Call to Duty (Odin, Halbjorn, Svalin)

Sigurdur Hogunson returned to the Golden City the moment the messenger found him. The All-Father demanded his presence immediately and Sigurdur's mind raced with the implications. He was not a wise man, and therefore did not know why the Lord of Asgard needed him. Questions arose in his mind during his ride to Odin's hall, but no answers presented themselves.

He hoped that he had not displeased his lord and master.

He arrived at the hall and was admitted without further word. No one spoke to him, but their glances asked the same question that stuck in Sigurdur's mind.

Why?

When he reached Odin's throne, Sigurdur stopped at a respectable distance and slammed his fist to his heart, taking a knee and kneeling before his liege.

"I, Sigurdur Hogunson, present myself to thee, my King. How may I serve Asgard this day?" he asks in greeting.

It didn't take him long to say his good-byes to his parents, though he wished he could have told them more. Still, he did not defy Lord Odin's directive.

When he was ready, he returned to the Allfather when he was ready and asked when and by what means he would reach Midgard and Lady Svalin.

Suddenly...he was standing before her.

Without preamble, Sigurdur pounds his fist to his chest and kneels before Svalin.

"Lady Svalin, I am Sigurdur Hogunson, son of Hogun the Grim and Idunn. I art sworn to your protection by the command of Odin Allfather and I wilt see you safe by any and all means." Sigurdur says immediately.

	Halbjorn notices the new arrival, quirking a brow. Then he just shrugs. "Welcome, Hogunsson. Well met." Nothing was too good for his sister, after all - and he'd be the first to acknowledge he wasn't the best personal guard. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

Vernique stares at the sudden arrival. She reminds herself that she made a decision; a mature, grownup decision to ensure fewer problems for Svalin and their baby.
She absolutely cannot say 'Goddamn Hello!'

Instead she just smiles cordially and says. "Hi. Vernique Denning. You might've been at our wedding, but it was so crowded, even memorable people slipped through the cracks."

	Surprised by the sudden arrival Svalin grabbed Vigfrior from next to her and jumped to her feet. The tip of her sword was at the man's throat. Then she recognized the face and the voice. She smiled. Sigurdur noted that Svalin was still quick with her blade, though something seemed...off. He had yet to put the entire picture together.

"Well met, good ladies. Well met, Lord Halbjorn. Forgive my sudden appearance. I didst not know that Lord Odin wouldst send me directly to your side. I expected I would need to travel." Sigurdur says.

"But it ist as you say, Lady Svalin. I art here to protect thee and thy wife, by extension. However, I know little of Midgard ways and customs and I wilt need schooling so as not to offend.

Lord Odin said I wouldst further understand mine purpose here upon arrival." Sigurdur says.

Sigurdur is still taking in the sights of Midgard, so he is not /fully/ paying attention to the conversation going on behind him, but he /thinks/ Lady Svalin and Lady Vernique are talking about him.

He's not used to such things, so he decides to interject with something he is familiar with.

"I wilt need to establish a route for mine patrols, Lady Svalin. I must also know how thou wishes to spend thy days, so that I am available when thou art ready for training and other activities." Sigurdur says.

	Vernique's words cause Sigurdur to stop in his tracks. He turns, slowly to face the women. "Lady Vernique, Lady Svalin, didst I correctly? Art thou truly...with child?" Sigurdur asks cautiously, hoping he doesn't offend her. However, Lord Odin's secrecy and urgency now came into sharper focus in Sigurdur's mind. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

Sigurdur was not sure what kind of magicks Lady Vernique possessed, but her ability to shrink and grow hinted at sorcery. He would have to find out how it worked, as it could be a formidable weapon.

He follows both women, noting that his task now encompassed three lives instead of one.

"I hath no doubt that this child wilt be special." Sigurdur says, eager to enjoy a bit of Midgard fare.

"When wilt the babe join us, Lady Svalin?" he asks.

Svalin set about getting various foods from around the kitchen. Breads, cheeses, fruits, two apple pies and two blueberry pies Sarah and Malinda had made earlier in the day. She got glasses and two bottles of mead for their guest. She got water for herself.

"Aye. What I art about to tell thee ist only known to a few and to none outside these walls save for the All-Father."

She placed the food on the table along with the mead. She busied herself to distract herself from the emotions tied to what she was about to say.

"On our wedding day, Lord Odin named me Goddess of Hope and he also giveth us a prophecy regarding our son. He wilt be a shining light to Asgard and Migard or he wilt be the doom of both if the enemies of Asgard doth get a hold of him."
