Something New...
The moment Melissa saw the grenade launcher, she knew she had to get it for Kelly. Her lady love enjoyed guns of all types, but she loved things that exploded even more. There was always a childlike (some would mistake it for /manic/) glee in Kelly's eyes whenever they went to the Wild Pack armory to check out weapons. Kelly's eyes had been undressing a rocket launcher, too, so Mel got in contact with a few old friends and found one much like the apple of Kelly's eye.

Melissa can't think of too many other ways to say I love you that don't involve hot sex, jumper cables and bloodletting, or some comb of the three, so she sits and waits for her baby to wake up, both cases on the floor to either side of the chair she's sitting in within their bedroom at SSI.

Right now, though, she just watches Kelly sleep a bit, just because its the most still that she ever sees her on a daily basis.

The soldiers act with lethal efficiency, shooting down the unprepared defenders one after the other, and adjust to keep up the pressure once their enemies begin to mount a sluggish defense.

One solider in particular sees someone on the far wall, and thinks this might be an enemy scout, so he follows her, hoping to get a lead on the man in charge here.

Kelly assesses the situation as she goes, mind racing amidst the chaos. She's not sure if the man in the turban is the guy, or a decoy - local insurgents have been known to use them. Best to be sure, and not just blow these guys up and call it a day.

She drops to a crouch, reloading the rocket launcher as quicly as she can, waiting to fire until one of the bodyguards opens the doors to the SUV - figuring its armored, she tries to fire the rocket in through the door instead of at the body, to make sure there's no hope of using it as an escape, and hopefully getting rid of at least one of the bodyguards without eliminating the target until she can ascertain if he's the local boss or a decoy.

Kelly's shot is a direct hit and all three men are thrown from the exploding vehicle, with the turbaned man thrown back against the wall of the compound. The bodyguards die instantly from the force of the impact, but the man in the turban lies on the ground stunned and trying to get the world to make sense again.

He begins trying to climb unsteadily to his feet.

The rest of the soldiers are gaining ground against the compound's defenders, as they are better armed, better trained and more disciplined. Whoever owns this place paid a fortune for these guys to be ready, but they weren't expecting an attack like this.

Meanwhile, the lone soldier sees and hears the rocket explosion from behind the house and runs in that direction as quickly as he can, still looking for his quarry.

He thinks he sees someone on the wall and aims his rifle, hoping to get a shot in before this person can fire again. His mission is to take this guy alive, and he's not going to let some group of mercs screw this up for his team.

Melissa has to take cover when the compound's defenders notice her, doing her best to avoid the bullets coming her way. She returns fire where she can, aiding the invaders against their enemies, or blinding the leader of the resistance so that he can't effectively give orders.

The explosion in the rear of the compound tells her that Kelly is still in the game, since no one else seems to be using rockets or grenades, so Melissa's heart slows a small bit, but not much.

She pops up again, shooting down another man before starting to move again in Kelly's general direction.

Kelly slings the rocket launcher over her shoulder, and leaps into the air, executing two flips and a twist on her way to the ground, rolling to lessen the impact, coming up as near the turbaned man as she can.
She draws her beloved Eagle in mid-air, steadying the rocket launcher with the other arm as she comes up from the roll, pointing the hand cannon at the turbaned man, either not having noticed, or not caring someone has a rifle pointed her way.

"Don't move or Allah will need a spatula to collect you." she shouts at the downed man in Arabic. Truth be told, her Arabic is terrible. She's just practiced that phrase.

"Your name, now!" she insists loudly, looking for any sign of hesitation while she badgers him. She's going to be damned sure this isn't a decoy.

The turbaned man looks at Kelly with a great deal of confusion as he can barely hear a word she's saying. The sound of the blast at close range has affected his hearing and he's not good with lip-reading.

"Who are you, American Devil?" he shouts above the din of the fighting.

He also attempts, slowly but surely, to draw a knife and jab it into Kelly's guts.

Soon enough, the gunfire dies down at the front of the compound as the strike force seems to have mopped up the last of the resistance. The soldiers round up the compound's defenders and begin assessing damage.

Meanwhile, the soldier following Kelly loses chance to take the shot due to the fluidity of her movements. He follows her, however, and comes upon Crosshairs interrogating the target, Ali Daryaei.

"Freeze!" he says, leveling his gun at the back of Kelly's head.

"Put the gun down and back away from him." the soldier says.

Melissa is several yards away when she hears someone being told to freeze in the same manner the cops do. She comes around the corner and finds one of the black-suited soldiers holding a gun on Kelly and their target.

She pulls her own guns and draws a bead on the back of his head.

"It would be a /real/ bad idea to shoot her, buddy. How about you drop /your/ gun and maybe I won't spray you all over the side of this house?" Melissa says in her "demon" voice.

