Dark Reflections
There was a flash of light and the Exiles appeared in a new world with a new problem to fix.

They were in a crowd just outside a courthouse in New York city. The area around the main entrance was filled with people and the media. New York's Finest tried to keep the mass of people back, but the crowd was persistent in getting in close. Two uniformed officers stood near the rear door. One officer opened the door and the other helped the prisoner out of the car.

Captain America exited the police cruiser and the two officers flanked him. Camera flashes went off in a dizzying pattern. Reporters tried to shove microphones in front of Captain America for a quote.

The officers started to lead him up the steps toward the main entrance.

Dane expected that Ares wouldn't be slowed by fighting blind, but he might as well have blinked for all the distraction it caused him. Dane still tries to keep him fighting, occupied so that the others can do what they need to do.

Besides, he's starting to think that Ares might not be as on-board with this team as he says.

"Does that order involve taking away people's choices? Making a spectacle of a man's imprisonment? I've learned somewhat about Captain America in my travels, Ares." Dane speaks, thrusting forward to keep Ares on the move.

"If /he/ is standing up against something or someone, that person or thing is in the wrong. If this 'ordereed society' you speak of is one where people are told what to believe and think and live in fear of those who should protect them, then that is wrong as well, Ares. Or do you no longer believe in free will and choice?" he asks.

"Free will is an illusion. Most mortals are like sheep, led by their churches and charismatic demagogues. Give them honeyed enough words and a pretty spectacle and they fall into line. This world needs strong leadership and order, or it destroys itself. Osborn and Stark are no more perfect than any other mortal, but at least they stepped in when all else was falling to chaos."

Ares responds. He's still fighting, mostly testing, parrying, sparring - Dane may get the idea that with all of Ares' power, he may have been able to simply overpower his foe a time or three, and isn't doing it.

He might be right about Ares not being the strongest link in this chain.

Black Knight disliked Ares due to the actions of the War God from his own world and this one doesn't seem much better, but he can at least see something of the conflict.

He's also well aware that Ares hasn't crushed him outright, which shows him that not all the gods are petty or cruel. But they, like humans, require leadership and fall into line with enough honeyed words or spectacles.

"I am truly sorry you feel that way." he says, parrying again before leaping away from Ares.
