Back in the saddle again
The date was a little awkward, what with both girls getting married soon, and him not being all that familiar with any of the people involved first hand before-hand, but it was still pleasant... and had some promise. Worst case scenario, if she's more truly married than she indicated, he can always call this a business meeting and take the write-off, since there is some business to discuss.

First things first, arranging the date. He makes reservations - in Canada, so getting some wine with dinner shouldn't be an issue, rents a limousine, makes arrangements for her flight, and sets up possible options for movies or dancing after dinner if she likes.

Its been way too long since he's been on a real date.

"Yes, hello. Is Vernique there?"

"Great. I'm a bit of a sucker for the classics, anyway."

"Can't say I'm too surprised. Any other hobbies or interests beyond the classics, fashion, business and aromatics?"

"Just marksmanship and impending motherhood, really. And you, besides tech, business, national security strategy, and sports?"

"I'm too easily distracted by hobbies. Frailty of a busy mind... robotics, computer science, Canadian and international law, French literature and cinema, classic and action movies, hockey... but really, when I get the chance, my real devotion is for extreme sports. Especially skiing and snowboarding."

"Ooohhh, tough question. The Godfather is right up there. MASH, Apocalypse Now, Star Wars, The Blues Brothers and Dr. Strangelove all might fight it for the top spot. And yours?"

"To Kill a Mockingbird, Roman Holiday..." a slow grin. "And maybe Clueless, just because."

"Clueless is actually fairly true to the original Austen, amusingly enough. And yes, Atticus Finch is a man to love forever."

She nods. "The West Coast's better for practicing one's Spanish, which admittedly I don't do a lot."

"Bilingual country for the most part... In a lot of places, everything is in both English and French. All of our laws, and anything done through the government needs to be available in both. We also have a big Chinese population... and the effort to translate all of the Romany tongue into a written language is being done here." An effort he seems fairly proud of. "You speak any other languages?"

She smiles. "It's apparently a lot like the Latverian dialect of Hungarian, but with less German influence and fewer words for 'please don't hurt me.'"
