Call to Duty (Odin, Halbjorn, Svalin)

Sigurdur Hogunson returned to the Golden City the moment the messenger found him. The All-Father demanded his presence immediately and Sigurdur's mind raced with the implications. He was not a wise man, and therefore did not know why the Lord of Asgard needed him. Questions arose in his mind during his ride to Odin's hall, but no answers presented themselves.

He hoped that he had not displeased his lord and master.

He arrived at the hall and was admitted without further word. No one spoke to him, but their glances asked the same question that stuck in Sigurdur's mind.

Why?

When he reached Odin's throne, Sigurdur stopped at a respectable distance and slammed his fist to his heart, taking a knee and kneeling before his liege.

"I, Sigurdur Hogunson, present myself to thee, my King. How may I serve Asgard this day?" he asks in greeting.

The Allfather was asking him to keep someone safe? Sigurdur was equal to the task and wondered how Hjordis, Skari and the others would take being assigned a bodyguard. After all, he couldn't imagine anyone else needing one. Those children were always into mischief.

He had to work not to smile at the looks upon their faces.

"Thou needs only tell me when and where, and my sword will be given to the defense of those in need, my liege." Sigurdur says, his gaze still directed at the floor.

Lady Svalin...in need of protection? The thought tried, and failed, to compute in Sigurdur's head several times. She was a fearsome warrior, and he'd heard tales that she'd had great adventures upon Midgard.

Was Odin testing him? He did not know, but he would follow his lord's command.

"Do I hath time to bid mine father and mother farewell? I do not wish to cause them worry or turmoil with a sudden departure. Both hath endured enough on account of the actions of mine brother." Sigurdur says quietly.

Hrothgar's betrayal had stung father deeply, though Hogun the Grim would never say so aloud. But Sigurdur knew. Since the first report of Hrothgar's treachery, Sigurdur had worked twice as hard to be a credit to his parents' names.

Svalin sat on rock on the shore and watched her brother and Vernique 'surfing' as they called it. Svalin had never seen it done before and she was curious about something that had held her brother's interest outside of women and mead.

It was a perfect day for just relaxing and having some fun. The sun was bright and warm and the water at her feet was cold. The breeze whipped at her hair and her dress. She had out grown her normal clothes and V had made sure she had maternity clothes, mostly dresses. The baby bump was more pronounced and getting larger each week.

Maybe after Solver was born she would try this surfing and see what it was about.

	Surfing had just sort of stuck - good exercise, even if it wasn't training, and the association with scantily clad women didn't hurt any. Still, Halbjorn tried to come and check in on his sister reasonably often between ventures out into the waves. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	She had never been one for dresses. They were harder to fight in for starters and she never cared for having her legs bare. "It ist fine," she said not wanting to offend her wife. She knew Vernique made a lot of effort picking out clothes. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

It didn't take him long to say his good-byes to his parents, though he wished he could have told them more. Still, he did not defy Lord Odin's directive.

When he was ready, he returned to the Allfather when he was ready and asked when and by what means he would reach Midgard and Lady Svalin.

Suddenly...he was standing before her.

Without preamble, Sigurdur pounds his fist to his chest and kneels before Svalin.

"Lady Svalin, I am Sigurdur Hogunson, son of Hogun the Grim and Idunn. I art sworn to your protection by the command of Odin Allfather and I wilt see you safe by any and all means." Sigurdur says immediately.

	Halbjorn notices the new arrival, quirking a brow. Then he just shrugs. "Welcome, Hogunsson. Well met." Nothing was too good for his sister, after all - and he'd be the first to acknowledge he wasn't the best personal guard. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

Vernique stares at the sudden arrival. She reminds herself that she made a decision; a mature, grownup decision to ensure fewer problems for Svalin and their baby.
She absolutely cannot say 'Goddamn Hello!'

Instead she just smiles cordially and says. "Hi. Vernique Denning. You might've been at our wedding, but it was so crowded, even memorable people slipped through the cracks."

	Surprised by the sudden arrival Svalin grabbed Vigfrior from next to her and jumped to her feet. The tip of her sword was at the man's throat. Then she recognized the face and the voice. She smiled. Sigurdur noted that Svalin was still quick with her blade, though something seemed...off. He had yet to put the entire picture together.

"Well met, good ladies. Well met, Lord Halbjorn. Forgive my sudden appearance. I didst not know that Lord Odin wouldst send me directly to your side. I expected I would need to travel." Sigurdur says.

"But it ist as you say, Lady Svalin. I art here to protect thee and thy wife, by extension. However, I know little of Midgard ways and customs and I wilt need schooling so as not to offend.

Lord Odin said I wouldst further understand mine purpose here upon arrival." Sigurdur says.
