.L.D. employee applies. As long as you are an employee, you will have access to the resources needed for your work and the freedom to pursue it. Your patents will be registered in your name and licensed exclusively to S.H.I.E.L.D."

As he thought. He just needed to hear the Commander say as much. He could say no, but in truth, Tech has very little left to him outside the work he is now doing. If he could make it through their training, he could get out someday and open the electronics firm he always wanted. He could be the next Tony Stark or Reed Richards, even.

And someday, when Jake was free, he could make sure that he and Gran never had to worry about money ever again.

"Commander, I would like to pursue this opportunity with SHIELD. I'd also like to discuss possibly taking time to further my education for both inside and outside opportunities." he says.

Maybe even being a higher-ranking member of SHIELD wasn't out of the question someday.

"How would I start this process?"

She smiled again and rose from the chair. "First you heal and get a release from the doctor to begin training. The academy staff will set up a meeting to evaluate your needs and set up a schedule around your team and work commitments. Since your teammates can provide a good deal of the instruction you'll require, you won't need to attend the academy formally. There will be class work, but you'll be able to do that as form of home study.

When you're ready to talk about higher education, make an appointment with my office."