Kelly either doesn't see the knife coming, or else she lets him. Her eyes open wide a moment, and when she opens her mouth, a little blood pours over her lower lip, looking like he aimed the stab perfectly.

Then she giggles, pointing her desert eagle under Ali's jaw.

"Not American." she responds, a little slower so he can read her lips. "Nice knife, my girlfriend will love it. Field tested and everything." she adds, before looking back, keeping her gun where it is.

"Can't do that, this raid was a present. I can't go disappointing my girl. But I bet we can make a deal. You want him alive, right?"

The young soldier takes a deep breath, knowing that he's in a very bad spot just now. He could probably take down this woman with no trouble, but he'd hit Daryaei. If Daryaei died, it would turn this whole thing into a fiasco and the Pentagon would have a field day with it.

The United States didn't negotiate with terrorists and he didn't have any bargaining power, but he had to do something before this woman killed their link to the leader of the terrorist organization his team is hunting.

The sound of the guns behind him doesn't faze him much, but he has to play this correctly or at least two people were going to die in the next few minutes.

He clicks his rifle's safety to 'on' and lowers it slightly.

"I'm not authorized to bargain with terrorists. Who are you and what do you want?" he asks, stalling for time until his people can show up.

Kelly keeps the gun cocked. Anyone fires at her, even with a killshot, a twitch of her finger would set the gun off.
"Not a terrorist. Bounty hunter. I'm Symkarian - and this man has a substantial bounty on his head. His people would pay a mint to get him back, rival powers would pay through the nose for him. I'm sure the U.S. and some European powers would like to be the ones who get to claim to bring him to justice."

She pauses, glancing about, her hand remaining firm where it is. "Alternately, I could save everyone the trouble and pull the trigger. This place could use a new paint job. Very bland. So if you're not authorized, get me your C.O. - bet he can get authorization to negotiate with private contractors."

This isn't going well. Not at all. He has to keep these people talking and neutralize at least one of the threats before him. He would love just tell her to blow Daryaei's brains out and walk away, but he can't do that.

"All right, give me a second and I'll see if I can get him over the comm channel." the soldier says.

He starts reaching down to his belt to tap his comm button, which is right near his Glock 9mm.

He remembers this just as the feels a gun barrel press against the back of his head.

"Careful, Soldier Boy. Touch that gun even by a hair and you'll be the one giving this place a new paint job." Hood says, relieving the man of his weapon.

"What's your name, big boy? I like to know people's names in case I have to drop them." Melissa says.

"Sergeant Matthew Talbot, United States Army, 1st Infantry Division." he says.

"Tsk, you think I've never done hostage negotiations before? Call your C.O., and have him look up Symkaria. Turning over wanted war criminals is practically our economy. Trust me, Sgt. Talbot, do this the right way, call your commanding officer and be professional about this, you'll get your prisoner and probably a medal. Do this wrong, and you'll be blamed for the death of a terrorist you could just as easily have taken home for a show trial. Nice and slow, call in someone with the authority to negotiate."

Sgt. Talbot doesn't like this but he makes the call, hoping his C.O. will give him the authority to handle these two people.

It takes a minute for him to confirm his identity over the comm, and then looks to the woman before him.

"Colonel David Weston, United States Army, speaking. Identify yourself and your relation to Symkaria before we go further, as you're interfering in a military operation." Weston says briskly.

Kelly grins. Perfect. "No sir, Colonel Weston, I am conducting a military operation. Symkaria has a long and storied history of hunting war criminals. Seeing as there's not so many Nazis left, we're branching out. My name is Kelly Wilson, I am a soldier of fortune and Symkarian operative. I have no criminal record and extensive mil-spec hardware, and I'm willing to use it. I take responsibility for blowing up the barracks and herding most of the enemy towards your men... taking out your target's bodyguards... and between them, probably saving half a dozen or more of your mens' lives. No charge. On the other hand, your quarry is also wanted in numerous nations - some of them dead or alive. I would prefer alive, because it pays more, but if your men leave me no choice, I will take the former option and save the trouble of carting him out of here. Because him having a trial looks better for us, saves me a bullet, and you're here and can take custody, I am willing to give you a very steep discount on our normal rates - so, Colonel, are we negotiating in good faith? Don't fuck with me, and I promise you, when we're done, if the price is right, you will walk out of here with your target whole and healthy, and ready to face a military tribunal... ball is in your court, Colonel."

Talbot can't believe what he's hearing. This woman is /charging/ the United States for the capture of a terrorist? There was no way, no way possible, that Colonel Weston would let this go down. Their people would move in and apprehend these two. They had to.

"Sir, you orders?" Talbot asks, ready to drop these two on command.

