Trouble in Genosha
Paris and Carmella had gotten to bed late, after some extra time and work and much interest and speculation on the whole Latverian Thing. But going to bed late normally never prevented them from getting up early.

This morning, it didn't happen. The sun was starting to climb high by the time Carmella groggily stirred, barely able to open her eyes.

She looks at him very intently, glad that he's keeping his voice down, There's an angry green flicker over those blue eyes for just a moment at the mention of Russia.

"I'm looking forward to a good and important conversation with the French, Finns, and Norweigans. We're hoping to avoid any hostilities with anyone, just as we've hoped all year. Russia will be given no basis for their complaints. With no basis, one hopes they won't have anyone wanting to listen if they decide to start complaining again."

"The French believe in appeasement, so count on them to speak a strong stance before they actually /take/ one. The others sound fair enough and willing to listen." Julian says.

"Now might be a good time to suggest reaching out to Wakanda and Atlantis, since they're also under siege. Has Genosha reached out to either previously?" Julian asks quietly.

Her face remains blank as he comments about France. She's done her best to do right by him; she hoped he understood she took his support completely to heart; she's not going to talk strategy on public international soil right now.

Especially not with those people over there getting closer. Way too close.
And so she only says, simply. "Mr. Howard, I have a boyfriend."

One who's already considered the value -- and precautions -- involved in reaching out to Wakanda and Atlantis right now, for that matter.

"Oh, that's my loss." Julian says smoothly, realizing she wouldn't bring such up unless there were prying ears about.

"Well, I hope you'll consider my invitation to visit the Club, anyway. Bring your boyfriend as well." Julian says, cringing inwardly at the term. "I'm sure you two can still have a good time."

He takes two steps back from Giovanna and bumps into someone who was obviously trying to look like he wasn't listening in on their conversation, even as he held a small camera in their direction The man drops his camera, which hits the floor...and is "accidentally" stepped upon by Julian. A second man walks up immediately and they both look at Julian with expressions of distaste.

"Excuse me, please. Oh, sorry about your camera. It looked expensive." Julian says aloud, even as he reaches out to with his magnetism to confirm what he thought he felt during the bump. Yes, a knife.

"No issue, /comrade/." the man says icily in Russian-accented English. He's dressed in a gray pinstripe suit with black hair and goatee, but he doesn't look like a delegate of any kind. The other man is bald and wears a black suit, but his eyes fix upon Julian with barely concealed menace.

In a rare use of his telepathy, Julian reaches out to Giovanna.

Knife on this man behind me. The second one also has a weapon.

Giovanna's fairly unused to hearing any telepathic voice besides her fathers, and the slightest subtle hints of feeling from Andrew on those very rare occasions when all her shields are down. So Julian's sudden contact is a surprise.

People getting past the U.N. Plaza checkpoints with knives was certainly unusual. And were they trying to seem threatening? Really? Right now? Oh, it would just make her day. Rage surged inside her, but she locked it down hard. She had to. She had a job to do.

They won't hurt me. Even if they're stupid enough to try.

Even with Giovanna's confidence, Julian makes his way to a security guard and nudges his mind /just/ enough to be suspicious of those two men near Giovanna.

Several minutes later, a U.N. Security Guard walks up the Russian men as they approach Giovanna and politely asks to speak to them.

Both men have no choice but to follow, lest they give the guard a reason to call in back-up.

Giovanna's grateful to Julian. Not for protecting her -- she could have easily teleported towards security, if she had to. But for removing temptation.

Knives? Really? Did she go bringing /her/ edged weapons into the UN grounds? No. She followed the rules. Not that she needed her knife to hurt somebody, but it was the principle of the thing.

Eventually, she does get her meeting, and follows Andrew's instructions to the letter.
