Down Is Up, and Up Is Down
The Stark/Romanov Family Dinner. It was a study and exercise in insanity. They were usually loud, chaotic and entertaining to say the least. Natasha wasn't quite sure if she was up for this one or not. Her back was hurting and her ankles and feet were uncomfortably swollen. The good feeling of the second trimester was gone and the uncomfortable third was here. Though she wouldn't back out or tell Tony she didn't want to do it. They would have dinner and be entertained by the kids. Or so she hoped.

Picking a place was key, but this time she opted for Tony to get a private room at Delmonico's. Steak for the carnivores and private so that if things got loud they wouldn't embarrass themselves. And Natasha felt like dressing up a bit.

She had a new dress from Jan, a new pair of shoes and the earrings Tony gave her when she proposed to him.

When she and Tony were ready, he drove them to the restaurant. They even managed to beat the kids there.

"Good," she said with a big sigh of relief. She really couldn't handle Tony drinking again on top of everything else. "I'm here for you, Anthony," she said. "If you need to vent or rant, I will listen. We're a team in all of this. Let me help you if I can."

She reached out and took one of his hands and gave it a squeeze. "You can lean on me. I won't break." She gave him a light kiss. "And we'll get through dinner. We have five kids to torment for an hour or so."

"He's fine. It was just a reaction."

"Tasha, I feel so helpless right now. I have one daughter who's in pain and I can't wave my magic Dad wand and fix it for her. I've got another daughter that I have next to nothing in common with and I don't know how to relate to her." Tony says, shaking his head.

"You made it look effortless, the way you just took in James and Eliza on top of already having Misha and Anya. And they took to you like fish to water. I can't even look at Stephanie without seeing Clint and feeling like she's going to get along with him with no trouble at all." he sighs.

"I just feel like I'm failing my kids all over the map." Tony says.

She put a hand on his cheek. "It's not an easy situation in either case. But I do know this. Anya is a strong kid and she hasn't done anything to self-destruct so far. That's a good sign. Remember a year ago with the drinking and car accident? She's come a long way since then. Just be there for her when she needs you. That's better than waving the magic Dad wand and making it all disappear. Of course inventing something to scan other dimensions wouldn't hurt either."

"As for Stevie, you do have things in common. They're just different things from your clone." Yes, she was still sticking with the theory of the cloning project. "Cars would be a good place to start. You haven't spent much time tinkering with yours. I'm sure you can find a project for both of you to work on. Then maybe you'll learn what else she likes. The kid is lost and scared right now. Try to start by being a friend instead of a dad."

"And you are not failing your kids," she told him. "You are a great father, Anthony. You always have been and you always will be. As a parent you've done what I couldn't do. Anya wouldn't be the wonderful kid she is without you."

"As always, my wife is a genius. You're right. I've been trying in the wrong direction with both of my girls. Okay, Round One didn't go so well, but now we know what's going on. Round Two is going to go better." he says, kissing Tasha's forehead.

"And if Anya's a clone of anyone, it's you." he chuckles. "There is a small part of me that wants to ask who this guy from the tabloids is, though. I may need to pay him a fatherly visit and explain that my daughter is not up for Hollywood consumption." Tony says.

"Anthony, Anya is a clone of you," Natasha said. "Everyone knows that and it isn't hard to see."

"I'm sure Hollywood isn't trying to suck her in and she's too smart to let it. She knows what she wants to do with her life and I don't think anything is going to change that. Not me, not you, not Hollywood and not Steve."

She kissed him.

"Ready to go torment some kids? We could even gross them out with public displays of affection."

	"Oh, we haven't driven the kids out of the room by making out in ages." Tony grins, imagining Anya's face when it happens. Stephanie's, too, for that matter. "Yes, love. Let's go join our family." he says. (Reply to this)(Parent)