There's radio silence for what seems like an eternity...and then Colonel Weston speaks.

"We need proof of life. Give that to us and we can deal." Colonel Weston says.

Talbot feels like he's just been gut-punched.

Kelly boots the terrorist a bit to make him move, easing off on the gun just a little, but keeping it near his jaw.

"There - your man, Sgt. Talbot, can confirm your target is alive, just scared enough to piss himself. As long as you're straight with me, Colonel, your target will remain that way. Tell him, Sergeant."

Jake does not like this one bit, but he's going back the play his C.O. is calling, because that is what a good soldier does.

"Sergeant Matthew Jacob Talbot of the First Infantry Division, confirming the identity and life of one Ali Daryaei, lieutenant of the Iranian Liberation Movement." Talbot says.

Colonel Weston speaks next.

"I'm authorized to deal with you as of this moment, Miss Wilson. In order to fulfill your end of the deal, you will need to turn over Mr. Daryaei into Sergeant Talbot's custody and refrain from discussing any Symkarian involvement in this mission.

What is your fee for doing so?"

"Don't worry, discretion comes with the job. No one will hear a word about this. Here are my conditions... which include a considerable markdown for convenience and the Sergeant's good behavior. Whatever we agree on, I'm going to take in good faith... because if this goes south, things will get messy, here and in relations between our countries, I promise you. Besides... you're getting a good deal here. You'll want to keep this one.

One, I want a FIM-92 Stinger. I know you're not supposed to deal in military hardware, but those things fall into bad hands all the time and we both know it. One should quietly fall into good hands for once." she starts, remembering Melissa's specific desire for one of those things.

"Two, I want Johnathan King, son of Elizabeth and Dale King, nephew of Eliza Robbins, cousin of Parker Robbins... which should be good enough to find the right John King... placed on the federal 'no fly' list, and noted as a person of interest. He was previously held in FBI custody before he made a deal and named names to get free... he has since violated the terms of his agreement and conducted acts of terrorism within America - which makes him federal and military business. He is wanted in Symkaria and will receive a trial if he is caught. But I don't want the bastard allowed to fly anywhere, or to cross any international borders. Current relations allow for exchange of wanted criminals between our nations.

Three, if this all goes down well and clean, I want Sgt. Talbot given the media and military credit for apprehending Ali Daryaei - the credit doesn't go higher up. He's been a good boy so far and played by the rules. If anyone gets decorated for this, it should be him and his squad for doing the grunt work.

Four, top military brass names can open doors. I want reservations for two at Zaytinaya in Washington D.C. tomorrow night, under my name. Good seats too - and dinner on the military's tab. We'll handle getting to Washington ourselves.

Five... I'm going to give you a phone number. After today, that number and that phone will never be usable again. You are going to send me a message at that number with the following information - what time our reservations at Zaytinaya are for, and the names and bounties of all people currently on the United States' most wanted list, as given to your private contractors - no names, no payment information left out. If Blackwater got the info, I get it too.

Six, and final, I trust you will agree that these terms are a hell of a lot less expensive than you were probably expecting, no matter how much of a bill we run up at Zaytinaya... as soon as I get your message and my SAM missile launcher, I will release the prisoner into Sgt. Talbot's sole custody, at which point neither he, nor you, ever saw or spoke with us, and we will leave the area unmolested.

Do we have a deal?"

Under the hood, Melissa's crimson eyes nearly fall out of her head. The entirety of what Kelly had just asked for would only be possible in her wildest dreams, but Melissa's dreams are pretty scary as it is, so she knows she's not sleeping.

The missile launcher she's always wanted, plus enough possible jobs to make them disgustingly rich in the meantime? Wow, and to think they were really going to do this all for free before the military showed up!

"Sergeant Talbot, my girl is about to make your freaking career. You are one lucky bastard if your people agree to this." she whispers.

Talbot cannot believe what he's hearing. The very idea that the United States would allow someone to dictate terms to them, let alone acquiesce to said terms is unthinkable to him. Granted, the idea of being the one to bring this guy to justice would make him and his team national heroes.

Still, it would take the POTUS to agree to a deal like this and that couldn't be done in a matter of minutes--

"Miss Wilson, the President of the United States himself has agreed to your terms as spoken. Provide the contact information you want the lists sent to to Sergeant Talbot after turning over the target and you'll have it shortly.

The no-fly list confirmation for Johnathan King is out as of this moment. If he's noted as trying to fly anywhere within he continental United States, he'll be detained immediately and you'll be informed.

The ordnance you're seeking will be handed over to you by Sergeant Talbot /after/ he's turned the target over to the members of his unit who will also confirm his identity and transmit to us." Colonel Weston says.
