When Out On the Lawn There Arose Such a Clatter
Christmas. Yule. Saturnalia. Dies Natalis Solis Invicti. Many cultures have celebrated and still celebrate a winter festival. There have been many names for it over the millennia. No matter the name it is a time to come together and celebrate with feasts and gifts with friends and loved ones.

Each culture has a legendary figure who would deliver gifts to children during this time. In Russia and some Slavic cultures he is known as Ded Moroz, Grandfather Frost, and comes not on Christmas but on New Year’s along with his granddaughter Snegurochka, or ‘”Snow Maiden”. In the United Kingdom and other parts of Europe he is known as Father Christmas. In the Netherlands and Belgium he is known as Saint Nicholas or “Sinterklaas” and in France he is known as Père Noël. In the United States we know him as Santa Claus.

No matter the name or who is delivering gifts, it is the season of peace, joy and togetherness. It is the season for thinking about loved ones, friends and those less fortunate. It is a time to witness the goodness and generosity the human race is capable of. It is a time for peace on Earth and goodwill toward man

The Avengers' Mansion was decorated and festive. Inside the Avengers celebrated Christmas Day. Outside there was a flash of light and six time and dimensionally displaced Avengers showed up.

"Aye," she said and stood next to him. "In our last world the Sentry didst have a tower on Stark Tower as well. When Sarah Rogers defeated him, it disappeared. It doth seem a common thing with the Sentry."

"It wilt be difficult, but I doth believe we wilt prevail. It ist possible to defeat Kang."

"Oh, distinctly possible. We've fought a dozen Kangs before, possibly this one. I've defeated the Sentry before. Even with Momone... err, your local counterpart helping, Kang has repelled every effort to take the place, and I can't come within 100 yards of it, or do anything about Kang when he decides to leave the fortress. That's been the double-edged sword so far - I can't defeat Kang, or even come close to him, the others can't beat the Void and Kang working together."

"The answer ist simple," she said. "We separate them. We draw Sentry out away from the fortress for thou to fight and the rest of us take on Kang."

It wasn't exactly /that/ simple, but it was an idea to start building on.

He nods thoughtfully. "I believe there were some thoughts along those lines. Previous to this moment, our efforts have failed. Kang has obviously done something to the Void, since he's been acting almost solely as Kang's bodyguard. However, if you guys have been foiling his plans as consistently as you say - your arrival may be the key to giving us something we can use to lure them out where we can do this. Without the Void present, your team plus ours should be more than sufficient to defeat Kang."

"We hath mostly been dealing with his technology that he hath given to others throughout time," she clarified. "We hath yet to face Kang directly." She smiled a little. "Something I hath been looking forward to."

"Miranda has the best readouts of his fortress and its capabilities, if you're going to try and assault it directly. A fair amount of Kang's technology seem to incorporate that odd green rock - though it doesn't seem to do anything more with it than his normal weapons and force fields, to most people. Still, he's heavily armed. Robots, disintegrators, force fields, the usual."

She shook her head. "A direct assault wilt not be wise," she said. "Only if it ist used for a diversion, which we hath used a few times in this adventure. Charlie, Ryan and Vernique hath been quite effective as a stealth team. They sneak in while the rest of us distract with frontal assaults."

Svalin's brow furled in thought. "This green rock doth concern me. Doth it affect thy mother or other Asgardians?" She paused for a moment. "Thou doth hath contact with Asgard, yes?"

He nods. "I am the Asgardian god of the sun, raised between both Earth and Asgard. My maces..." he pauses, drawing the twin weapons to show his sort-of-mother, "...were enchanted by Odin. As for the rock, no, it has been shown to have no extraordinary effect on Momo...you. As far as we can tell, its just me."

Her eyes immediately went to the maces, but she did not ask to hold them. Weapons were very personal items to Asgardians. They were impressive.

Even though he wasn't quite her son there was some small feeling of pride. He was young and had already earned his status as a full Asgardian god. She had yet to earn her spot as a full goddess and as far as she could tell she was quite a few years older than he was.

"Then it must be something that hath been passed down through thy father's line."

"I believe so, yes. There is a good deal still not entirely known about my father. Kang obviously is aware of it though." he agrees, as he returns the maces to his belt. Normally he would happily offer them over, but he's heard enough stories, and doesn't want to test her worthiness to hold the weapons just now.

Like most Asgardians, Svalin heavily believed in Fate and letting things develop as they may, but she was curious. "If I may ask, what canst thou tell me about thy father?"

"I'm not sure how much I should tell you. Timelines get tricky, though you already know some, or can guess. He's not from this dimension - I don't know if our timelines are the same, or similar enough to know how this might relate to you. She also had only a brief time with him - which is why there's only so much we actually know. On his world, he was of a great line of heroes... this symbol had great meaning to them, and most of the people on his world." he responds, gesturing to the stylized 'S' rune on his belt buckle.

Svalin looked at the buckle and something tickled in the back of her mind but she couldn't put a finger on it. "Vernique doth say that the future you experience whilst time traveling ist usually not the one you get. There ist a chance I may not be thy mother but only a different version."

"Mayhap and it ist probably best to think of it that way. It doth hurt the brain less. Not that having someone like thou for a son wouldst be a bad thing, quite the opposite, but it ist something that I ne'er think wilt be for me."

His teammates would probably find the reaction odd. He doesn't laugh often. Right now, though, he does just that.

"Fitting. You sound just like Momone."

"I art glad as well. It ist good to be with friendly faces and the Avengers for Yule if we cannot be home."

She looked at the fortress in the distance. It was a bit sobering, but the time to deal with that problem would come soon enough.

"Earlier thou mentioned mead. It ist time for mead and tales of thy adventures and tales of the Avengers adventures."
